Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

Recommended Posts

I have the same issue. My FPS can actually be worse in some places with RWL than with an ENB or NS. This is the reason why I have been sticking to ENB's to change the lighting. I just have had issues with both NS and RWL. Shame that there aren't more weather mods for New Vegas. I would try Fellout or Project Reality but neither have been updated in years and don't cover the DLC. :\

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one.  I was being kind when I said only 5 FPS... I think it was worse than that.  :)

The issues you have had with NS - were those due to the storms or were they other problems?  It seemed that once I disable the 3 types of storms that it isn't bad.  There are a few reasons I am worried about shifting to an ENB.  For one, I know in Skyrim that I do not like the FPS drops when using ENBs.  For another, you like me experience "ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true" issues - can ENB run effectively without that?  For another another, would an ENB properly darken the scenery outside without NS or RWL installed compared to the darkening done by having Interior Lighting Overhaul installed?

Stumbled into this and noticed Super Mutants don't seem to be covered by the guide: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/56844/?

Tau34RUS has quite a few great looking replacers.

Edit: Also I noticed a couple more things. Ghouls Hi-Res retexture gets overriden by both NV Redesigned 3 and Rboert's Male. Shouldn't it be moved lower so it can override those two? Also the instructions for Robert's Male mention a bsa but the version currently available in nexus uses lose files.

Personally I'm not even using ENB, I'm using ReShade + SweetFX 2.0 and I've created my own preset (as converting any is a PITA)

Super simple to setup, download the ReShade + SweetFX 2.0 pack on their main page, extract, run the setup, select fnv4gb.exe and dx9, done. At that point you just need to make a preset by editing SweetFX_settings.txt. Works just fine running fnv4gb through MO.

Here is my settings in case you just want to see it working when you start it up.

And some screenshots:

As you can see I'm not going for heavy shadows (Would be overly dark with this mod set) or super fancy effects, I like clarity and performance myself.

Do not try to install if you already have ENB, you would need to remove all ENB files first.

ReShade seems to have depth buffer access in FNV so I might try getting a nice DoF going and possibly SSAO.

I'm not quite sure really, according to the wiki "YES, ENBoost is needed by EVERYONE, including those that do not use ENB!"  I just wish this was explained. It makes no sense for someone not using ENB to be using ENBoost as it would overwrite the d3d9.dll that comes with something like ReShade.

It should probably be clarified that yes use ENBoost if you either don't plan to use shaders at all or plan to use ENB specifically. As to use them both I believe ReShade needs to be loaded as a proxy library. (Check the Compatibility section there, has instructions)

I'm pretty sure that only applies to Skyrim. AFAIK ENBoost has been more of a "nice" thing for previous games, whereas it's needed for Skyrim because it was specifially made to adress an issue with the way the game handled memory, something that doesn't happen in previous games.

From the guide (F&LNV):

ENBoost may cause performance issues for some users. Try it out and if performance drops, then just remove the d3d9.dll from the Fallout New Vegas folder.

Also you can hook a secondary d3d9.dll to run through ENBoost. I do it myself to run SweetFX in Skyrim.

Yeah as a proxy library, and apparently ReShade now works this way as of 0.19.0 (its up to 0.19.2 now) so thats nice. Means ENB presets can be used with ReShade now.

I just went back many pages to page 135 of this forum thread, because I remember a number of things brought up about the guide that I don't remember being implemented.  I'm bringing them up again in case they were lost and forgotten.  I'm sure there's much more, but I grabbed just a few.

4.  There are numerous level list conflicts between GRA - The Right to Bear arms and everyone else, because GRA-TRTBA sometimes replaces whole lists with its own sublists and the set the 'UseAll' flag, while BASH goes back in, adds everything back that BRA removed, and includes the 'UseAll' flag  (e.g. 0002e2a6 WastelanderApparel, 000609dc CondPrewarBusinesswearDirty, 00ccf86 LootAmmoNVBullets10, etc).  This will totally screw all users of the list, who will suddenly get everything on the old list, plus entries from TRTBA.

I've wanted to address this because the big issue is Trooper Beta Overhaul Distributed and TRTBA. It's mostly the technique that Puce Moose used to achieve the distribution of stuff in TRTBA. I'd make a patch myself, but I was almost considering removing TRTBA since it makes some weapons to easy to obtain.

This can be mostly fixed by adding Bash tags Deflst, Delev, and Relev to GRA - The Right to Bear Arms, and telling LOOT to load TRTBA after everything else - in my run, after ADAM Complete.esp.  There is still one bad bashed list - 00f1b11 CondNVTrooperHelmet , which adds stuff from TrooperOverhaul-Dragbody.esp - but it's a whole lot better than it was.

LOOT should have all those tags, but I think there is some tags that still get applied to Wrye from LOOT. I remember adding many tags for this stuff myself a while ago. I don't there is a fix with tagging though, it is something I'd have to make myself.

However, I think the better solution is to tell LOOT to load GRA - The Right To Bear Arms.esp AFTER Bashed Patch,0.esp, so that it's level lists override everything.  Note, however, that LOOT will only do this if the Bashed Patch does not refer to TRTBA; if the bashed patch already does so, the solution is to use MO to manually change the order, then rebuild the bashed patch, THEN edit LOOT metadata.

Maybe this would work, but I would have to look it over myself to see what you are seeing. There are a lot of leveled list changes that I remember TRTBA making that I would have to look at again. Some of them were leveled lists that reference other leveled lists that Puce Moose created, but that mess up the stuff that Trooper Overhaul is trying to achieve.

I don't know. I'll have to ask Sharlikran and WrinklyNinja. My hope is that WrinklyNinja adds it to Wrye soon enough. One thing that anyone can do is find the Wrye Bash tagger script. There is a thread here on the STEP forums in the xEdit support forum, but I don't know if it is up to date.

Here's the initial IMPACT/WMX/CaliberX/WotNM/YUP patch. https://copy.com/qkNMo0trYKQXRZ0z

I just made it really quick in like five minutes. I still need to load up all of F&L and see if there is anything else that needs patching.

EDIT: Oh, don't forget to tag it Graphics, Names, Stats, Weapon Mods with Wrye Flash.

Drumber did a LOD noise texture that is amazing. It isn't released so you can get it from his blog. https://drumbermods.tumblr.com

Just click the HD LOD Noise part. It really looks nice, an upgrade from the one that is already in F&L which I thought was quite nice already and waaaaaaaaaay better than the vanilla.

Thanks for bringing that up. TRTBA seems more trouble than it's worth, I might just skip it.

Edit: DLC Weapons and Armors in the Mojave or DLC Weapn Integration might be alternatives to RTBA

Hey SRB,  I was reading back in the thread about the issues with IHWT and its installation with WMX. If I were to manually make a patch, would it be ok to add it to the guide? (It would really just be renaming some textures, I can open the .bat file on wordpad and use it as a guide and then just install it after both WMX)

Also, in case you were to add both IHWT and RFO, which one would you have win in conflicts?

I didn't add IHWT because I didn't want to add the extra work to the guide. If someone simplifies the process then I'll add it.

What's RFO?

What's RFO?

Retextured Fallout Ordnance; it seems to conflict with IHWT in the Grenade Rifle, Minigun, and Missile Launcher.
