Sorry, I meant the blue ACCEPTED tag like the one on Rustic Elderscroll.

Interesting NPCs is an incredible mod but I think it can be a bit heavy with all the additional scripts and NPCs. It's definitely not a bad mod and I've used in several playthroughs, but I think it's more appropriate in a pack than in STEP Core or Extended.

Should this have an accepted tag on it yet?

How does one use an SKSE minidump file to diagnose CTD
Greg replied to tjax323's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Get Debugging Tools for Windows (WinDbg) (from the SDK) Click the link above or browse to Download the WDK, WinDbg, and associated tools page. Scroll down near the bottom of the path looking for the "Get debugging tools" heading and you'll see the link to Get Debugging Tools for Windows. The link on this page is exactly the same as one above, but I included this information in case you want more information or want to verify the authenticity of the above link. -
This and the Falmer live underground in caves and Dwemer ruins, so the Falmer are rarely in areas of direct sunlight.

How does one use an SKSE minidump file to diagnose CTD
Greg replied to tjax323's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I recommend being extremely cautious about uploading a Windows dump file to any website. A minidump (even one taken of a single process) may contain sensitive information (e.g. passwords or credit card numbers) and information that you may not want revealed to the public. Also note that this website claims ownership of anything you send or upload (including your minidump) with a stipulation that it can do anything it wants with your submissions. The site even clearly states it does nothing more than run !analyze -v via windbg on the file and shows the results. Anyone with windbg installed can do this themselves in two seconds and windbg is a free download. I realize the average user may not want to do this. but it's still a two second task that is trivially easy. I'm not saying this company isn't necessarily reputable... I'm just saying this raises a lot of red flags that warrants a lot of caution. -
Missing floors, walls, texture oddities...

Glad to hear have got it working. -
Also note that all mods in the STEP 2.2.9.2 guide have been updated to use USLEEP instead of the individual patches.

Can yo use a vanilla save to start the game, after STEP install?
Greg replied to RustyLH's question in General Skyrim LE Support
The primary issues are that existing saves may have mods or other settings baked into the save that can conflict with the new load order. There are also a lot of mods in STEP Core and Extended that need to run scripts to configure themselves (like all the MCM settings) or that have trigger points that need to run. You'll probably be OK using a pure vanilla save that's saved right after you leave Helgen, but I generally use and recommend Alternate Start to start a new game. This way you can safely start just about anywhere in Skyrim without having to go through the cart ride again. -

Install and enable Memory Blocks Log to verify the SKSE memory patch is configured and working correctly. This should at least pinpoint or eliminate the SKSE settings as the cause of the crashes. Double check your install of Static Mesh Improvement Mod and any lighting mods for the smelter. -
Windows uses a very rudimentary parser for INI files that does not support inline comments. You might be able to get away with it for numeric values, but this is a side affect of the of the parsing algorithm stopping at the first non-numeric character and is not recommended. Using line comments as outlined in the guide and stay away from inline comments to avoid issues.

This has been asked before and if I remember correctly the bonemold armor fix is included in one of the amidianborn mods so it's not necessary.

[SOLVED] STEP Extended + Couple other mods: ILS when starting New Game
Greg replied to Miko19's question in General Skyrim LE Support
If you've added 3DNPCs.esp to the game, I suggest installing and enabling Memory Blocks Log to verify the memory patch is working and to determine whether you need to increase DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB in skse.ini. -
Are you perhaps using the All Items Weight Adjustments mod? This mod is known to cause this issue. EDIT: Any you using any other overlays (like perhaps FRAPS)?
-
Yes, but the amount of memory allocated to first block varies based on a variety of factors and you may need more than the recommended setting if you use higher-resolution meshes/textures, you add additional NPCs or creatures to the game, and so forth. You may also need more if you use gargantuan screen resolutions, although that screen resolution on a 2GB 680 may tipping over the iceberg in terms of max VRAM. I mean that's a lot of screen real estate for a little 680.

The issue with the font is that Main Font Replacement (and probably other font replacers) supports English language characters, so you'll get either blanks or gibberish if Skyrim is set to a language other than English.
-
I'll just say I haven't used this mod in a while and leave it at that.

If you need to use mods that rely on the old unofficial patches, it might be best to use USLEEP Swap Masters Script to update these mods to use USLEEP.

ACCEPTED RUSTIC MONUMENTS and TOMBSTONES (by SparrowPrince and Gamwich)
Greg replied to rootsrat's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm still using this despite the mismatched wall with some justifications. I agree that it is significantly better than vanilla and I walk down the path with that wall so infrequently that I rarely see it. Even vanilla has a texture mismatch here so I'm not expecting perfection, but it might be nice if Gamwich could try to make it mesh a bit better. -
I say we take a wait and see stance to see how things play out when the next STEP release is nearing readiness, but I am worried that if this mod falls behind Arthmoor's it may put STEP in a pickle because older versions of Arthmoor's mods won't be available.

I grant that that bash (and the other *sh clones) put the Windows command line interpreter to shame. In fact, the Windows command line interpreter is very inflexible and doesn't really support much beyond the basics. PowerShell is very powerful and capable, and structured object manipulation leaves the *sh clones in the dust. The downside is that it has a steep learning curve so very few people really know how to use it beyond the basic dir and copy. Bash could theoretically fill a void, but I think it'll be a long time before it catches any traction due to the masses that aren't migrating to Windows 10.
