ACCEPTED Fix Note Icon for SkyUI (by 0xC0000005)
Mousetick replied to DreamerSteamer's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
As noted in the OP, it's a bit of 'hack' as it depends on the item name containing the word 'note', but it works well most of the time. I've been using it and I like it. -
Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking maybe foregoing Aspens Ablaze when using this. The aspen screenshots from Happy Little Trees don't compare favorably with Aspens Ablaze, in my view at first glance, but if the animations are better it could be worth it. I find the robotic wobbling of Aspens Ablaze very weird and quite distracting.

Discussion topic: Happy Little Trees by T4gtr34um3r Wiki Link Happy Little Trees is a Vanilla Tree Replacer that aims for good visuals while having a very low performance cost. The next feature of this trees are the animations. Because the trees are skinned. No more repeating wobble of branches every 10 seconds. The branches are moving very naturally. Not suggesting this for inclusion in the guide, as I have zero experience with it, but I'm curious to know what the STEP team thinks of this mod. I see that it's been recently finalized and @z929669 has been providing LOD resources for DynDoLOD 3. See the forum mod topic for that one. I'm tempted to give it a try, as I wouldn't mind sacrificing a little visual candy for a little performance boost. More natural animations sound nice too. Question for Z, that I didn't find in the comments section: are the DynDoLOD 3 resources up to date and ok to use with the mod current version 1.01?

Various core immersion mods missing
Mousetick replied to NuroDragonfly's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
Ha-ha me too I'd recommend listening to his behind-the-scenes Confessions of a Let's Player (YouTube), they're pretty funny too and interesting. I've also been watching his let's play of Mass Effect - Legendary Edition (YouTube), I'd recommend it too if you enjoyed that game. It's not as entertaining as Skyrim and Leonard however IMHO, due to the linear and railroaded nature of Mass Effect (and the lack of mods). -
Various core immersion mods missing
Mousetick replied to NuroDragonfly's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
No Snow Under the Roof is mostly unnecessary with Better Dynamic Snow 3.x. They both fix or enhance vanilla snow on/under roofs, and they do it differently. It's a (subjective) matter of choosing one or the other. STEP uses BDS so NSUtR is out. -
I agree. For this very reason I created a modgroup in MO dedicated to mesh fixes and improvements (if you look at the list I posted above, it starts at ELFX) that sits between Foundation and Models and Textures. There is no such Nexus category as "Mesh Fixes & Improvements", but so what. Yes indeed, but it takes some effort and is error-prone. The point I was trying to make is that hiding files/folders should be a last resort, and that re-arranging mods in sort order in MO is a lot easier, and somewhat more logical/intuitive, in order to resolve overwriting conflicts. The STEP team can determine the correct grouping and order; guide users simply need to follow it, no additional effort required from them. There are several instances in the STEP guide where hiding is made necessary simply because the mods are put in different modgroups strictly based on Nexus categorization and for seemingly no rational reason. Nexus categorization can be helpful for browsing or searching the catalog of mods, but not so much for organizing mods in MO, especially because this categorization can sometimes be arbitrary or haphazard. Anyway... I'm not saying this is the best way or this should be "the way". I'm just providing a different perspective - thinking "out of the box", so to speak.

I don't quite understand what you mean. File names are distinct from mod names, and typically have no incidence on how mods are named in MO when Nexus metadata is available. To avoid veering too much off-topic, you may want to continue this discussion by posting in the Mod Organizer or General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support forum, as it sounds like it pertains more about MO usage in general than about the Realistic Water 2 mod in particular.
-
As long as you have the original unmodified archives (.zip, .7z, .rar) downloaded from Nexus, you can ask MO to recreate the metadata: Configure MO so that its Downloads path setting points to the folder where you store all your pre-downloaded mods. Switch to the Downloads tab. Mod archives that have no metadata display a warning icon ⚠ in front of their name. Right-click on a file and select 'Query Info' MO2 will scan the file, compute a checksum, and retrieve the metadata from Nexus. This is almost instantaneous but may take a bit more time for very large archives. In case there is an ambiguity, MO will ask you to manually confirm the mod ID and game.

ACCEPTED High Hrothgar Fixed (by Outpowner)
Mousetick replied to Mousetick's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
It's replacing the full model mesh. It's also providing a LOD mesh, some textures (which may or may not be used, unclear at this point), and it's patching Skyrim.esm for... something. It's all part of the ''High Hrothgar Window Glow' FOMOD option, this add-on is intended to be used with DynDOLOD's 'Glow window' feature I think. The window texture itself which is the same in all cases is provided by the Rustic Windows mod: /textures/architecture/highhrothgar/hhwin02.dds. I need to investigate some more and perform some more tests.- 22 replies

Discussion topic: Shadows Of Sunlight - In Small Exterior World Spaces by wSkeever Wiki Link This mod applies the same trick used for allowing the sunlight to shine through another two small areas, as with Labyrinthian Shalidor's Maze Fixes: Giant's Grove, and Castle Volkihar Courtyard. They're both from the same MA. ESPFE plugin. Comparison Screenshots: STEP base (no Weather & Lighting mods) > STEP base + DVLaSS + Shadows of Sunlight Castle Volkihar Courtyard Giant's Grove (Serana decided to appear out of nowhere and follow) Unfortunately the big statue (in the center, not visible on screenshot, behind the rocks with the giant) doesn't appear to cast shadows. To be confirmed. Note: this mod also includes the sunlight trick for Shalidor's Maze, so it's partially redundant with 'Labyrinthian Shalidor's Maze Fixes', but not completely, as it doesn't contain the latter's other fixes. Both mods can be used at the same time, load order doesn't matter. There are conflicts with Atlas Map Markers which always wins, and other mods depending on where LOOT sorts this plugin. The changes are so tiny that they could all be included in the CR patch and this plugin could be omitted entirely. This mod has open permissions with these licensing terms: "If you use any part of this mod in your work, you must release it under Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)" which may be incompatible with STEP terms. To go to Castle Volkihar Courtyard for testing: Make sure this plugin is loaded after AMM otherwise it won't work Can't fast travel there even with all map locations enabled, using the console (coc DLC1VampireCastleCourtyard) didn't work for me either coc DLC1VampireCastleZCell1 in the console The door to the courtyard is right next (or behind) you

