Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

Recommended Posts

Yet another question by yours truly, but, the ARMA 3 collimator optics tech has clearly spoiled me, and I happened on this awesome mod on the Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58496/?

There is supposedly some incombatibility with WMX, but, other than that, has anyone used it with a F&L install and if so, what issues arose?

The issue is that instead of moving the camera closer to the target and applying an overlay as with some vanilla scopes, this mod, uses a modified model of the weapon and looks through the scope.  Since WMX modifies the weapon model, it causes issues.  Any mod therefore that modifies the weapon model will be incompatible. Of the top of my head, only WMX should be changing the mesh, though any mod altering say weapon damage may also override the formids.  This would include EVE and IMPACT.

Jax, what constraints did you use with DDSopt?

For FNVLODGen, he's releasing updates on TTW forums (https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/fnvlodgen).  Following all posts in that thread along with the chat, progress is looking good.  Trees are weird, but NV seems to use them as objects instead of the FO3 tree lod.

Can't remember, it's been a long time since I did the process.

Also, the Better Gas Leak mod affects certain objects negatively, namely House's portrait in House Resort and the rusted terminals like the one found in Doc Mitchell's home, so I created a mod to fix them.

Took a bit of digging in the GECK lol.

Also, does there exist an Impact compatibility patch for the mods included in the guide? Just finished my playthrough, and now I'm updating my mod list in preparation for my next one.

EDIT: Another question, is it recommended to switch from Nevada Skies to Realistic Wasteland Lighting? Is there a noticeable performance difference?

I personally am liking RWL more. About performance, I can't tell any difference. I do have a very good rig though.

I have encountered an issue, and it's one of the annoying ones that you find mid play-through and ruins it because I think it has to do with leveled lists and if it's anything like Skyrim I'm guessing I might have to start over.

I encountered a naked Travelling Merchant. At first, I thought it might have been the Spice Of Life ENB bug, but I killed her and she didn't carry an outfit at all. Checked with FNVEdit, id was 163cbb, only mod that touches those is FNV redesigned 3.

EDIT: I just remembered something more. The convict leader in Primm's Bison hotel was also nude. I didn't pay much attention to that then (I thought that was the case in Vanilla as well, since he is in the bed area when you walk in, don't judge). He is supposed to wear a Leather Armor, which the merchants also wear afaik. Might it be that it's a variant from Spice of Life that is missing or something?

I occasionally encountered naked NPCs on my previous playthrough, I just used the resurrect command to fix it whenever. Are you using Diversified Wasteland? I am, and I've heard it has some issues with naked NPCs. Also have you uninstalled any mods during your playthrough? Might be they were meant to be wearing certain armor, and uninstalling the mods results in them being naked.

After some playing around with IMPACT, I realised that body replacers don't produce bullet wounds on characters (I tested with a vanilla profile, and with the Impact ini tweaks, bullet wounds were prevalent on both NPCs and the player character). Are there any compatibility patches out there to solve this, or is essentially a pick your poison scenario?

EDIT: After further testing, it appears to be hit and miss. Wounds show up on armors, but they can sometimes just refuse to appear unless you hit the limbs first.

Nope, I installed F&L, with the exception of Nevada Skies and an ENB (Got RWL instead).

I went to the FNV wiki and grabbed all the codes for the merchants thinking I'd spawn each one of them and see which ones were nude. Turns out, if I spawn the same code sometimes they're naked (Carrying 2 stormchaser hats instead of one and no armor) and soometimes they're not. I'm not really sure how leveled lists work in FNV or how actors get their gear so I can't say any more than that.

EDIT: Well I'm done checking them all up on FNEdit, only thing that touches them is FNV Redesigned (both esm and esp) and they don't touch the leather armor equipment. Only difference is some head morphs and the "Can be any race" flag.

What does RWL do better than Nevada Skies? NS has the various weather patterns, what are the other differences between the two?

It is supposed to be lighter than NS. Also, I quite like the "clear" weather lighting conditions more than the NS ones.

Nevada skies adds many weather types, and it's what it does best.

RWL is better at lighting but closer to vanilla weather.

Personally, I just don't like many of the weather types introduced by Nevada Skies.

I don't like the storms introduced by NS - they just don't feel right.  The Radstorm just doesn't make sense for a number of reasons - the main one being that NPCs ignore and seem to be immune to the radiation - huh?  The Rainstorm doesn't make sense either - um... desert?  The Duststorm makes the most sense, but still seems overboard - it's not the Sahara desert, for one.  For another, there is no silting effect left over on objects during or after a duststorm.  If there were duststorms that heavy, the environment would look much different.  So I think that the storms just don't add anything that really fits in - they break "immersion" more than anything.
