  1. Thanks, Tech. I've noticed users in the past asking about the "Come Together N Out of the Way" hotkey conflict in particular, since it is the most noticeable conflict (it shoots a visible spell). Also, I urge you to try the group hotkeys on your next playthrough! I've found them invaluable, myself. You can set F1 through F8 to automatically equip spells / items / equipment. I use them primarily to switch between different spells and equipped weapons. F1 can be two of your favourite spells (or dual-casting one), F2 can be more destructive spells, F3 protective spells, F4 healing, F5 sword and shield, etc. I'm pretty sure you can also have it swap armour and stuff as well, but I tend to use the same armour all of the time. I find the F1-F8 group hotkeys much easier and faster than going in the menu every time. Now I only do that if I have to use the odd spell or weapon not assigned to one of the SkyUI hotkey groups. Fair enough. Like you say, it shouldn't matter (regarding bashing) whether it deactivates or not as long as it isn't merged. My concern is that with the current instructions, WM Trap Fixes will be left deactivated at the end of the instructions, and many users will not know to re-activate it.
  2. Thanks for putting in all this work, Tech. Looks great. :-) I understand about not recommending specific hotkeys, as which hotkeys to use are user's choice. However, I think it still would be useful to mention the three conflicts with SkyUI on the SkyUI wiki page. Also, do you have any thoughts on the Bashed Patch issue I mentioned with WM Trap Fixes? I noticed on the WM Trap Fixes wiki that there is a note saying not to merge it, but from what I saw, whether you deactivate it or not at the prompt, it still won't merge automatically. Lastly, can I safely assume it'll take a day or two for the main wiki cache to sort itself out (kind of like messing with thread tags on the forum)? From the "recent changes" page I can see for example that you added a recommendation to Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch, but it doesn't show up under "Notes" on the main guide wiki page. Same with the "Loose" baseline recommendation for Burn Freeze Shock Effects. Etc., Etc. Thanks again, Tech. :-)
  3. Nice. I read in the SR:LE thread that the optional patch adds vanilla voice acting to Arthmoor's Paarthurnax Dilemma.
  4. Where did you see that Memory Blocks Log requires a 64-bit OS? I just read through the description on the wiki page and there is no mention of it.
  5. STEP Extended Patch is from the STEP Compilation.
  6. Wow, from the compares, Rustic Soulgems looks way nicer. They're not even in the same league! Thanks a lot, Nazenn. With Rustic Soulgems having the same sorting features, etc. as Soul Gems Differ, this looks like a no-brainer. Maybe I will have to add this one to my current playthrough after all. And here I thought I was done for this round... Lol. ;-)
  7. I think Memory Blocks Log definitely should be mentioned in the main guide's Troubleshooting section. As Greg points out, there is no current mention of this tool at all in the main wiki. When mentioning Memory Blocks Log, a link to the wiki page should be added. The wiki page could be edited with basic instructions on using Memory Blocks log to make things even easier for a user. I think this could cut down on the amount of support needed on the forums by a large amount. The first I heard of the Memory Blocks Log was from going into the Troubleshooting section of the forum, and reading Greg or someone else mention it as a useful tool. Since then, I have noticed using Memory Blocks Log is usually the very first troubleshooting step mentioned for crashes, and changing the associated memory settings ends up being the solution in many cases. Mentioning this tool in the guide itself would hopefully help more people to solve their own issues. [insert cheesy line] Knowledge is power! [/cheese] ;-) lol
  8. The missing information is nothing in the file itself; the missing information is metadata that MO creates based on recognizing the specific file on Nexus. This metadata is only for the purposes of MO - to be able to link you to the Nexus webpage, or tell if the version of the mod is out of date. It will have no effect on how the file behaves in the game whatsoever. The information collected for the metadata in "Query information" (Nexus ID and version #) can always be inputted after installation by right clicking the mod and selecting Information.... That being said, I believe MO initially creates the metadata from the filename of the archive being downloaded. Let's take an example of one STEP mod, Skyrim Redesigned (STEP wiki page here). STEP instructions ask you to do a few things with the file to get it working right in MO, but the part we are concerned with is the filename. This is the filename it recommends: Skyrim Redesigned-8954-1-0.7z "Skyrim Redesigned" is the title of the mod. It is important not to have numbers at the end of the title (before the Nexus ID) or it will confuse MO. I think the title is compared against the Nexus mod title if the filenames don't line up 100%. "8954" is the Nexus ID of this mod. You can always tell the Nexus ID by seeing what the numbers in the main Nexus page url are. For example, with Skyrim Redesigned, the url is: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8954/?Therefore, the Nexus ID is 8954. If MO has the Nexus ID, you are halfway home. "1-0" means 1.0. In this system dots are changed to dashes. This is the version number of the file. With the Nexus ID and version number, MO can read the Nexus page and compare the version number in MO with what the author has set on Nexus as the Latest Version of the file, and alert you if the file needs updating. To do this, right click on a mod, go to All Mods --> Check all for update.Note that these three pieces of information (title, Nexus ID and version) need to be in that order, and separated by dashes. For example, Skyrim Redesigned-8954-1-0.7z. When I manually download files, I always store a copy in the MO downloads folder. That way I can install and uninstall it, or even remove it, and not worry about having to download it again. I can search for it in the downloads tab as well. This works particularly well if you change the filename so that MO creates the right metadata. That way, you only have to mess about once (assuming the file doesn't get updated!). Download the file manually.Edit filename of archive.Open "[...]\Mod Organizer\Downloads" folder (located wherever MO is).Drag the re-named archive into the MO Downloads folder.Open MO, go to downloads, you should see it Anyway, if you still have some questions, please reply with a link to the file you are downloading, and let us know the process by which you are downloading it. Cheers.