ACCEPTED High Hrothgar Fixed (by Outpowner)
Mousetick replied to Mousetick's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Conflict with DynDOLOD Resources - specifically the 'High Hrothgar Window Glow' option in its FOMOD: This mod also adds windows to the exterior of High Hrothgar, but they glow very dimly compared to DynDOLOD Resources and have a different glow tint. As with anything that tries to fill a void left over by vanilla, the replacement can deviate more or less from vanilla, and is quite subjective. Here are some comparison screenshots: Vanilla is pure vanilla STEP is STEP base (DynDOLOD Resources, including 'High Hrothgar Window Glow') + DVLaSS + Relighting Skyrim + a mod to make nights darker HHF is same as previous + High Hrothgar Fixed overwriting DynDOLOD Resources Daylight Vanilla > STEP > HHF Night STEP > HHF I had more screenshots but I've reached my quota. So maybe later. Anyway, personally I find the DynDOLOD window a little on the bright side, which doesn't make sense when the interior is so dark. With DynDOLOD Resources' glowing window option High Hrothgar lights up like a Christmas tree, day or night. Also the glow color isn't consistent with the color of the light inside. The window conflict is in one single mesh: /meshes/architecture/highhrothgar/highhrothgarentrance01.nif. So if one wants to keep the DynDOLOD version, this mesh should be hidden in this mod.- 22 replies

Discussion topic: High Hrothgar Fixed by Outpowner Wiki Link Also install the Optional File - ELFX Patch Keep the window pane from this, overriding DynDOLOD Resources version, which is too bright Are you sick of mesh fixes yet? Excerpt from the mod blurb: Installation: download 'High Hrothgar Fixed' main file and 'High Hrothgar Fixed - ELFX Patch' optional file, install both, overwrite the first with the second or keep separate as you wish. Compatibility: according to the MA, the meshes can safely overwrite USSEP, SMIM, Unofficial Material Fix. Can safely overwrite ELFX with the accompanying patch. The only remaining conflict is with DynDOLOD Resources, which is discussed in details further below. Please refer to the Nexus page for screenshots of a few fixes. Here is one I caught while wandering inside: Vanilla > STEP > STEP + High Hrothgar Fixed

ACCEPTED Convenient Reading UI (by uranreactor)
Mousetick replied to Mousetick's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
For a modded game that's supposed to improve upon the vanilla experience, I'd rather have as much UI hidden as possible for more immersion. So I'd opt for Z's suggestions. But I reckon this may not be friendly to users less familiar with the game.- 54 replies

No, you're right. The instructions are incorrectly referring to an inexistent clothes subfolder. It's a mistake. @z929669 This looks like it needs some fixing:- 6 replies

ACCEPTED Skyrim Realistic Overhaul (by Ancient/Starac)
Mousetick replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
There is no clothing subfolder in this mod to begin with. You may be confusing with aMidianBorn Book of Silence which does have a clothes subfolder that needs to be hidden. The instructions given for this mod on how to hide a file/folder are generic. Each mod has specific instructions on what to hide, as the case may be. For this one here, there is only file to hide: Textures\architecture\whiterun\wrfieldgrass01_n.dds.- 6 replies

ACCEPTED Convenient Reading UI (by uranreactor)
Mousetick replied to Mousetick's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Yes that's it. But it only happens if you select the 'Realistic Print' option in FO's FOMOD. This file doesn't get installed otherwise. It's not part of the Font Overhaul per se, it's more like an add-on. I'm recommending that this option not be selected in FO because a) its function is redundant with Convenient Reading's 'No more laser-printed book' feature and b) it "breaks" Convenient Reading. TLDR: You don't need FO's Realistic Print option if you use Convenient Reading. So make your life easier and don't select it. Then there will be no conflicts and installation order won't matter.- 54 replies

DROPPED Dragonborn Mages Robes Retexture Pack (by Rafuel)
Mousetick replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
No worries. Another important detail to consider: the guide (that I linked to in my previous comments) lists mods to install in a very specific order. If you just install all Wiki mods in alphabetical order (ignoring the fact that some of them may be deprecated or invalid), you won't get the expected results, or worse, the game may not work properly. Have fun with the guide and good luck If you have further questions or encounter any issue, don't hesitate to post in https://stepmodifications.org/forum/forum/157-step-skyrim-se-guide/. -

DROPPED Dragonborn Mages Robes Retexture Pack (by Rafuel)
Mousetick replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
You're going about it completely the wrong way. The Wiki is a repository of mods which may or may not be used in the STEP guide. They may have been used at some point, or may be used in the future, or were just being looked at and considered for inclusion in the guide but never actually included. It is not the guide. Friendly advice: follow the current STEP guide https://stepmodifications.org/wiki/SkyrimSE:1.0.0 and stick to it until you have completed it and run it successfully. Then you may want to deviate from it based on personal preferences. Again, this mod has been DROPPED from the guide. By looking at deprecated mods and commenting on them, you're wasting time. Beginning with yours, as well as everyone else's. -
