Sounds like either the downgrade patcher didn't work properly or you don't have Backported Extended ESL Support installed. Try the Backported mod first and see if that solves the problem. If not, try the downgrade patcher again. In either case, if you have been using AE version 1.6.1130 or 1.6.1170, you will need Backported mod, because Bethesda changed the way ESL files work.

Will Better Dynamic Snow SE work with Skyrim Terrain Parallax?
ButchDiavolo replied to Surfwater401's question in General Skyrim SE Support
I am not sure what you mean with "this mod"? If you mean Bethini, then yes and no. Bethini gives the optimal game ini settings for a STEP installation. And those stetting are spread all over the game, so it affects many mods. The Bethini section of the STEP Guide gives more information about what most settings do. -
What LODGen Resources Can Be Discarded?
ButchDiavolo replied to bchick1's question in DynDOLOD & xLODGen Support
It sounds like you don't quite understand what the different programs do. This is from the STEP Guide about when to re-run the different programs and gives a bit of insight in what they actually do: So each program has different purposes. They all use different resources during LOD generation. Apart from the generation file mentioned in the STEP Guide, you should NOT disable or discard any mods or data after generating the LODs. The generating file is clearly stated in the Guide and gives direction as to how you should install and use those: This file you keep disabled during game play, but enable during xLodGen generation, and ONLY during xLodGen generation. Again, you should not discard/ delete any other files. -
Will Better Dynamic Snow SE work with Skyrim Terrain Parallax?
ButchDiavolo replied to Surfwater401's question in General Skyrim SE Support
Yep, that should work fine. I just remembered: despite appearances do NOT use the "Improved shader" mentioned in the Visuals section of BethINI. The guide already doesn't include it, but one might think this has to to with parallax. It doesn't. At all. Only tick the "Projected UV diffuse normals" in the snow section as directed. -
Will Better Dynamic Snow SE work with Skyrim Terrain Parallax?
ButchDiavolo replied to Surfwater401's question in General Skyrim SE Support
As far as I know only version 2.11.0 works with the multipass shaders. @TechAngel85, is this still true? -
Hmm yeah, you picked a bad time to start Skyrim again. Bethesda suddenly woke up and started patching Skyrim again. Apparently the only good thing to come out of that is the ability to use more ESL files. The rest is fluff or fixes that have already been fixed YEARS ago by various mods. And the latest patch is just to benefit their latest money-grab Creation Club. Lord knows what else they have up their sleeve. My personal opinion is to start with STEP 2.2.0 and Skyrim version 1.6.640. Most mods for 1.6.640 are still available. And play Skyrim with Steam in OFFLINE mode, so it can't sneakily update to the latest version. For mods that are no longer available for 1.6.640 you can do a simple google search and find them online. Most usually on Reddit. But double check to see if the site(s) you download them from are reputable and not scammers. You can download Skyrim version 1.6.640 in the steamdb. I posted a "how-to" in the forums. You may have to install the latest version first though and then downgrade to version 1.6.640. In that case you have to also install Backported Extended ESL Support, so the downgraded Skyrim can work with the updated ESLs. And always triple check you have the correct version of mods. Or... you could wait until this all blows over again and mods are back were they were before Bethesda did a thing again.

Will Better Dynamic Snow SE work with Skyrim Terrain Parallax?
ButchDiavolo replied to Surfwater401's question in General Skyrim SE Support
Yes it does. In the case of snow/ snowy landscapes, terrain parallax uses a different kind of shader. It is still early here, so I may be remembering it wrong, but regular Skyrim uses a single-pass shader and terrain parallax uses a multi-pass shader. And the two are not compatible. So if you want parallax snow, you will need a snow mod that supports the multi-pass shader. Parallax snow texture mods are pretty much all compatible. The difference is in the snow meshes and shaders. You need parallax enabled meshes and said multi-pass shaders. There are two mods that I am aware of that use the correct shaders for terrain parallax: Better Dynamic Snow V2.11.0 (NOT v3!) and Simplicity of Snow. There is also a Patch hub specifically for the affected projectediffuse shaders, which has a whole list of patches for snow and terrain mods. So recapping, you will need: BDS V2 or SoS A parallax texture mod, either snow specific or terrain. optionally a patch for your preferred texture mod. -

Can't patch file, it doesn't match the expected format
ButchDiavolo replied to TarkusLover911's question in General Skyrim SE Support
Calm Your Titties, oh young Padawan. Since you were updated to the new Skyrim, Skyrim now expects the new ESL file format that was introduced in 1.6.1130, even after downgrading. Thankfully Nukem made a mod that takes this into account, for people who are using versions up to 1.6.640: Backported ESL Support. Download and install this. -
Unfortunately Arthmoor doesn't keep "outdated" versions of the Patch. You can only download the lastest, which is for 1.6.1130

Skyrim updated to 1.6.1170

BTW, still no sign of patch notes specifically for the Steam version, so I guess no fixes for the issues they introduced in 1.6.1130. I am shocked. -

Skyrim updated to 1.6.1170
ButchDiavolo replied to ButchDiavolo's topic in General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support
The update is already on Steam, but the Steam specific patch notes are not there yet. Judging from the above, this update is geared towards the implementation of the new "creations system". Hopefully the update for Steam will include fixes for the issues introduced by the last update. -

Well, I had a look at what EdgeUI should look like. It looks really good. I can see why you would want to have that. And you are right that DDDM's compass is overlaying it's compass. I can also see why you came to STEP for help. The mod author isn't very forthcoming with install instructions (install- and loadorder?!) or help. AND he puts the latest update under a paywall, which he claims under the mod that he would never do... Things that makes me go "Hmm". Anyway, as the MA so, um... helpfully, says on patreon: "Something doesnt work..blabla oblivion icons..blabla UI is vanilla? - Its almost always the wrong LO or you dont have the requirements" (sarcasm off). So let's try putting EdgeUI below all other UI changing mods, which includes things like CoMAP, CNO, etc. If you are using the STEP install categories, place as last in the "Interface" category. Then check in-game if that solves it. If it doesn't, try moving it even further down, like just before the xLODGEN, TexGen and DynDOLOD output files. Then check again. If that doesn't solve it, you can try hiding the .swf files that are apparently being overwritten in game. Like the compass.swf from DDDM/CNO or the DDDM-CNO patch and see if that helps. if it does, go very carefully through all the .swf files which are used by EdgeUI and hide the competing .swf files from all other mods, so that just the ones from EdgeUI remain. Hopefully this will make the UI work as it should. If not, then I am afraid you will have to contact the ModAuthor and ask for the best install/ loadorder.