  9. Change the name of the archive before moving the archive to MO's downloads folder.
  10. When MO queries a file, it does so by comparing the Nexus ID number and the text of the "name" in the file name. If MO asks you for the Nexus ID number, it will be the same number as in the url to the Nexus site. If MO has the Nexus ID number, but there are a lot of files on the page, sometimes it won't know which one to choose. To try and make MO pick intelligently, rename the file so that the text matches the filename (still retain the Nexus ID and version # in the name, though).
  11. I had the same sort of issues when I first installed MO again after getting a new SSD. Reinstalling MO, nothing helped. I was having driver issues at the time as well (after downloading all the latest drivers on a fresh Windows install), so I just re-installed Windows again, didn't download any new drivers except the video card, and MO worked fine. Not to say that your problem will require an OS re-install, but I just wanted to share my experience.
  12. Congrats, man! :-) Enjoy your honeymoon.
  13. The videos are out of date. New videos cannot be made for STEP each time STEP makes edits to the guide. I have never watched the videos, so I cannot speak to their content. But I tried a Merge Patch myself, and it looked like it was forwarding weird edits to a lot of files. It seems like it would require a lot of manual work to reverse some of the automatic edits. I saw more files that I would have to alter than files that were "good". It seemed like more trouble than it was worth. However, my xEdit skills are nonexistent, so take my example with a grain of salt. I assume this is why the xEdit Merged Patch is not in STEP, but I do not know for sure. I have not been around long enough to say if it was ever an official part of the process, although I assume it was at one point if the video contains mention of it. Could a STEP staff member shed some light on this topic for us? Also, RealShelter is not a part of STEP Core or Extended. I believe you are talking about the Frostfall addon...I don't think it works with the new Frostfall v3 at all, by the way.
  14. I recently installed STEP 2.2.9.2 Extended, and these were the bugs and inconsistencies that I noticed. From the top of the guide down: 2.C. Extenders - ENBoost The title "Configure" doesn't mention what it is configuring - this might be confusing for new users. It should read "Configure enblocal.ini".Under "Memory" where Boris' VRamSizeTest is mentioned, a note should be put in for Nvidia Optimus users. It should instruct Optimus users to go to the Nvidia Control Panel and select "VRamSizeDX9.exe" from the Program Settings drop-down box, then force it to use the "High-performance Nvidia processor" instead of the integrated card. (I never had an issue with ENB in Skyrim recognizing my Nvidia card, but the test tool would only show 1888MB before forcing it to use the Nvidia card. 4064MB afterward, and that is due to the Win 8.1 4GB cap.) I really pulled my hair out trying to figure out this one, even though it should have been obvious. The hotkey to Free VRAM conflicts with the hotkey groups in SkyUI (F1-F8). By default, the Free VRAM hotkey is set to F4: [INPUT] //f4 KeyFreeVRAM=115 This could be changed to something like F11 (which is beside the other ENB hotkey, F12): [INPUT] //f11 KeyFreeVRAM=122 A single button should do one thing only. As these are both Core mods, this makes it a bug, in my opinion. The Brute Force hotkey (currently "b") could also be changed to something more out of the way (which might prevent someone pulling their hair out if they accidentally press it), but "b" doesn't currently conflict with anything in STEP that I am aware of. 2.D. Fixes - Hearthfire Currently says it should follow Dawnguard in the left pane. It should say that it follows Cleaned Dawnguard ESM. (This is a result of the "first case" cleaning scenario, and I would say this happens the majority of the time. I have two SSDs in a RAID 0, and the "first case" scenario happened for me.) - Dragonborn Currently says it should follow Hearthfire in the left pane. It should say that it follows Cleaned HearthFires ESM. - Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch Currently no recommendation given. By default it will be placed after the High Resolution Texture Packs in the left pane, when it needs to be before them. - Guard Dialogue Overhaul The warning about not cleaning with TES5Edit doesn't look like it's necessary anymore. LOOT doesn't show it as being dirty. - XP32 Maximum Skeleton The last step in the FOMOD pictorial reads "Next" when it should read "Install". 