Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

What order are the plugins when you guys do the NV Uncut merge?

Nevermind. I just needed to reinstall all the NV Uncut mods. There was obviously some corruption.

So I wasn't going completely insane? Good to know... :P

I guess that means all the NVU mods are good to merge then? I did do some side to side comparisons with the merged mod and the original mod and found some inconsistencies, I'll take down some references when I'm back in front of the computer and able to do so, just to ensure everything is good to go for the merge.

Edit: Just to clarify, as I realised that was clear as mud... I had both NVU6 only and the merged mods open in xEdit and specifically looking for records involving Betsy, obviously there are going to be other things in the merged mod that aren't in the NVU 6.

I'll need to look it over again in FNVEdit, since I believe the there is some stuff that needs to be done for conflicts. Overall it should be good to go. There was some overlap between NVU6 and rotface to riches that I noticed as well.

Something weird just occurred to me. Update.bsa for FNV has no corresponding plugin like Skyrim. It is also not loaded in the INIs. So besides MO users that tick the bsa in the archive tab, who has it loaded in their game?

I was going to say maybe it's one of the .NAM files, but there isn't one for update.

Bethesda hard-coded it to be used in the executable itself. They can be quite lazy at fixing their own bugs sometimes.

Edit: Sorry, I thought you meant Skyrim. Not sure about FNV.

Would it be possible to get a full mod list and order with load order as well at some point? I'm kind of at my wits end with the freezing. Or is it just that there are areas in the game that are more prone to that?

The game runs great but I'm getting random freezing trying to clear the geckos with Sunny Smiles in the tutorial quest.

Hi,

Sorry to change the subject but I don't know if my issue deserves a thread of its own since I don't know for sure if any STEP manipulation is the cause.
When I'm playing in Freeside, I get freezes leading to CTD and infinite loading screens. It happens from time to time, generally 15 minutes to 1 hour after I start playing in this area. I followed the Fear and Loathing guide quite strictly and if CTD already happened in other areas, it's nothing comparable (3 or 4 in 20-30 hours).

I didn't compress the textures due to a lack of space on my SSD, but I play on a GeForce 780 3Go at a 2560*1440 resolution so generally I don't get lags.

I searched different forums but all I found are tweaks already applied with F&L, or suspicious manipulations of the processor threads management.

What could be the cause of these crashes, and what would be the solution ?

The full mod list is the one that you follow for the guide, all the mods used are listed on the main wiki page. As for load order, the guide says to run LOOT at the end of the installation, so after running LOOT, the only thing that changes from there is the bashed patch which goes at the end of your load order. If you follow all the steps in the installation guide, then you 'shouldn't' have issues, unless your hardware isn't up to standard.

I may try to do a clean reinstall of the guide again I guess. I messed up the first time but I thought I was fine the second time. I followed, or at least thought I followed, the guide to a T and still have these freezes at the beginning. It just sucks that I there is no way to tell if the freezing is an outlier or a sign of a messed up installation.

If you mean is there now no need to extract all the BSAs? then, yes, all is good. BSAs can be loaded with no issue.

Shouldn't the "BSAs and Mod Organizer" section be removed from the guide or heavily modified?  Most of the information in there about BSA limits and BSAs always being overwritten by loose files is outdated.  Some of the tips about BSA extraction could be useful still.

You know sometimes the game is just infuriating for no reason. Sometimes you can just go do something else for a while then come back it works. I don't know why the game acts that way, but it does. Maybe go do a different quest or two and come back to Sunny.

Any threaded tweaks are snake oil being passed off by people that don't understand what those setting actually do. You don't want those processes to take up every core or the other cores won't be able use them. Games need to process many things at once, so you have to divide up the work load. That is why everything is limited to only 1 or 2 cores. Also, half those settings aren't even read by the game engine, so they do absolutely nothing.

Anyways, back to your freezing issue. Do you use ENB/ENBoost? The one about it is that you gain better protection against memory related issues (ILS, memory crashes/freezes) at the expense of performance. Just ENBoost can cost 5-6 FPS on great systems. Other than that, remember Freeside and the Strip are terribly optimized parts of the game and modding them can add to that. You might try turning down some stuff like AA to see if you get a performance boost and ultimately don't crash in that area. It may just be too much going on for that part of the game.

Yeah, it probably should, but I'm being lazy about it.

Update.bsa is loaded by Update.esm. Any plugin that matches the name of a bsa exactly will get loaded.

Yeah... I started trying to head off in other directions but it ends up freezing/hanging after a few minutes of wandering around.  NVAC logs give me no information really so I don't have much to go off of.
