This is fantastic, DoubleYou! FOV has always been one of my main head-scratchers when it came to the .ini settings. There is so much misinformation out there about these settings in particular. It will be refreshing to find out the truth behind them. I really look forward to seeing any findings that may come out of this. One question: While testing FOV settings, will you also be looking at the FOV "level of detail shadow switching" bug, as mentioned by JawZ in this post? This bug only seems to occur when FOV settings are changed, but I am not sure if it is in the scope of this thread or not. Thanks again!

ACCEPTED Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library (by DanielCoffey)
Nebulous112 posted a topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Discussion thread: Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library by DanielCoffey Wiki Link From the Nexus description page: - Textures : Original or Desaturated - Merchant Lists : General Merchants, Caravans, Fences, Jarl's Wizards, Orc Wisewomen, Urag, Brand Shei - Loot Lists : Cheap, Common, Valuable, Religious, Rare and Clutter - NPC Lists : Silver Hand, Vigilants of Stendarr, Bandit Wizards, Forsworn Wizards, Thalmor Wizards - Skill Books : One book for each skill has been hand-placed in the world - Book Hunt : First Editions Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library brings high quality covers in the style of Book Covers Skyrim to a very broad range of almost three hundred books from previous Elder Scrolls games and their expansions. It is a logical extension to Book Covers Skyrim and is fully compatible with that mod. Subjects range from light-hearted comedy, traditional poetry, plays, stories and legends to heretical diatribes, dark prophecies, cult agendas and insane gibberish. The new books will be found on Merchants of many types as well as on any NPC that you would expect to have books in their inventory. Similarly, any container that could previously provide a book will have a chance of the new titles. Many of the more esoteric books have had a single copy hand-placed in the world. Please be aware that the Merchants are not guaranteed to have one of the new books as the lists they draw from have a chance of no item. While a General Merchant is quite likely to have a Cheap or Common book or two, you would have to ask the Jarl's Wizards or the Orc Wisewomen if they are lucky enough to have any of the rare or valuable books. Members of the Thieves Guild with access to the Fences will find they tend to be well supplied. Urag in Winterhold is particularly well connected with book suppliers and Brand Shei in Riften has a specific interest that fits with his history. One book has been defined as a skill book for each of the game's skills and has been hand-placed in the world. Placement does tend to have a certain logic to it. While some are fairly easy to find, others are well hidden. If you are used to searching for rare items in Morrowind, you will feel at home here. Skill books will never appear in a Merchant's inventory or on an NPC. Many of the skill books will have an owner that you may have to become friends with in order to take the book without stealing. This seems like a great immersion mod to add in some books that we saw in past Elder Scrolls games. Made by one of the authors of the main Book Covers Skyrim mod, so the added books should blend in nicely with everything else. Shouldn't conflict with anything, but a bashed patch is a must. I propose this mod be added to STEP. The desaturated version would match the original Book Covers Skyrim mod. Does anyone have any thoughts on this one? Edit: Edited thread to change the mod in question from Tamriel Compendium to Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library, per Neovalen's post below. The Lost Library is a much better and more complete mod, updated more recently, and is made by one of the same authors as the main BCS mod. No doubt this is the one that should be up for consideration. -
SKYRIMLE Jaggarsfeld Extended (by TechAngel85)
Nebulous112 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mod Author Topics