2.E. Interface - SkyUI The wiki should mention the extender and the mod that conflict with the SkyUI group hotkeys (F1-F8), ENBoost (Free VRAM, default = F4) and Come together N Out of the Way (target NPC, default = F2), and a suggestion to visit those wiki pages for instructions to resolve the conflict. Or vice-versa, instructions on those pages to visit the SkyUI page for details. Also, it should mention a conflict with the default vanilla hotkeys: QuickSave = F5 A suggestion should be made to change the QuickSave hotkey in the Skyrim menu. 2.F. Conflicting Graphics - Static Mesh Improvement Mod The last step in the FOMOD pictorial reads "Next" when it should read "Install". - Skyrim HD Currently recommends to download the Landscape LITE main file. It is not one of the main files on the download page, it is an optional file. 2.G. Landscape & Environment - Skyrim Flora Overhaul The list of files to hide include these two files: textures\landscape\trees\treepineforestbranchcompsnow.dds textures\landscape\trees\treepineforestbranchcompsnowl.dds However, the list of files to hide do not include the normal maps: textures\landscape\trees\treepineforestbranchcompsnow_n.dds textures\landscape\trees\treepineforestbranchcompsnowl_n.dds I have noticed that every other time STEP asks the user to hide a texture that has an accompanying normal map, the normal map is also hidden. Was leaving these normal map files active intentional or an oversight? - Re-Defined Dungeons Missing the text: "This mod is not packaged correctly. When installing this mod, right-click on the Data folder and choose Set data directory. Okay [OK] to install." - Realistic Water Two Missing the text of which file to download above the FOMOD pictorial: "Download and install the Realistic Water Two v1_11 main file". The majority of wiki pages with FOMOD pictorials have either this instruction above the pictorial, the filename under the FOMOD Instructions header, or a Baseline specified. The last step in the FOMOD pictorial reads "Next" when it should read "Install". 2.H. Characters & Creatures - Better Beast Races Missing the text: "This mod is not packaged correctly. When installing this mod, right-click on the Data folder and choose Set data directory. Okay [OK] to install." - Better Freckles Missing the text: "This mod is not packaged correctly. When installing this mod, right-click on the data folder and choose Set data directory. Okay [OK] to install." - Birds and Flocks Missing the number of records removed by cleaning in TES5Edit. Cleaning with xEdit3.1.2 removes 50 ITMs. - Cover Khajiits There is no mention on the page that the male textures are already included in Better Males, which is a STEP Core mod. Therefore, only the female textures are needed to be installed. - New Children No mention is made of which file to download. "Download and install the children dirt skin update file". 2.I. Clothing & Equipment - AMidianBorn Book of Silence The Bashed Patch warning with the red background should be placed after the "Final Step" instructions. I am usually a very detail-oriented person, but I very nearly missed those final instructions the first time, as my attention was drawn by the red background (and I didn't scroll down far enough). This would make it more consistent with the rest of the wiki, as usually the warnings are placed right at the end of the instructions (if they are not right at the beginning). - Gemling Queen Jewelry Missing the text of which file to download above the FOMOD pictorial: "Download and install the Gemling Queen Jewelry - All In One Installer v4-1c main file". - Greatsword Sheaths and Scabbards Redux The filename under the FOMOD Instructions header is for the old version (2.7.1): "Greatsword Sheaths and Scabbards Redux NMM Installer". I assume this is not intentional, as there is no mention of the old version number for a baseline. The filename under the FOMOD Instructions header for 2.7.2 (the main file) should read: "Greatsword Sheaths and Scabbards Redux".There is no "Install" button on the FOMOD pictorial. 2.J. Animations & Effects - Burn Freeze Shock Effects No mention is given of which main file to download (BSA or Loose). This can be confusing for users, and one version should be recommended (or some text explaining why it doesn't matter). "Loose" is recommended as Baseline for another mod further down the list, Dragons Shout With Voice. - Deadly Spell Impacts The last step in the FOMOD pictorial reads "Next" when it should read "Install". - NoMaaM Breathing Idles The Baseline recommendation is non-BBB, however no mention is made of which file to download. As STEP is recommending this mod only for the breathing idles (and not the BBB), it makes sense to download the Female without BBB and Male Breathing Idles V0_1 optional file. It is also the only non-BBB file with a "download with NMM" link; the main file forces a manual download. STEP should explicitly recommend downloading the optional file just referenced, to avoid user confusion. 