Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

Recommended Posts

I'm going through the STEP guide and currently at the phase where I install Poco Bueno. However, I had a different outcome than what the guide tells you to do:

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the ".../<Mod Organizer>/downloads" folder and select PocoBuenoTexturePackV5-42028-5.zip.
Extract the PocoBuenoV5.fomod to the "downloads" folder.
Return to MO and install the FOMOD, when the file directory pops up, expand "PocoBuenoV5" (not "pocobuenov5"), right click "data" and select "Set data directory".
Click [OK].

When I extract the .fomod file to that downloads folder, the fomod file indeed shows up in the downloads tab of MO as PocoBuenoV5.fomod (with the warning exclamation mark next to it, telling me the mod ID's missing). However, when I proceed to install it, I don't get any "wrong data directory" prompt as I have had before with other mods, and as this instruction is telling me as well. It just shows up in the left pane as PocoBuenoV5.

So, do I ignore this instruction in the guide, or have I indeed extracted the wrong thing or extracted to the wrong location, or wrong installation method perhaps? I figured it was worth mentioning as I'm still a newb and the ' expand "PocoBuenoV5" (not "pocobuenov5") ' phrasing has got me a bit worried.

Besides that, there are two "irregularities" I have in MO that I wanted to ask about:

1) in the archives tab, every box that could possibly be checked is checked (the official DLC bsa's in black ticks except for the Fallout - Invalidation.bsa, all the mod bsa's in grey), except for the .bsa of JIP Companions Command & Control - Assets. Did I do something wrong when installing that one (it was little over a week ago that I did that), and does it indeed need to be checked? Or is that up to the player or something?

2) in the Data tab, I've got 1 entry in the Mod-subtab that is in red: "New Bison Steve Version 107 - SORTOMATIC VERSION" with according file named "The New Bison Steve Hotel.esm". When I hover over it, the tooltip says "Also in: The New Bison Steve Hotel and Lucky Casino". Incidentally, right above it in the Data tab I've indeed got "The New Bison Steve Hotel.bsa" file next to mod: "The New Bison Steve Hotel and Lucky Casino". Did I screw this up as well, or is this normal at this point in the guide?

1) Manually ensure that all items (BSAs) in the archive tab are enabled (checked).

2) The master file download for the Bison Steve mod includes both a bsa and esm.  The sortomatic optional file download for Bison Steve contains only an esm.  The optional file should be merged into your installation of the master file in MO, which will overwrite the master file's esm.  In the end, you should have one mod installed that includes the bsa from the master file download and the esm from the sortomatic optional file download.

...

When you double-click on the PocoBuenoV5.fomod in the 'Downloads' tab do you get the small dialogue entitled: 'Quick Install'?

If yes do you then press 'Manual' and are then presented with the 'Install Mods' dialogue? This is the dialogue that will say if the mod has: "No game data on top level."

If not could you post your log from the 'logs' folder?

Will there be a problem if WMX-Arenovalis.esp and MiscItemIconsNV.esp are merged into the bashed patch?  I'm at 134 plugins atm (with the inclusion of AWOP) and I think that's already too much.

Just got done testing...look like these two files are ok to be merged.  I can now see the new icons and also spawned in the gun Lucky and it looks great.

Also, when the generate bash tag script is used on these two files, the only thing it adds is {Graphics}, so I'm not sure why the nomerge tag is needed.  Can anyone more knowledgeable than I am explain why?

Thank you for the help. I now enabled/checked the JIP C C&C Assets .bsa file in the Archives tab, don't remember what I did wrong while installing that though. You also cleared out what I had done wrong with the Bison Steve mod, I didn't enter the Nexusmod ID for the sortomatic optional file before installing it (it's a manual download only) so I had it installed as a separate mod, I did fix it now and my Data tab is okay again.

Thanks a bunch to you as well! I never tried pressing the 'Manual' button (only had to do it 1 or 2 times in the STEP guide until now I think?), that indeed gave me the data prompt where I could choose the correct directory. As a newbie I didn't think of that (maybe also because it's not spelled out like that for you in that particular guide step :P )

Update: I've also noticed something in my MO Plugins tab: every single one of them is enabled/checked except for the Detect Traps Merged.esp, incidentally it's also the only one in that list without a Mod Index. It resides between Advanced Recon Tech - Detect Traps.esp and Advanced Recon Range Finder.esp. Is there something I did wrong installing this (I remember the Advanced Recon Trap Detection mod had multiple esp's and I merged them into the newly named 'Detect Traps Merged' through FNVEdit, like the guide told me), or do I still need to do something like uncheck the Detect Traps Merged.esp and enable Detect Traps Merged.esp? Or do I simply leave it like this?