Yeah, that's an unfortunate situation. Hopefully they get in touch one of these days. Once they see all the work you've put into it, I have no doubt they would hand you the keys and tell you to drive. Regarding the expansions, I look forward to the update in the new year, then, whenever you find the time. Reading about the planned library got me thinking. Since it seems to fit so perfectly with being a collector's library (holding one of each book in the game), I'm wondering if it's possible to implement any scripts for the library to help such a collection. Such as automatically alphabetizing the books on display in the bookshelves, for instance. I'm not sure if something like this is even possible, much less easy enough to pull off to be worth the effort. But it would be neat. :-) -
ACCEPTED RUSTIC MONUMENTS and TOMBSTONES (by SparrowPrince and Gamwich)
Nebulous112 replied to rootsrat's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
This mod looks great. I think monuments and tombstones are things where you would really notice the higher detail. I think I'm going to add this to my new playthrough, for sure. Has this ever been considered for STEP? -
SKYRIMLE Can't Install STEP Patch
Nebulous112 replied to Gagacycy's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hi Gagacycy, welcome to the STEP forums. Your English is fine, by the way, much better than my Portuguese! It looks like the information in that link needs to be updated. The current list of requirements can be found on the first post of of the STEP Compilation thread. -
SKYRIMLE Jaggarsfeld Extended (by TechAngel85)
Nebulous112 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mod Author Topics
Jaggarsfeld Extended looks great! It looks like you've put a lot of work into this, Tech. I'm excited about the expanded library. That is my favorite new feature. The Elder Scrolls Wiki list of available books shows there are 409 books available to the player in vanilla Skyrim, not including spell tomes, recipes, journals or letters. The Tamriel Compendium adds 177 books. This totals to 586 books, leaving 8 spots remaining. Or, if you do not use the Tamriel Compendium mod, there is still room for all Spell Tomes and Journals to be put in the Library (totals 592, leaving 2 spots remaining). Spell Tomes (93 total) Journals (90 total) Recipes (28 total) Letters (?) I've always wanted a full library available to me in one home. I personally would never store journals, letters and recipes with the library. They go in a separate drawer, or chest. I might with excess Spell Tomes, but with some spells only available once in the game (and being used upon reading), it could never be "complete". It doesn't really make sense in my mind to keep them in the library anyway. I think I may use the Tamriel Compendium, and even then I will still have room for all "normal" books with the new library if I use this mod. -
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I found this quite useful. It looks like Druid's Den will be getting an update to v3.0 in the next few days - fully re-written by icecreamassassin, the same author as Legacy of the Dragonborn (Dragonborn Gallery). I've always wondered about getting Legacy of the Dragonborn to work with STEP. (Calling all you pack authors! lol) Legacy of the Dragonborn seems like the ultimate collector's house museum. However, Druid's Den might be the next best thing. There is also a thread in the Mods page linking to Lakeview Manor Evolution. This seems like a pretty neat house as well. Does anyone else have any suggestions for great Skyrim houses, preferably ones that work with STEP (Extended)? It would be great to have some new input, considering it has been a year and a half since this thread came out. There is a STEP pack that may be of interest: Player Homes, however at first glance this doesn't seem like what I, personally, am looking for. I figure a home should be fully HearthFire-compatible, nav-meshed, etc. with a ton of storage, and crafting stations don't hurt, either. Basically, I figure a modded player home should have at least as much functionality as the vanilla homes, not less. Anyway, any new ideas / recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks! Edit: Oh, and to reply to the previous post (a little late!), Legacy of the Dragonborn was the exact mod that MagnusThorek was looking for.