2.K. Clutter & Miscellaneous - Barenziahs Glory Missing the text of which file to download above the FOMOD pictorial: "Download and install the Barenziahs Glory v2-0 main file".The last step in the FOMOD pictorial reads "Next" when it should read "Install". 2.L. Sound - Better Animal Footsteps Missing the text of which file to download above the FOMOD pictorial: "Download and install the Better Animal Footsteps 1.5 main file". 2.M. Gameplay - Come together N Out of the Way The "target NPC" hotkey for Come together N Out of the Way (F2) conflicts with the SkyUI hotkey groups (F1-F8). Again, these are both Core mods, which makes this a bug. The hotkey can be changed in the MCM Menu for Nausicaa’s Tweaker. I made mine "n", for Nausicaa. - Skyrim-Community-Uncapper Missing the text: "This mod is not packaged correctly. When installing this mod, right-click on the Data folder and choose Set data directory. Okay [OK] to install." - The Choice is Yours Currently says to download and install all three main files. Now there is just one main file: The Choice Is Yours - Legendary. - Even Better Quest Objectives The wiki should also mention installing the 1.5.6.1 Patch. I'm not sure, but I think Ess included the Cutting Room Floor hotfix in the newest version of the STEP Compilation. However I think the main 1.5.6.1 patch still needs to be installed from the EBQO page, unless I am mistaken. 2.N. Patches - Bashed Patch Currently says for Step 4: "At the Deactivate these mods... prompt, click OK." Now with Wiseman303's Trap Fixes having the NoMerge bash tag, the Deactivate tag is also inferred as a result. This means it shows up in that deactivate pop-up window as well, albeit in a different pane. Whether you deactivate the mod or not, it will not automatically merge - it won't be in the list of merged mods after clicking OK in the deactivate popup. Therefore I suggest altering Step 4 to include a reference to untick WM Trap Fixes.esp. Alternatively, add a step at the end to re-activate it, if you let Wrye Bash deactivate it prior to making the Bashed Patch. - Fores New Idles in Skyrim Missing the text: "This mod is not packaged correctly. When installing this mod, right-click on the Data folder and choose Set data directory. Okay [OK] to install." - Dynamic Distant Objects LOD Under the Generate LODs section, Step 1 is: "Ensure DynDOLOD.esp is the last plugin in your load order." I think it is important to add in that step that the HighResTexturePack dummy plugins need to be ticked. To avoid confusion, it might be good to also mention ticking the Unofficial High Resolution Texture Patch. I was under the assumption for the longest time that DynDOLOD didn't need the HighResTexturePack dummy plugins ticked for the script, but Ess mentioned they still needed to be ticked in a post the other day. It is not 100% clear from the current instructions whether the dummy plugins that we are instructed earlier in the guide to untick should be ticked again or not for DynDOLOD generation. Any text explanation with the phrase "dummy plugins" should make things crystal clear for all users. Also, remind people to untick the dummy plugins after the DynDOLOD process is complete. I know this is a pretty extensive list, and I know how busy you guys all are with your own projects. If you like, I can edit some of this info in the wiki myself (if basic users are allowed to edit the wiki), assuming you concur with my findings. Just let me know. Cheers. :-)
  15. I don't use ENB (only ENBoost), but I noticed a few things. You mention problems with horses and followers...I see you have added at an additional horse mod and an additional follower mod, so there are possibly conflicts. Same with the rain...you have added a bunch of different storm mods, so there may be conflicts there, or if the ENB controls weather (again, I don't know anything about ENB). Also, I see you made a custom TES5Edit Merged Patch. What edits did you make? If you just let it automatically make the merged patch without inspecting it, I think it could do more harm than good. That's my guess why a merged patch is not in STEP, anyway. Lastly, Relighting Skyrim is awfully low in the load order. Might be the source of some of the light issues. Make sure the recommended STEP LOOT Metadata rules are properly applied to LOOT. Anyway, good luck! :-)
  16. Ogham, what does the Memory Blocks log say? There may be no need to change your "DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=" setting. Only running the log will tell you. Install the mod, and then read the log. The Memory Blocks Log ini file has two options for where the log is written afterward. Basically, running the log will either show that setting definitively to be the issue, or it will rule it out, which means you can look at other things to try and resolve it. Edit: Ogham moved his post.
