  1. I don't want to annoy you, I just got a little bug/question. - [STEP] [Screenshot] [DynDOLOD] LODish looking wall fragments behind Riften, according to the editor ID it comes from DynDOLOD! I first noticed those fragments before adding any mods on top of STEP and I'm not having anything similar with any city. I've checked the ID of the wall fragments in TES5Edit and it only listed DynDOLOD.esp as cause. Since first noticing the bug I have run DynDOLOD about five to ten times but the problem never disappeared. I'm using the STEP recommended medium setting. Do you have any idea how I can fix this respectively how I can avoid getting this when running DynDOLOD again?
  2. In my last build I was using Perkus Maximus on top of an already huge modlist. When I tried to run the Patchus Maximus for the first time, I got a Java error (stack overflow or out of memory, I'm not sure anymore). After some fiddling and trying a new Java version I asked Google and eventually ended on the page I've posted above. The true man is the guy behind PerMa and the Wiki After that I added ASIS, encountered the same problem, tried the same solution and it worked fine. /edit @Neovalen Those arguments apparently are only needed to fix memory overflow with proccers like ASIS and Patchus Maximus. Memory overflow apparently only occurs when having huge modlists or one of few mods installed that manage to kill the memory limit on their own. Most people won't need the fix, I did.
  3. I know your problem with a high probability as I had something very similar with PerMa aswell as with ASIS 1) Go to Mod Organizer and click the gear wheels 2) Click on ASIS (same applies to the PerMa patcher, this is why I know the problem aswell as the solution) 3) In the "Arguments" line, add -Xmx1024m -jar BEFORE the path to your ASIS file 4) Add "-NOSTREAM" AFTER the path to your ASIS file 5) Run it again and be happy that Java isn't running out of memory anymore This is how the entire "Arguments" line should look like in the end: -Xmx1024m -jar "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mod Organizer\mods\Perkus Maximus - Maximum Perk Overhaul\SkyProc Patchers\T3nd0_PatchusMaximus\PatchusMaximus.jar" "-NOSTREAM" Just adapt the path to your ASIS file and you should be fine. At least I hope so. This is the source.
  4. I assume its a replacement for REGS adapted to current SRLE for two reasons. The introduction says "The SRLE Explorer's Edition is a spin-off project of A Real Explorer's Edition to Skyrim (REGS), catered specifically for Skyrim Revisited: Legendary Edition." And REGS itself is pretty outdated and not even fully compatible to STEP anymore. Also, the creator of REGS recently announced to abandon his Pack as he ran into time issues and as STEP recently added mods with known conflicts with REGS core mods (JK's Cities vs Immersive Citizens for example).
  5. With the blocks set to 512/256, this is the log created when I just tried to load my savegame, which resulted in an instant CTD after the loading screen. Perhaps there's something wrong with the save?! I'm gonna start a new game then.
  6. Sounds similar to my setup. D'oh, already deleted it. I'm gonna try that and do another testrun, using my old savegame.