SKYRIMLE Provincial Courier Service by Arthmoor
Nebulous112 replied to rootsrat's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I think this would be a neat mod to try out. However, I'm not sure about recent compatibility. MO shows no file conflicts, and from what I see in TES5Edit, there isn't a whole lot. I know for Immersive Citizens, there is a patch for this mod. Are there any other major conflict issues with STEP Extended I should be aware of? -
Civil War Quartermasters (by BlackPete) From the description on the Nexus page: This looks like a neat little mod to add what should have been there already. It only makes sense that every military camp would have a quartermaster. It also shouldn't conflict with much, if anything with STEP Extended.

Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - pre 2.xx
Nebulous112 replied to sheson's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
Hi Sheson, Pardon my ignorance, but I am wondering about the Unofficial High Resolution Patch. I looked through the manual, but it has no specific mention (all of the other Unofficial Patches are mentioned). I run a STEP Extended setup. Using Mod Organizer, I normally have the .esp's unticked for the Bethesda High Resolution packs and the Unofficial High Resolution patch (MO managing archives). I understand that I can (perhaps should?) leave the Bethesda High Resolution Packs unticked when running DynDOLOD, as you have already taken them into account. However, I am wondering if I can (or should) leave the Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp unticked as well. I just want to verify I am not screwing something up (or if DynDOLOD is missing the UHRP changes) by leaving them all unticked in the plugin pane (as I normally would). I'm also curious if it would screw something up to have them all ticked anyway (if somehow having duplicate references could cause issues). Anyway, thank you for your time. DynDOLOD is one of the key pillars that make a modded Skyrim special. :-) -
Spock, by "live and let live" I was referring to your sarcastic appeal for fascism. I am a mid-twenties, heterosexual, Caucasian male living in one of the most conservative parts of Canada. I have worked construction jobs in the past. If one believed stereotypes, I should be the among the first assumed to be racist, chauvinist and / or homophobic. However, I am not any of those things. I have no issues with Canada's large amount of immigration from non-Western countries, as long as they possess a basic understanding of English or French, or are willing to learn (Canada offers taxpayer-funded language training). Many people I know get frustrated or make fun of others who have a heavy accent. This is something I don't understand...I learned as a child never to make fun of someone with an accent, as they undoubtedly know more languages than I do. I have no issues with homosexuality...gay marriage was legalized in Canada years ago. Of those people whose sexual orientation I am aware of, I don't know many that are gay, but I've never even thought of it as an issue. I had a man hit on me once, and I told him that I was flattered, but I swung for the other team (lol). Why do I care who someone sleeps with? Why is it even my business? I just don't understand what the issue is. As far as chauvinism goes...generally, there are many things women do better than men. Generally, there are many things men do better than women. But why generalize? On an individual basis, it is not logical. For one example, any of the women participating in the UFC fighting could easily beat me up, and I am a fairly well-built man. I believe very much that work and school should function as a meritocracy. If someone is better at a certain job than someone else, it should not matter whether they are a woman or a man, old or young, white or black or purple. This seems fairly obvious to me. This also includes my belief that if you are 5'1 and 100-lbs. soaking-wet, and happen to be a woman, I'm not going to hire you as a firefighter or bouncer. The same as I wouldn't hire someone with a heavy accent or stutter as a dispatcher. The same as I wouldn't hire any man for a job looking after the dressing rooms at Victoria's Secret. Again, this seems obvious, but some people take the notion of "equality" too literally. And don't even get me started on the whole notion of seniority vs. merit. If you cannot tell, I am not a typical cheerleader for unions. ;-) I do not care about the influx of different religions into what is a historically Christian-dominated culture, which in more modern times has been fairly secular. Practice whatever religion you want, as long as you do not prescribe violence. I do not even mind people knocking on my door to proselytize, as long as they understand that "no, thank you" does in fact mean "no, thank you". I am agnostic - some others without faith seem to hate religion, and make fun of those who practice it. Again, I do not understand this...if a religion makes someone else happy, who am I to deny them that? I guess what I mean by "live and let live" is that why should I worry about other lifestyles when they do not affect my own, no matter how different? I am not gay, but why should I care if gay people get married? Or if a gay nightclub is being operated in my city? It doesn't affect me. I am not religious, but why should I care if a new mosque or a Morman temple is being built near me? Or if a Jewish private school teaches the Torah alongside the government-prescribed curriculum? It doesn't affect me. I am only fluent in English, but why should I care if people are having a conversation on the subway in a language I don't understand? Again, it doesn't affect me. I'll live my way, and let you live yours. If