General Oblivion Support

Hey guys I'm having a problem with Wrye Bash. Whenever I try to create a new project or add the oblivion data folder backup to the Wrye bash installer pane it goes through the process of adding it then nothing shows up. Likewise when I create a new project to add the cleaned mods they do not show up. I have Wrye bash version 306 and windows 10. Any help would be massively appreciated.

Hey hishutup!

I've recently developed the urge to revisit Oblivion and thought why not try out your guide (it's not THAT outdated ;-) ). I've come through the entire guide really fluently. However I would like to adress several issues I am having with the result. For reference, I installed all non-red marked mods in the list and I used the most up-to-date versions of all of the available mods (even if the guide relied on older versions).

First of all, the game looks beautiful. I don't think I've even imagined how awesome it could look. It is still a very choppy experience for me though. Framerates drop when visiting new locations all the time. Your system requirements are certainly not adequate for what one would probably need to achieve a 40-60 FPS stable experience.

Secondly, while all of the newly added content is a awesome experience, it also comes at a cost of being really overwhelming, especially at the start. For people who have never enjoyed Oblivion before, it is too "full". It takes hours of real time getting to know the imperial city and especially the Alternative Beginning mod makes it hard to find a starting point. A warning to new players to first play Oblivion vanilla style and get to know the quest lines might be necessary.

Thirdly, the game is not stable. Even after I got the framerate stabilized the game CTDs on me frequently in the open world space. This might be caused by now incompatible mods due to recent changes or because my system is not as good as yours (although mine is pretty much on the high end for Oblivion at least).

 

I want to ask you whether you have ever actually played 100 hours into this setup and seen how the gameplay and stableness develops. Especially with all the new additions it seems quite an undertaking for this old engine to not crumble during longer play sessions.

I'm a little more than half way through the guide and just tested things out. So far everything is working.  I'm not installing everything though.  I put over 200 hours into this game years ago but never completed the main quest or even started the main side quests.  

 

I'm going mainly with green listed mods that don't really change much besides making the game look better for PCs and bug fixes.  I'm doing some oranges stuff also but I'm being very selective.  I think that is where you missed the point. This STEP guide is modular.  Why would a newbie install Alternate Start.  That is a great mod for someone like me that went through the tutorial 40+ times.  The mod is marked orange for a reason and not green.  You don't add mods just because they are on the list you add them because you want them now.

Ok I'm still going through the guide but decided to start playing.  I have around 80 mods going.  

 

I had a couple of random crashes during saving or loading.  I was able to load the save games I crashed on.

 

The game is pretty stable.  I have no FPS drops

 

Main problem at the moment is the crosshair is a lite black square and mousing over things don't display names. For example mousing over a door going to BoB's Magical Stuff doesn't display Bob's Magical Stuff.  Must be a setting in DarNified UI.

Hi Team.

 

First off thanks for the amazing guide. It's been a mission to go through (taken me most of my off time during the week!) but the game is looking amazing!!!

 

I have however encountered a particularly odd issues that I'm hoping you can help me with. 

 

As soon as I get into any kind of combat my view locks onto my opponent and I cannot look at anything else until either he dies or I die. What this ends up doing is getting me killed because I lose all situational awareness. I've really got no clue as to what could be causing it.

Sounds like it would be Deadly Reflex that is causing that - I would check the mod options and readme / instructions for anything about camera and see if you can disable the option.

That was my thought as well, but I've tried removing Deadly Reflex and the issue still occurs. To clarify with that by the way its DR V5 with the hotfix, not DR 6 (looked far too complicated to install!!)

Try turning off the camera in OR and OOO.  If that doesn't work try deleting the oblivion ini file, make a backup first.  Note you will have to do your ini settings over for darn ui or your game will crash on start up. 

 

I suspect the problem is with OR, OOO, and DR.  Even though you removed DR a ini setting could have been changed in oblivion, Or or OOO which is continuing the problem.  Also the problem is probably not with any one of these but a problem that only comes up when they are used in combination with certain settings active.

Hi Team.

 

Thanks for all the words of wisdom. I ended up starting from scratch because Oblivion was on special on Steam and I've never been able to play the Fighter's Stronghold DLC lol.

 

I found the issue. There is an INI edit that needs to be done in "OblivionReloadedEsp.ini" in the INI folder:

 

; Enables/disables the stay on target when combat (target is tracked from the first hit until the combat is finished or if you press the "Grab" key)
set ORLoaderQuest.StayOnTarget to 1
 
needs to be changed to 0. 
(To be fair who is going to try the grab key in that situation when you have no idea what's happening... :blush: )
 
I do acknowledge if had read through the mods description somewhere I probably would've known this from the start, but when you are following a guide like this you just tend to follow the instructions and hope it works out right at the end.
 
Respectfully request this be added to the guide as it's just cost me about 20 hours of installing time that I'm now about to redo from scratch. At least I'll have the motivation to play it for ages now to make it worth it!

Sorry me again.

 

So I've gone through and done the whole reinstall from scratch thing...which was fun.

 

Now I get a Crash to desktop pretty much whenever I change cells, mainly exterior, or if I try to say fast travel to the Market District. As far as I can tell I've followed all the instructions to the letter. The only thing I can't do is:

Master = {

bManageFPS = 0
bReplaceHeap = 1
bFastExit = 0

 

If I set bReplaceHeap to 1 then my game crashes on launch without fail.

 

Load order below, it's sorted through BOSS so technically should be right o.O

 

Apologies for being a pain. I would just really love to get this to work!

Im getting a a CTD while using OR with OOO between Horn cave and ferygll inn.   I been trying locate what was causing the issue, and it seems once I enabled OR with OOO it CTD's when I either fast travel to Horn cave, or when I'm traveling on the road by horn cave to fergyll inn. This is also with ONLY OR and OOO installed in order to rule out any other mods. I really don't see how OR is causing the CTD, but when I enable OOO and OR together it crashes at the place I described.  If you guys could help that would be great. 

 

I'm using the latest version of OR and OOO