  7. Hoping for "yeah, I know that one, all you have to do is changing value X in your ini file"... After installing STEP 2.2.9.2 and REGS 4.0.6 (modified) on top of it, I started the usual testing routine I do after installing a few mods. That means starting a new game, visiting as many places/things modified/added by the most recent mods as possible and playing at least three hours in a realistic way, not using cheats other than "tmm 1". While all the tests before (after each (!) section of STEP aswell as five times during REGS installation) were without CTDs/freezes/infinite loading screens, this time, after finalizing the REGS installation, I encountered serious issues. 1) First, after creating a character using Alternate Start, I chose the owning property start in Whiterun. Everything worked fine until I left Breezehome, about one second after the loading screen was finished and I could already see Whiterun appearing, I crashed to the desktop. That CTD unfortunately is not replicable. Here's a video. 2) Then, after creating a second character, everything went fine and I've played for about three hours without any real issues. However, when I eventually was in Riverwood and tried to use the carriage (Better Fast Travel) to Whiterun, I ended up with an infinite loading screen. Noticeable: - This was the first ILS I've ever encountered - Better Fast Travel worked fine for the last ~12 hours of testing it - I've waited for about 8 minutes to outrule a not gamebreaking but only annoying two minutes loading screen - The smoke, text and objects usually visible during loading didn't show up - My HDD LED didn't blink - Music and effects were still playing Here's a video Now, unfortunately, I got no idea how to determine which mod/step during installation/whatever is causing my problems. I've already checked if the SKSE memory thing is working using that Memory Log plugin. It correctly showed block sizes of 512 and 256 MB like written in the SKSE.ini and the maximum number on the left side, during swimming in the Solitude Docks (using Better Docks) was roughly 400 MB. So that shouldn't be the problem. What confuses me is that the last section of REGS only contains quests and dungeons. The one located near Riverwood was already tested before and didn't cause issues and I've been to Whiterun before in the same testgame so that shouldn't be bugged either. So... could it be that both events were totally random and I was just lucky that I didn't encounter them in earlier test sessions? Cause that would make finding the cause way harder... You can find details about my installation in my signature link (Benchmark...). /edit Another CTD after playing 30-60min, shortly after using a quick travel carriage from Heljarchen Hall (house not bought or built yet) to Rorikstead, immediately after I started walking in Rorikstead. Strange: the carriage obviously wasn't from Better Fast Travel but vanilla as a dialogue was missing and travelling was free. I was using the savegame that ended with the infinite loading bug described above, so the time was on top of the about 3 hours.
  8. Allright, I'm gonna ask the console about the ID of his clothes the next time I'm running the intro then.
  9. Thank you very much JawZ. Especially for the snow thing, I just assumed that was a bug as I couldn't believe to see such a low quality texture after all these texture packs from STEP. Now I'm undecided between Real Snow (which looks gorgeous but demands for Better Dynamic Snow, which seems to interfer with tons of mods, looking at the sheer number of compatibility patches available for BDS) and Fresh Fallen Snow (which doesn't look that good but seems to be as compatible as a mod can be)... As for the cloud edges, the next thing I'm gonna install is Vividian ENB (including Vivid Groundfogs and Clouds) and CoT, so that problem should disappear by itself. As for the LOD stuff, I was already afraid this would just happen "because Skyrim". TechAngel, I know that many of the issues are somehow connected to the Skyrim engine and not directly related to STEP, I just copypasted everything I've noted during installation as I wasn't really sure and didn't want you to miss a bug (respectively miss a known solution to a bug). If you're in for some Sherlock Holmes detective work however, feel free to click on the Benchmark link in my signature, there I've listed all bugs I've found so far, including weird ones from outdated REGS.
  10. I'm using the STEP Extended Patch and haven't had any issues choosing it from the Compilation installer, thereby assuming everything was right. Yes, I was installing REGS on top of it so it could also be Interesting NPCs or Inconsequential NPCs (don't know if they change clothing?!) but it appears as Starfield got a pure STEP installation.
