FEEDBACK Weird LODgen and DynDOLOD Instruction
z929669 replied to TheKingDede99's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
I recently updated the LODGen stuff in guides and relevant mod pages and missed updating the xLODGen Wrapup. In short. the CL LODGEn resources must be enabled ONLY during terrain gen, but MM LODGen resources should remain enabled and can even be merged into the main mod. Just enable both during LODGen and only disable CL. MM is not 'TEMP' as the instructions had previously indicated. It sounds like you did it correctly regardless. Should all be correct now if you want to verify. -

I have yet to update from 0.3.0b, so @TechAngel85 will need to confirm these changes.

A few issues I ran into installing the LE 3.0 guide
z929669 replied to Dave0523's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
I haven't used the latest LODGen stuff from sheson, but the OP currently points to: ... not sure if this is why the Terrain LOD option is missing: @TechAngel85 will need to confirm, as I have not installed LE at all for a while much less according to the guide The same may be the case for the Occlusion check box. Could all be due to updated LODGen software, but IDK. EDIT: I just checked the version in sheson's OP, and it's 4.1.3.1, which is the same version it's been for a long time, so not sure what is happening. You should revisit the guide under Tool Setup and STEP 5 ... you may have missed something. You will need to be more specific about how/where you found: -
Help identifying specific mod texture
z929669 replied to Braxus's question in General Skyrim SE Support
Try More Informative Console It will give you lots of info on right click. The mod description and doc will give you more info. install at the top of your mod order in MO or WB just after the DLC and before most other mods (although it doesn't really matter where, as it has no conflicts) -
Any changes from that guide (additional mods, skipped mods, etc)? Did you install the correct version of LoS? Did you install L&W section? I've never seen this issue, so this is the stuff I would check.

About Winterhold College LOD flicker
z929669 replied to WYH77787980's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
For clarity on what I had mentioned previously. This shimmer on ice sheets at left and a few rocks in middle of screen look like the LOD4 vanilla bug sheson mentioned ... or z-fighting: Skyrimse 2021-03-15 13-20-12-63-1.m4v The shimmering of the glacier at lower left is caused by Just Ice, and no movement is necessary: Skyrimse 2021-03-15 13-29-46-92-1.m4v All under Step SE 0.3.0b build -

z929669 replied to WYH77787980's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
I just checked and verified it's LOD4. Affects my game as well. I used latest DynDOLOD 2.xx and associated LOGGen as in the SE guide and Step SE 0.3.0b. Winterhold College LOD Shimmer Fix does not resolve in the SE guide, so nothing to do. I will note that there is plenty of subtle shimmer on LOD4 Ice textures out there as I mentioned previously. The bridge is by far the worst though. -

z929669 replied to WYH77787980's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
As I mentioned previously, this does not seem like a LOD issue but rather full textures, since the camara seems too close to the shimmer effect in the vid provided on this thread. @sheson are you saying that this flickering is indeed LOD4? EDIT: I withdraw the question. Confirmed it is indeed LOD4 issue. -

z929669 replied to WYH77787980's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
@WYH77787980 If you see this flickering effect as posted previously without any mods enabled at all and with a 'clean' game folder and starting Skyrim with the default launcher, then it is almost certainly a INI setting OR a driver setting or some other issue relating to your video drivers. DoubleYou will likely be able to verify your INIs. If so and there are no INI issues, then my guess is driver settings. Please provide your video card make/model and general system specs. I'm thinking that you may be able to mitigate with a few adjustments to driver settings, but you will want to also update your display driver software if it isn't up to date. Lastly, if you do want to verify that this happens without any mods and default Skyrim launcher, you will want to load a fresh game and travel to the location to check just to eliminate any possibility that it is related to data in your save game. -

@WYH77787980 Please try disabling all mods via MO and load that save to see if it is resolved. This is not a LOD issue based on that vid. If it resolves, begin enabling mods in batches ... first half, check. If still flicker, then disable first half and enable last half, check. Keep using this algorithm until you narrow down a single mod. And set uLargeRefLODGridSize to default '9' while doing all this -

z929669 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Yeah, I saw that. Lots of bitterness and sarcasm there ... the cathedral concept is all about sharing knowledge and experience. What is freely given should not be conditional on provisions of copious and continuous deference and adoration of the benefactor by the beneficiaries. AFAIK, none of those implied "usurper-competitors" stepped on anything of his or disrespected him openly.- 88 replies

About Winterhold College LOD flicker
z929669 replied to WYH77787980's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
This sounds more like flicker caused by a mod (Just Ice) affecting the ice material shader rather than LOD transition. I get ice/glacier flicker in that area due to this mod. Tough to speak to your situation without a video or screens. uLargeRefLODGridSize may be entirely redundant if you are using DynDOLOD though. @DoubleYou can speak more to this setting and its usefulness with DynDOLOD. Setting this to '5' matches uGridsToLoad and effectively disables, but default is 9. Try disabling Just Ice and retesting to confirm. -

Just read though the last couple days of #landscapes channel ... Looks like the classic reasons. People want recognition and the glory of being at the perceived top of the heap. Others compete for that space. Offense is taken, and they go off in their own directions. Ergo, ego wins the day. I've seen it many times. Hopefully this spurs their creativity and the hostilities fade.- 88 replies

STEP guide followed - Cannot start in windowed mode
z929669 replied to eXistenZe's question in General Skyrim SE Support
Agree. The Display Tweaks mod has the settings that will resolve. -
What you are describing then is not stutter. it's GFX anomolies that could be due to any number of things. yes, stutter is essentially rendering 'lag'. Vsync with FPS caps minimizes as well as increased GPU RAM and clock. If you use radeon, they you should probably try adaptive sync or 'freesync'. See this post for some ideas
-
microstutter is just very fast, small-increment lag. Arguably, most people experience it to some degree no matter the system. Always enable vsync Always cap your frame rate to your monitor refresh rate (this only matters if your system is mid-high end with 'high' display settings). There are simple ways to minimize stutter and video anomalies as explained in some recent posts. It has to do with all of the settings you mention. There are redundancies. You need to establish a baseline with all settings OFF and only default INI settings. Then make incremental changes to single settings and examine results. Iterate over and over until you find the optimal for your system. Begin with all display driver settings and mod display settings set to default or off. Use BethINI to set mid/high/ultra. Then tweak individual settings. It takes a while.
-
Agree. I would add More Informative Console to your install near the top of the list and click on those assets to get more info and then find/view them in your MO data folder.

The current MO guide is not fully updated to MO2. Feel free to update anything you care to tackle though.

z929669 replied to Somo's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
Maybe next time, post a topic name that is a bit more brief? -
In my experience, most stuttering/GFX/havok issues are related to vsync and FPS capping/not in relation to monitor refresh rate. This is compounded by the fact that you can have > 1 setting dictating these (display soft-settings, game INIs, display tweak mods, and ENB-related post-processing). The most complex of these are often the opaque driver soft-settings, which depend on your GPU software (which then has versioning dependencies on hardware and software). My advice would be to turn all of these OFF and establish a baseline by loading up a reliable save. Then make singular changes to each of the multitude of settings and check against the same save game. My optimal settings came down to using my driver soft-settings for vsync and AA and and my display tweaks mod(s) for FPS limiters/caps. But every situation can be different.

@DoubleYou The forum links to the old site will work fine, but they need an extra dash for some reason, so ... https://forum.step-project.com/topic/13322- ... will be broken, but https://forum.step-project.com/topic/13322-- ... will work fine.