The Detect Traps Merged is not listed as a mod itself in the left pane by the way, its ESP just resides in the Available ESPs window at the Optional ESPs tab of the Advanced Recon Trap Detection mod.

Interior Lighting Overhaul has been updated to 6.9 in the beginning of July, the guide still works with v6.8.1. Is it okay to use the external fomod installer for v6.9 and install the (new) YUP patch as well? And can that patch be installed without merging it to ILO - Merged Patches.esp (merge it later to the bashed patch, similar to the Nevada Skies patch) ?

Or do I simply not install that YUP patch, and/or keep using v6.8.1 altogether?

Do the glowing ones tank fps for anyone else? There are just certain directions I can't even look toward. Some of them are all glow and seem to pulse, and globs of glowyness get left around.

There are weird patches of ground that glow. As you near them the framerate drops further and further. My character will start to be covered in the glow texture. Eventually it crashes. I'm trying to get a screenshot but it's not easy.

I wouldn't even care if disabling the FCO-Glowingone esp fixed it, but it didn't. I can't even do the Searchlight quests. (I tried leaving and waitng three days in hopes the weirdness would despawn. Even tried pcb in the console. No dice)

Edit: This isn't very close, but you can see the glowing one glowing very brightly (he stops glowing like that as he moves away from the spot and closer to me.) The spot is peeking over the rock.

Edit2: Ok this is better. It's between the three brightest spots, the glowy area on the dirt. It's like this semi-invisible spot that gives of light that makes every surface it hits super bright, while also tanking fps and even crashing the game. This isn't the only spot like this, either. Why doesn't it go away when I disable the mod?

Edit3: herpderp I didn't rebuild my bashed patch after deactivating glowingone.esp. Now I can turn it off. Still, I'd love for it to be on and working. Such a cool idea.

Hi everyone.  My name is Ezequiel i'm a Novice STEP-like Guides Execcutor (i can't call myself a modder, that is a really high title that i'm quite far away from)

First of all i want to thanks EssArrBee for your work , you've done great to the falloutnv community with your guide.

I came here looking for some help since i cannot make my FNV work with MO and this guide. Each time i try to start the game my the game starts without cursor or main menu.

When i make some changes, like using FNV4GB or ENB injector , it won't even reach that stage, it just crashes before showing the NCR Ranger main screen. Right now i'm dealing with the issue number 1 - No menu no Cursor on main screen.

I follow step-like guides since a few years now, i did successfully finished STEP 2.2.9.1 + Extended without serious issues.

Still with FNV MO and Fear and Loathing the game won't even start up.

I have made the whole process of installing everything back again from scratch because the last time i tried,  i couldn't make it works and i quitted. but know i refuse to just declare myself defeated.

i followed everything on EssArrBee guide , until texture optimization. For 2 reasons:

1-  its too much work and pretty easy to **** things up. and

2- i consider that my pc have strong hardware enough and relative small display (just 22") to play it fair. I don't believe this is the reason for my non starting fallout. ( you may think i'm negligent because it not all about strong hardware when the game engine is about to explode) So please correct me if i'm wrong.

So far i've checked this stuff :

-I did followed the advice of keeping BSA count down beneath 30's , actually my bsa count is 29,

-My plugin count is 137, i've read here that 140 is the red mark. so i believe i'm fine on that too.

-I've run loot and fnvedit multiple times and i get no errors in whatsoever. no missing masters.

-I've tried both , non ENB and with ENB , FNV4GB and without. NVSE, or even running FalloutNV.exe from MO. The same dirty thing happens. No cursor no menu on NCR ranger main screen.

-Disconnected joysticks just in case. didn't solve anything

So now i'm pretty much running out of ideas, i have researched all over the internet without clear answers about my issue and so i came here to see if i can get some help about it.

My Specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Asus X99-Deluxe

Intel i7 5820k 3.3ghz 6-core

16GB Gskill Ripjaws

GTX 980 4GB VRAM

Game and MO running on a Corsair Neutron GTX SSD RAID-0

Thats it for now. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

PS: I'm using the most updated versions of all mods, ( if they were updated after the last guide review ) Could that be an issue?

Hey I just wanted to ask if someone knows of a compatibility patch between EVE and More Perks Merged Mod?

More Perks adds this perk:

Chemical Engineer (level 12) (rank 1) (Activate) (ID:D2EE34)
You can turn goo and ash into the same tpye of ammo that left your foe this way
When I took it in my current game I already had the suspicion that it probably wont work since EVE replaces pretty much everything that has to do with Ash, Puddles, Goo and Death Animation with Energy Weapons

Try this mod !https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/60001/?