everyone felt this way, I believe there would be a lot less hatred in the world. I only (consciously) negatively discriminate against others when their lifestyle does start to affect me. Violent religious extremists, and most criminals, for example. I did not mean my "live and let live" comment to be analyzed with respect to the homophobic comments referenced in the OP. I disagree utterly with what was said, as should be obvious from what I've already written in this post. However, I do understand that there are cultural differences between Western nations and Russia which make the comments more understandable than if they had come from a Westerner. I will expand on this below. I think it is naive to believe that we can prescribe morality for the world. I too believe that morality is subjective. However, it is important to make the distinction between individual morality, and state-imposed morality (laws). They do not always match up. I would define an individual's morality simply as his conscience. And a person's morality is flexible. For example, I do not condone stealing. However, if my child was starving, I would have no moral dilemma in stealing a loaf of bread to feed her. State-imposed morality I would simply define as law. I am uneducated in the field, but it seems to me that laws are simply rules that a society has agreed to live by. In a democratic society, if a majority (or a sizable minority) of people change their individual perspectives on the morality of a certain issue, this usually leads to changes in law. Civil rights legislation, and the legalization of gay marriage are examples in Western countries. Canada has just elected a Prime Minister who campaigned on the legalization of marijuana. Why would the Prime Minister change a law to allow what was in the past considered a harmful drug? Because polls have showed the majority of Canadians want to see marijuana legalized; the majority no longer consider smoking marijuana an immoral act. No matter what the state-imposed morality (or law) says, one can always choose to follow their personal morality if it conflicts. There may be repercussions, but there is always a choice. Even if someone has a gun to your head, you can always choose to take the bullet. Not to say that I would in that circumstance! But the choice is there, if your belief is strong enough. However, like the said gun-to-the-head scenario, it is also obvious that any state-imposed morality has a heavy influence on an individual's own subjective morality. One always needs a baseline reference for any value to have meaning, and the reference for an individual's morality is the culture one is brought up in as a child. If I'm brought up in a racist household in the deep south of America, unless I am exposed to other cultural stimulus I will probably be racist myself. As was mentioned earlier in the excellent conversation of this thread, Russia is a very conservative place. Their laws reflect the values of the majority. While I do not agree with some of those values, I think interfering in a negative way can cause more harm than good, and will lead to push-back against "outsiders". Lead by example, but do not demonize those whose views you find ignorant or simply idiotic. It is useless; you will never change their mind this way, and you will only put their back up against the wall. I feel this is where America has gone wrong with public policy. You can positively influence a culture through exposure. Espouse the benefits of your way of living, and try to have a rational debate as to why your way of living is better. However, you will never change the minds and hearts of people by force; people have to choose to change. You cannot get an alcoholic to stop drinking unless he wants to. Similarly, you cannot force a racist, anti-semitic or homophobic culture to change as an outside agent. Culture is influenced from the outside, but it only truly changes from the inside, and until people within Russia change the mindset of their peers, state-imposed homophobia will remain. Putin's actions against homosexuality may seem wrong to us, but to the Russian people, I am sure they perceive his actions as perfectly moral and justifiable. I think many people fail to take perspective into account. I firmly believe that most people will act on what they think is right, in the vast majority of cases. I doubt Putin considers himself immoral. I doubt the majority of Russians consider him immortal. Yet most Westerners do. However, cultures evolve, and I am sure in fifty years the mindset of the average Russian toward homosexuals will be different. Thankfully. :-) Lastly, I just wanted to add a quick blurb on the whole genetic / cultural origin of homosexuality debate: I think everyone can agree that attraction is subconscious. I don't make a conscious choice to find many red-headed females attractive. Or those with certain accents. Etc. Yet I do find these traits attractive. Whether this is genetic, or through cultural influence, I do not know. Attraction for me (as a heterosexual) is a subconscious reaction, therefore I assume it is the same with homosexuals. Cultural or genetic, we do not choose who we love. However, I am fascinated with epigenetics, and I wonder about their role in sexuality, as I wonder more generally about the role of epigenetics in our lives. I am no academic, but I believe more and more that science is finding how we live can affect our biology in ways that standard genetics doesn't account for. For example, the possibility that a period of starvation can affect tolerance to dietary pressures for generations. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/07/150731105240.htm Edit: General editing for clarity, word-choice, punctuation, etc.

