Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
frihyland replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Turn off AA, that is the cause of shimmering. -
Mods already existing in step are listed in the STEP Anthology, supposedly it includes a thread for every mod ever in any version of STEP (we are a bit behind on getting it fully completed, it will be done shortly after release). STEP uses a combination of several different mods for trees not just vurts, the sparse trees is intentional, we cut lush trees because much of skyrim is supposed to be a frozen wasteland.

ACCEPTED Enhanced Blood Textures (by dDefinder)

EBT is in the upcoming STEP release -
The CK has its own ini files you can play with to control tons of stuff but I can't claim much experience with them.

Published ENBSeries 0.117 beta for TES Skyrim. New external shader allow modders to create own sun lenz effects, but at this stage it's not very useful for players. Also some minor fixes applied, like blood opacity on weapons.

Personally I use almost all of Insanity's work and have been for 7 months. Here's a link.

Interpreting Papyrus Logs
frihyland replied to Neovalen's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Scripts errors are less likely to cause a ctd than they are to break your game or savegame. Plenty of other stuff that is very likely to cause ctd's though like bad meshes, UDR's, broken Navmesh, etc. As for iron arrows, they have been a vanilla problem since Skyrim version 1.0 and have been fixed and rebroken multiple times with patches but I have never had or heard of a ctd related to them. -
Skyrim fails to load a save that uses > 2GB RAM
frihyland replied to Nyven's question in General Skyrim LE Support
The way you worded it is not accurate. There are 3 separate issues that all interplay. Using Windows 7 and Skyrim as example we get: From an OS/hardware viewpoint in x64 there is a hard RAM limit of 192GB, in x86 there is a hard 4GB limitFrom a 32 bit application viewpoint Skyrim can only address 4GB RAM (without writing its own memory handler) and by default its 2GB (and its defacto 3.2GB because the OS uses the rest), 64 bit apps can address 8 TerabytesVRAM is completely unrelated but it does seem to use regular RAM as a buffer, if you have 1GB VRAM in my experience it will allocate about the same amount of RAM as a buffer, so if you only have 4GB of RAM to start with you can run into trouble.  I can't find a reliable source on this one though.Sources: Memory Limit for Windows -

Warnings don't mean anything at all, do a search for error: and only pay attention to the line(s) just after it (they will use the same reference ID). -
Should I buy a cheap gpu with 4gb vram?
frihyland replied to dreadflopp's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Assuming you're running win 7 64 bit that is pretty much the perfect price/performance gaming rig, well done. Â As torminator states you will receive much less value from the extra card in Skyrim unless you are running multiple monitors or at 2560 or higher resolution, but for other games that are not cpu limited you will see a big difference. His advice is sound to sell your current card, but if you are going to all that trouble anyway by all means get a 4GB 670 and only do it if you plan to spend at least a thousand hours playing this game because its a huge investment that won't really benefit you in other games for as long as another year or two. -
That's about 90% probability at this point, We'll likely announce it on Monday. edit: I am just so easy to ninja, I need to stop opening so many tabs :P

I like our system of allowing anyone to suggest any mod for inclusion but I think another layer to aid focus would be to watch all the releases of a score of authors and really fast track them for inclusion. This list would include authors that have released 3 or more very disparate mods of exceedingly high quality and are hopefully still active. Shademe is my hero One more small update for Nitpick, a little resource for mod authors. Verlet Physics for capes, I hope Noodles and Nivea have the time and skill to use it.

@cestral I pm'd you a while ago, no rush for an answer needed, just wanted to make sure you noticed as you are new to the system here.

I would start over with a new bash.ini and make your edits, if there are any extra spaces or tabs in the file it will break the parsing. The Skyrim Installation Guide has a step by step process that should be the same as the one in the Bash guide, both are slightly out of date and will be updated when Wrye Bash 300 is released.

That article touches on a lot of controversial points (like climate change BS), not sure why the author decided to turn a science achievement into some massive political statement. I think you got caught up in the whole polarized politics and missed the point of the article, which is that massive achievements are still possible by concerted human effort no matter the odds (if you are able to check your individual politics and religion at the door and get to work).

Should I buy a cheap gpu with 4gb vram?
frihyland replied to dreadflopp's question in General Skyrim LE Support
What about Win NT, Win2k, server 2003, etc? Those weren't stable? Lot of servers and enterprise machines ran on those back in the day. Not sure about vista/win7 to be honest so I won't comment there. I meant consumer systems, Microsoft servers/workstations are actually quite good until you compare them to Linux. -

frihyland replied to dreadflopp's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I would compare Win 8 more with the jump from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, buggy as all hell but a necessary step to achieve a complete paradigm change. To date Microsoft has only ever released one stable Operating System and that is Windows XP SP3 32-bit, Windows 9 (or 2015) will hopefully be the 64-bit equivalent. I'll be upgrading to Win 8 myself for sure because the compatibility and performance increases are pretty substantial and I have already bent Metro to my will. -
Nice big picture article that really sums up my personal perspective beautifully.

Should I buy a cheap gpu with 4gb vram?
frihyland replied to dreadflopp's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings > select Adjust For Best Performance > click smooth edges of screen fonts > Apply > EnjoyThat makes things ugly all the time though, not *just* when running the game. You can turn on transparent glass and shadows under windows as well if you like the bling all the time without much of a hit.  Windows 8 supposedly automatically clears all this stuff out of memory when  running a fullscreen directx app anyway. -

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings > select Adjust For Best Performance > click smooth edges of screen fonts > Apply > Enjoy As for Nvidia models, don't buy any model under x60. Â x60 is the budget model, x70 is the price/performance model, x80 is the bling model The wiki guide is here.
