  1. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Nice find.
  2. This is exactly how we instruct our users to install MM. I personally follow sheson's suggestion to improve mountain LOD for reduced view distances (e.g., < 20000/50000/100000) even when I am not using reduced view distances, which is to set a new mountains rule to use Level0 at both LOD 4 and LOD 8 and Level 1 at LOD 16 (instead of the catch-all rule of Lovel0/Level1/Level2). Are you making this post in response to this topic or similar elsewhere? See user's solution in last post. We don't instruct to do this.
  3. System Setup Guide link
  4. We can simply hide the offending texture(s) then. Iconic's gems are definitely an improvement ... the metal, not as much.
  5. It's not like modding Skyrim is dangerous. We're not teaching people how to disable the safety on a firearm. If those switches provide more power to the user without creating headaches for others, I am all for it.
  6. No, but we also recommend redirecting SKSE output to a mod via the MO EXE setup so that this stuff doesn't go into overwrite (ame thing for certain other tools that output logs, etc. often). It is worth looking at that output, but it's usually just junk [Create files in mod instead of overwrite] in MO EXE config
  7. If the issue is not presenting itself again, I would chalk it up as a temporary problem that has since been resolved somehow.
  8. Run LOOT from MO as normal. You have it set up correctly in MO Click the ellipse in upper right of LOOT app. Configure paths ./Skyrim is common relative path notation for "folder in current directory", in this case, named Skyrim. Technically, it is better to use ../Skyrim relative path, since that generally means "relative path in directory above current directory" ... or ../../../Skyrim is three dirs above and so on. We don't know where every user has installed steam, so we just use ../Skyrim.
  9. I think your issues may be related to where you are installing things (under UAC-protected dirs), and we don't advise anyone how to get around that other than using a different location (it's related to Windows security/ownership settings). We set everything up under Drive:Modding (as the guide indicates at very beginning). Just look at the table of contents to jump to relevant areas. I think you should be going over that entire guide step by step to verify your setup against what we recommend. Tools installed in path outside of UAT and as 'standalone' apps. The other potential issue is how you have MO2 installed and configured. That can easily be referenced as well (standalone vs portable, descriptions of profiles and instances). We have links to all of the pertinent instructions. For LOOT, just open LOOT and go into the settings at upper right. Be sure your paths are correct for the games of interest. All of your issues should be resolved if you go through that guide from top to bottom. You can obviously skip over parts that you know are already correct or not applicable.
  10. AWESOME. This is the advice for which I was fishing. I can get confused by phraseology, since I am a literal thinker (and pedantic to boot ... very annoying, I know).
  11. That's my issue with Discord for content that is static and always applicable (like a manual or instructions). Discord sucks for that, even with pinning. No reason for all users needing to sift through conversations to find what should be in the manual. OK, I totally see the reasoning for excluding -allowmastersedit in that case but will let @TechAngel85 qualify if there was any historic reason to do so. -iknowwhatimdoing switch makes sense for us though.
  12. That would be a most welcome activity. Keen to hear your outcome/opinions.
  13. See this You REALLY should read the setup guide I linked. All of the answers are there for the Frostfall profile issue you are having as well as many of the other issues you are likely to run into. Otherwise, we will be unnecessarily troubleshooting your issues that are almost certainly related to your setup. Hence, look at our recommendations for said setup, which is why we created the guide. It does require reading, which I know many people hate to do ... but it beats typing, which is what you and we all have to do (redundantly) in order to support what is otherwise documented precisely to alleviate our having to do so. If you have any trouble understanding a relevant aspect of the setup guide, certainly, you should post to get clarification, which helps to improve the article.
  14. OK, so it is implied. I understand now how it would not be possible to 'render' a text *.btt file. I am trying to fully understand so that if/when I explain it to our readers, I don't misrepresent reality. So, the following statements must be true?: fTreeLoadDistance affects the distance from the PC that tree billboards are rendered on the atlas (as opposed to 'full' trees closer to the PC) fTreeLoadDistance affects traditional billboard tree LOD and NOT object tree LOD. Ticking "Ultra" in settings, OR setting fTreeLoadDistance=0 disables traditional billboard tree LOD.
  15. Yes, I read that section several times and looked elsewhere. Nothing explicitly mentions that this setting only has an impact when "Generate tree LOD" is ticked. Just confirming that it is implicit, given how LOD works with tree billboards and *.btt files. When trees are all rendered as object LOD in LOD 4 zone, fTreeLoadDistance can be 0 or 500000 and there is no difference. Otherwise, it works as expected.
  16. @sheson I'm testing presets/performance and want to confirm that SkyrimPrefs.ini setting fTreeLoadDistance only affects billboards and not statics. Is it accurate to say that this setting affects *.btt render distance and not *.bto?
  17. Yeah, I noticed that and disabled that one while testing.
  18. I grabbed this mod and related on Mar28, and it looks like it was updated on Apr 10, so feel free to modify the OP with new install instructions once you get it finalized. I disabled Smithing Perks in my load to avoid the issues, so please share your findings on that, too. I don't have enough familiarity with the vanilla and Step-modified perk system to make any sound judgements on record-level particulars.
  19. @sheson I'm optimizing some mesh rules and am not finding (as per "Performance" sec in doc): Did the file name/location change for mesh counts? 20. I reached out to the author of this guide on Nexus. This looks like a modding guide that includes all terrain and object LOD in the download that is obviously only applicable to those that follow all instructions and make no customizations --and if the authors themselves get LODGen right in the first place. I've been trying to communicate to various mod authors that include *.bto, *.btt, and *.btr files in their mods that doing so introduces potential for chasing many wild geese while herding cats across and through neighboring properties. I have seen a few posts on this site relating to issues with "Skyrim 2021", because the authors evidently are not able to meet their support demand. Unsurprisingly, not all is LOD related.
  21. I've determined that the issues posted are all related to the Skyrim 2021 guide someone posted on the Nexus. Please go to those authors for support for their guide.

  23. Gold is probably the most vanilla-friendly improvement.
  24. I ran v80 without issue recently but had the same issue with previous versions. I just saved the output, noted the worldspace where it failed in the log, and regenerated only the remaining worldspaces (they seem to execute in order of those listed in xLODGen). I copied the latest output over to former with overwrite. It seemed to work fine.
