ACCEPTED aMidianBorn Book of Silence (by CaBaL)
oqhansoloqo replied to EisDrache's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Yes, with the newest version of the Content Addon  the bonemold hotfix is completely overwritten by it, though like TorNyan states about the flags - it shows the Overwrites & Overwritten flag even though there is nothing left in the hotfix that isn't overwitten. -

Not for me... I'm going to reinstall to check it. This is odd that it is different amongst us. EDIT: Oh crap... I have version 1.2 of the Content Addon. I didn't know it got updated to 1.9 like the rest of the AMB:BOS files. It happened 2 years afterwards, and just recently (well, in March...). This must be the issue. I'll report back, but that's gotta be it. -

I have all hotfixes and all parts of BOS installed separately. I do not get any other files in MO overwriting the bonemold hotfix. Nothing overwrites Magnus hotfix. Only a handful of files from Content Addon get overwritten (by Better Shaped Weapons). The STEP Extended Patch is an .esp file. It's not a .bsa... It is only a plugin. I'm a little confused with the quoted statements from Shadriss. -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
oqhansoloqo replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
If I were you, I would go and disable all mods first. Then I would enable about 10 at a time and run bashed patch. Then try to load the game and see that it works. Keep doing this routine until the game doesn't load - now you know that it's one of the last ten mods you just enabled. -

The instructions don't mention installing the "Bonemold Hotfix" either - should that be installed also? -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
oqhansoloqo replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Personally, I keep all of the mod archive packages (what you get when you first download a mod) stored on my computer somewhere even after installation - a non-SSD storage drive. I organize all of them into different directories (STEP, STEP Extended, Custom, etc.). My installed game and mods are on a SSD storage drive, btw. When I want to optimize textures for a mod, I take the installed mod's directory and run it through the whole DDSOpt process (though I do not re-archive). After optimizing, I just take the optimized product and throw it back into MO's installed mods folder. Then I rename the mod to add "(DDSOpt)" to the front part of the name so that I know that I altered the mod. That's how I do it. EDIT: So I don't have 2 separate installations - the original mod and then the optimized textures that overwrite... I just have one optimized mod, because I'd rather keep things cleaner with less overwrites and less space used on my SSD. -
I think it's quite more than just an upscale. Look at the mod's Nexus page at the pics provided by the author - find the one that compares the original giant face to his version. His looks so much better and it's not merely just some kind of noise or filter used to make it different.

It has to be comprehensive - one little mistake can make a huge difference to how things work. -
Cleaning the Registry on a new install

If you already have a registry cleaner installed, why not give it a go? I don't see how it could hurt. -
SKYRIMLE Civil War Overhaul (by Apollodown)
oqhansoloqo replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Any feedback on the current status of this mod? I see that it is now up to version 4.03. I reviewed recent postings on the mod's Nexus forum and it looks like a lot of people constantly posting about bugs and issues. I prefer to get some feedback and info from people here instead though. -
Awuful performance in New Vegas
oqhansoloqo replied to Audley's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
Would simply exiting the program, GE Force Experience (GEFE), before running the game suffice? Also, does this affect the game even if you have GEFE installed and running in the background, but don't launch the game through GEFE or select to optimize the game through GEFE (I have a message in GEFE for FNV that says "Game is not optimized"). I had assumed that GEFE was thus not doing anything to the game. Same goes for Skyrim, which is also recognized by GEFE. -
Awuful performance in New Vegas
oqhansoloqo replied to Audley's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
Is this required also in one of the .ini files?: bAllow30Shaders=1 EDIT: And are you suggesting that you are supposed to change the "[Number]" in Renderinfo.txt from "13" (that's what my number says) to "19" (will doing that actually affect anything)? Or are you supposed to change the shaderpackage019.sdp filename to "shaderpackage013.sdp" (or whatever number was listed in the Renderinfo.txt file)? I'm confused with your instructions. EDIT2: I've read that the game engine does not support v3 shaders and that it's not a good idea to try to enable them because it will end up with missing textures: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/fallout-new-vegas.122096/page-21#post-2071871 Is this true or not? -
The ini gives the DDSOpt rules about which types of (or specific) files not to try to optimize. Apparently (to me) over time STEP members and other contacts have played around with optimizing different Skyrim (and Fallout) textures and they have discovered that certain files do not optimize well, so the ini provides rules for those files in order to make sure that when DDSOpt is used that it works most effectively with as few negative consequences as possible. The author of DDSOpt stopped working on DDSOpt a long time ago, so having an updated DDSOpt ini file and updated DDSOpt batch files are currently ways to keep DDSOpt up to date.