  17. humanman, I meant to say skse.ini should be in a folder named SKSE. Anyway, take a look at the screenshots I posted, hopefully they help you. Also, be sure to follow the detailed instructions linked to from the main wiki page for each STEP mod. SKSE install instructions Make sure you extract the three files listed into the main Skyrim directory, then follow the instructions to install the SKSE scripts via MO. Tick the new mod in the left pane of MO, and follow the instructions to create the skse.ini (or install the pre-made one). The last screenshot in that album is a visual representation of that last step concerning the skse.ini. Good luck!
  18. If you setup TES5EDIT with this argument: -o:"C:\TES5LODGenOutput"Then the location for the output of the DynDOLOD TexGen script will be that folder: C:\TES5LODGenOutputYou could substitute that location in the argument for any other valid location outside of the Skyrim directory and it would still work. Just make sure it is a new folder. The files that end up in overwrite are not the TexGen script-generated files. They are temporary files created by DynDOLOD during the process. The TexGen script-generated files will be wherever you setup the TES5Edit argument for. Also, when you later run the DynDOLOD Worlds script, the folder that output will be generated to is the one you choose in the pop-up window. It has no bearing on the previous TES5Edit argument location, and in fact needs to be a different new folder.
  19. I think you are confusing the Skyrim official patch (current version 1.9.32.0.8) with SKSE, which is the Skyrim Script Extender. SKSE is required for many Skyrim mods, including DynDOLOD. Download SKSE (current version 1.7.3) from here: https://skse.silverlock.org/ Also, FYI Sheson, I just noticed the SKSE link on the Nexus page is linked to this: http://.silverlock.org/Which is a dead link, obviously. Also, the first post of the xEdit development thread at AFKMods currently links back to Nexus for the developmental FO4 version.
  20. I bet your skse.ini isn't in the right spot. It has to be in a folder named SKSE. Maybe this image will help:
  21. After making a LOOT metadata rule for RealisticWaterTextures.esp, and re-running LOOT, it helped a bit. However there is still a lot of orange. Also note that after doing this, RelightingSkyrim_Legendary.esp and ELE_Legendary_Lite.esp moved far away from each other in the load order. I do not have the metadata rule set for global priority, as there is no mention of it in the STEP guide.
  22. FYI, regarding the re-ordered masters: I sorted with LOOT just before running Wrye Bash to make the bashed patch. STEP 2.2.9.2 Extended with a few mods in testing on top. Using v2.2.9.2e of the STEP Compilation.
  23. I found a couple minor errors, due to me normally not running a standard STEP Extended install (I usually add some mods on top). I re-uploaded some images to fix. If anyone does notice any errors, please let me know and I will fix the description or upload a new screenshot.
  24. Settle down, Kross. I helped you in the thread you made earlier, and so did others. If you think following this guide is tough, try any other one. This one is laid out better and more thoroughly than any other that I have found on the web. The devs that create and maintain the guide don't get paid for this, you know... You are right about no photos of MO. I have made a set to hopefully help others. See this post: https://forum.step-project.com/topic/9568-step-extended-mo-screenshot-examples/ The guide is easy to follow...just make sure to follow the text. The videos are there to generally show you, but for obvious reasons can't get updated every time there is an edit to STEP. That is why you need to follow the text instructions. STEP Core is indicated by the green vertical bar beside the name of the mod on the left. To install STEP Core, only download those mods. To install STEP Extended, download every mod on the list (besides one or two which the instructions tell you are already in the STEP Extended Patch). Anyway, if you need any more help, feel free to ask politely on the forums, or even PM me and I will even help walk you through the whole process. But don't post a rant on the forums about supposed "inaccuracies" and saying "screw the guide" after everyone has tried to help you as best as they could. Lastly, I think you only posted here because you are experiencing missing textures, but you should not worry about DDSopt at all - custom optimizing textures is fairly complicated. Just download the STEP Optimized Vanilla Textures as per the option the instructions give you.
  25. ENB not being supported on Windows 8 or 10 means that Boris will not field questions about it on the ENB forums, or specifically address any issues. ENBoost (and I assume ENB in general) should work fine on Windows 8 or 10, and if it doesn't due to the DirectX issue mentioned above, download the DirectX file Tech linked to. You will know ENBoost is working if text shows up in the top left corner when you run the game. Edit: One ENBoost (actually Microsoft) issue regarding Windows 8 and 10 is the 4GB VRAM cap. You will notice this when running Boris' VRam Test Tool (the highest you will get is 4064MB, no matter how much VRAM and normal system RAM you have).