Mod Recommendations?
Nebulous112 replied to Aeralisk's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I have installed some new mods outside of STEP Extended since my last post. - Better Jumps (by meh321) - Blocking Animation Pack (by 5poiler) <--- Replaces mod Dual Wield Blocking Animations - Deathbell HD (by fadingsignal) - DRAUGR (by Kajuan) <--- Replaces Draugr option in mod aMidianBorn's Book of Silence - Creatures options. - RUSTIC MONUMENTS and TOMBSTONES (by Gamwich and SparrowPrince) <--- SMIM option in FOMOD - Wiseman303's Flora Fixes (by Wiseman303) <--- Also download SMIM Patch and Clams Drop Pearls Patch - Understandable Draugrs (by Pandora) Links are to the STEP forum pages for the mods. Instructions assume STEP Extended install. -
FYI, the package structure for this mod is different from the norm. There are two data folders...one for the Dual Wield blocking animation and one for the One-Hand / Two-Hand weapon blocking animations. This makes it easy if you just want to install the dual-wield portion (to replace Dual Wield Blocking Animation by Daljo). However, if you want to install both portions, you will have to open up both file structures completely at the MO install prompt. Shift-click to highlight multiple files, and move all the animations from the one animation folder to the other.

SKYRIMLE Invisibility Eye Glitch Multifix (by jimkaiseriv)
Nebulous112 posted a topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Invisibility Eye Glitch Multifix (by jimkaiseriv) This is a possible replacement for Invisibility Glitch Eyes Fix (by KingsGambit), which is currently in STEP. From the mod page: This seems like the best of both worlds, and it would be the preferred option if it works like it says. The only downside is that the current fix is a master for the STEP Compilation. -
Is that you, Donald Trump...? LOL I agree, life is too complex for a binary world view. This is why we have subjective, as well as objective thought. Live and let live, I say.

It should not be merged in the bashed patch. With the "no merge" bash tag it should automatically not merge. It will also be inactive after the bashed patch, but you should re-activate it. The ESPs which the bashed patch merges should not be re-activated. -
Please see this post: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3508890-potential-database-breach/ Might be a good time to change your password, folks.

Mod Recommendations?
Nebulous112 replied to Aeralisk's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
The only mod I've added so far to my 2.2.9.2 STEP Extended install is Understandable Draugrs. I think it'll be a neat addition, and it doesn't conflict with anything at all. You probably already have, but I'd also recommend just browsing down the Mods forum listing, and see if any catch your eye. If they are in the main forum (not Mod Anthology), they aren't in STEP. Quite a few neat mods in there, but they may need patches or manual conflict resolution. Others, obviously, are total replacements for mods currently in STEP. -
Click the wrench icon in MO, go to the Plugins tab and click Basic diagnosis plugin on the left and double-click true next to check_modorder and change it to false. From the STEP MO recommendations page. :-) EDIT: Ninja'd! Lol Also, if you manually install a mod vs. downloading it with an NMM link, it won't automatically be in the downloads folder to re-install. This means it won't be in the Downloads tab either. Is this what you mean?

DSR needs 32-bit. Did you follow the instructions on this page? Not necessarily the FOMOD recommendations, but the others. https://wiki.step-project.com/Dual_Sheath_Redux

[ Q & A ] Using FNIS with Mod Organizer
Nebulous112 replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
What does the error look like? Have you tried posting in the Nexus thread for Fore's help? -
It also wanted to name mine the same as the textures by default. Once I started typing the name, a few different preset names with the word "Compilation" came up in the drop-down box. Edit: However, I was kind of expecting it, because optionals do the same thing and they are on the same Nexus page. So it didn't really catch me off-guard, but I could see how it might catch others.