Windows 10 - Overall Review and Modding
oqhansoloqo replied to TechAngel85's topic in Step Banter Inn
Like others are saying - tech savvy users will probably not get the Home edition. Forcing updates on what are most likely non-tech savvy users will help to prevent oblivious users' computers from becoming hacker resources. Good idea - force immediate security updates on the sheep that get preyed upon. -
SKYRIMLE S.T.E.P. Compatible Mods questions
oqhansoloqo replied to MasterKeef's topic in Step Banter Inn
Look for "Moonlight Tales Essentials" (MTE) - a slimmer version of Moonlight Tales that should be much more compatible with everything - this covers werewolf players only. You might want to possibly check out "Predator Vision" as well, if you aren't satisfied with the way Vampires or Werewolves see things in the dark. I personally use MTE. -

Crap - you're right. I got confused. Once DoubleYou mentioned "uiMaxAudioCacheSize", I kept repeating that. I mentioned that to Arthmoor too, but what I meant to say was "uMaxSizeForCachedSound" (as that's also what's in the USKP ini). Hopefully that's the one that Arthmoor was thinking about when he responded... Sorry about the confusion. -

I forgot to get back with you guys. Arthmoor basically said to me that the Unofficial Patch team has not gotten any reports from anyone regarding issues arising from lowering the uiMaxAudioCacheSize value to what it currently is in the USKP ini. Also, he is fairly certain that uiMaxAudioCacheSize isn't used by the music - a different system handles that. Also, in addition to this, he stated that issues with spoken dialogue in the game getting cut off on some people's setups is an engine issue and he is not aware of a fix for it, beyond seeing if reloading the game does the trick. -
You can start off reading the ENB Guide in the STEP Wiki: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB You will using more than ENBoost, if you are going to run an ENB, so you will have more to fine-tune and set in the ENB files. I don't remember which mods, but it's possible that some of the mods in the STEP Guide may have ENB options - like special installation options in the installer or extra files in a mod's Nexus file section. To narrow things down, I imagine that ENB could definitely affect mods that contain textures and might affect some mods that contain meshes (anyone?). You can see which mods you have installed contain these types of files through MO's "Content" column. Mods that contain BSAs are tricky, since Mod Organizer doesn't offer to display the types of content within BSAs (like, whether or not the BSA contains textures or meshes - it simply tells you the mod contains a "BSA"...). Please, if anyone else has more advice to add to this...

Skyrim Performance Monitor (by mnelson999)
oqhansoloqo replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Other Utilities
I found out that the main culprit was Skyrim Distance Overhaul (SDO). Once I uninstalled that my game speed performance (which includes the FPS) increased a lot. I guess it had to do with the extra details being loaded into a lot of LODs added by that mod. Hopefully when DynDOLOD replaces SDO it will run better, and not worse. -
The DSR patcher is not working currently (following STEP instructions). It worked yesterday, today it doesn't. I don't remember changing anything in my set up. It's weird because other people are saying the same thing on the Nexus forum for DSR. Anyone here having issues? I have Windows 7, and I do notice that I'm getting some bizarre icon in the Windows taskbar that is promoting the upgrade to Windows 10 and today is the first time I've ever seen it. This must be related, and perhaps the other people (talking about this issue on the Nexus forum) have Windows 7 also. EDIT: From criswolf09 on DSR Nexus forum - "Hello guys I have been having the same issues you had regarding MO screwing Skyproc Patchers beause one of its dll files is bugged. To solve this problem you must download the rar file of MO v1.35 and ONLY extract the hook.dll file and nothing else. Then place it inside the MO folder of version 1.36. That way you'll be able to use any java-based Skyproc Patcher like Reproccer, the one here, among others. Hope this helps." Worked for me. So it's a MO 1.36 issue actually, which I did just download very recently.

GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
oqhansoloqo replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
As far as dropping mods - are there any that drastically drop FPS and don't add something worth such a drop? For me, I don't think it was texture mods, it was something else causing drops in FPS. Been so long that I messed with FNV that I don't even recall what section of the guide the issues might have been in. -
The one thing I never thought fit (and this includes the other newer chimney stacks in Scarla's mod also) were the top slabs at the tip of the chimney. They look too refined. I think they should be made up of either coarser materials, smaller pieces stuck together, or both. I think it might look better. Also, if the clay pieces looked a little more worn in some way it might be better too - maybe some blackening around the top around where the smoke exits. They'd have to be pretty dirty with all that smoke... EDIT: Actually, it's not bad the way it is though.

SKYRIMLE Kill The Orchestra - By alt3rn1ty
oqhansoloqo replied to alt3rn1ty's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Interesting - so without your mod the USKP .ini edit (even yours, which is 2x larger than the USKP edit) may actually be too low? This information should be brought up to them (the USKP team) - maybe they can offer some info about it. EDIT: I just sent Arthmoor a message asking for some info about the .ini edit. -
