A Real Explorer's Guide to Skyrim

Recommended Posts

The MOD: Better City Entrance.  Suggested to use the Better City Entrances - JK's Whiterun (Outskirts) Compatible Version.

The mod site has also the Better City Entrances - REGS Compatible Version

Which is the best version to use ?

The JK outskirts compatible version simply removes Whiterun. I've tested JK's Whiterun Ouskirts, Better City Entrances and ETaC Whiterun Exterior and the 3 play together very nicely. There is only one area that has some clipping. It's not noticeable unless you go looking for it so I won't tell you :p

Suffice to say that it can be easily fixed with console if it bothers you.

Silly question, but is there a list of which mods in STEP Core/Extended that need to be re-installed with proper compatibility patches somewhere?  I'm putting REGS back on my PC after a hard drive failure and have only put Core on so far and want to make sure I don't mess anything up.

If you are installing STEP Core+Extended and REGS, I recommend keeping a separate list of at least the REGS mods somewhere (spreadsheet or text editor) and then install STEP Core+Extended 2.2.9 in the order listed and note which mods have patches or options for mods in REGS. I think the big one is SkyFalls and SkyMills in which you need to select Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Falskaar, and Wyrmstooth. Realistic Water Two has a Wyrmstooth option. These are the only two in my notes, but best to check the file list on Nexus and the pay attention to the options in the mod installers to see if there are any others since some mods have been updated or vanished into thin air since I installed REGS.

EDIT: I think Realistic Water Two actually has both Falskaar and Wyrmstooth options for new lands and waves.

I don't think it's entirely fair to make direct comparisons between JK's City/Town overhauls and ETaC.

While they both make numerous cosmetic changes and additions, and add NPCs, the main difference is that ETaC makes significant changes to the positions of houses / buildings and adds quite a few as well.

This does bring along compatibility concerns of course, which are mostly addressed in the amazingly long list of available patches.

REGS is a guide after all, and as with any guide, it's up to each individual to decide to follow it exactly or not.

In any event, to answer the question about whether ETaC is finished - the answer is definitely no, according to her, but it is fully functional in it's current version.

Keith says it spot on: REGS is a guide... and is designed to offer as many choices to the end-user as possible.

That being said, in my opinion JK's work so far is superior to ETaC. However since ETaC covers so many places, and it does it so well, JK's mods are at the moment not a replacement for ETaC (full version). Considering however the recent fast releases of JK's town mods I think it is exciting to see how many towns he will eventually cover.

The decision between ETaC and JK rests on quality, quantity and consistency (between towns). If you ask me, at the moment, ETaC wins on 2 out of 3 fronts, but JK is likely to be a serious contender. Quality wise his work is better than ETaC imho

Let's wait and see what JK is going to release in the near future...

Hey guys

I'm thinking of starting a new playthrough and trying JK's mods instead of ETAC for a change and am wondering if the REGS specific mods, such as boat bobbing, better entrances, and better docks, should be used without etac or if they address other changes from other mods that I'm not thinking of.

Thanks.

All the mods in the guide are independent from other mods, so you can perfectly use all of the guide minus ETaC.

@Everyone: Sorry I've not been posting much lately, real life is being a PITA.

A small question that you guys may be able to help, I followed skyrim revisited guide by Neovalen, and wanted to add REGS on top of it, my question is can i follow the whole guide or should i just install what is in the REGS conflict resolution page because only those mods are compatible with SR?

Thank you in advance