  11. Here's my contribution after about a dozen hours of testing. - [STEP] Classic distant mountain flickering - perhaps fixed by future use of ENB [Video] - [STEP] Kill scenes play too often and especially after unworthy enemies (rats, wolves...) - perhaps I'm gonna use Combat Drama Overhaul to fix this [Video] - [STEP] Extremely low quality looking snow overlay texture everywhere, was present since the beginning of the STEP installation [Screenshot] - [STEP] Sky colors are off during fog, drawing the mountains way whiter and brighter than the sky behind them [Screenshot] - [STEP] Horizon bug, where the transition between ocean and sky is a blurry mass [Screenshot] - [STEP] Sigrid in Riverwood carries a bucket that clips through her hands and body [Screenshot] - [STEP] High grass is popping in and out when in 1st person and walking through it backwards/forwards - guess that can't be avoided?! [Video] - [STEP] Sometimes loading screens don't show objects but instad black stripes crossing the steam, thought it was ENB related but it isn't - perhaps Lore Based Loading Screens? [Screenshot] - [STEP] Sometimes very low quality grassy textures on nearby mountains, looks like a LOD texture that forgot to change to a normal one - DynDOLOD? [Screenshot] - [STEP] Edges of cloud textures look very low quality - should be fixed by using CoT in the future [Screenshot] - [STEP] Ranlof got clipping hands in the intro scene, when the game chooses long sleeved clothes for him [Screenshot] - [STEP] LODish looking wall fragments behind Riften, origin unknown - according to the ID this could be a conflict involcing Cutting Room Floor? [Screenshot] While the above were first noted when testing a pure STEP installation, the following ones were first found while already installing REGS so they could be connected to either STEP or REGS, I'm not sure. - [REGS?] Found two Vigilants of Stendarr walking through the wilds that looked exactly like each other and had the same clothing - a NPC mod's fault? [Screenshot] - [REGS?] Very rare but present texture clipping problems near roads [Screenshot] - [REGS?] One CTD after creating a character, starting as property owner in Whiterun, immediately after leaving Breezehome - not replicable! [Video] - [REGS?] One Infinite Loading Screen after 3 hours of gameplay, when trying to take a Better Fast Travel carriage from Riverwood to Whiterun - the smoke didn't show up, waited for 10 minutes [Screenshot]
  12. Clipping issue confirmed. Just ignore that body stump in the foreground, that belongs to another bug (Enhanced Camera?) I try to solve and only occurs during the intro scene. Probably not connected to STEP itself as I first noticed it after installing Live another Life and the first mods of REGS (back then it only happened when getting off the cart) and it got worse after finishing the REGS installation (see screenshot).
  13. I've just thought the same. "Getting away with crimes is now more challenging: guards who make the remark "Wait... I know you" will force the player into dialogue. (Violent crimes will get the "stand fast" dialogue.) Depending on your options, exiting this dialogue may be considered resisting arrest." and "The greeting distance for all NPCs has been greatly reduced so that you almost need to physically bump into a guard in order to be caught." Could conflict with that STEP Bashed Patch entry, wouldn't it? Other than that, very interesting mod. While testing my STEP and later REGS builds, I've again noticed that the bounty system is really off. 50 bucks for stealing a top notch horse? Paying my immense fines - and still get forced to the prison just to be let go again immediately? This is just dumb. Would be nice if someone skilled could look over the mod and check it for compatibility. I've just seen that it is compatible with GDO at least and that NARC is even recommended.
  14. Redone everything from scratch using STEP 2.2.9.2, adding REGS 4.0.6 on top. During the installations I tested the game for roughly a dozen hours and didn't have a single CTD or freeze. What I did with REGS was basically - replacing JK's Major Cities with JK's Cities Lite - not installing Immersive College of Winterhold (author has set it to hidden) - going through literally all mods and installing literally all compatibility patches I could find - not installing the REGS patch for the STEP extended patch What changed from STEP to STEP+REGS? - performance impact (intro scene) was minimal - JK's Cities Lite provide a good performance in cities - Almost no oddities caused by IC vs ETaC/JK, all I could find was a hovering blacksmith in solitude - ETaC, as usual, eats up fps, but that is known and I would have used ETaC anyway - I got random stutters, feeling like the game saying "wait for half a second, I'm gonna load something", but they're rare so I can live with them and they tended to go away as soon as I was using an ENB in the past As for the last point (not installing REGS patch for STEP), what would you recommend? Ignore it as it is totally outdated and probably incompatible with some of the stuff added in STEP 2.2.9.1 and 2? Or use that USLEEP script that replaces the USKP dependency with USLEEP and use it as it is still essential? Would be cool to get an answer to this from CJ2311 but perhaps someone else is experienced enough to answer instead of him?! Thanks in advance! /edit For the very first time since beginning the installation of STEP I got a CTD. New Game > Create Character > Own Property in Whiterun > Leave Breezehome > CTD Could this be connected to the missing patches?
  15. As mentioned above, using both would be the most immersive way! :)
  16. I assume your problem lies buried here. A new profile doesn't prevent your ENB from running as it was placed manually into the Skyrim main directory. I could imagine you got a conflict between your SkyrimPrefs.ini settings (perhaps not set up for anything more than the ENBoost from the STEP guide) and your old but still running ENB preset. Or, while again following STEP, you've mistakenly replaced the d3d9.dll, enblocal.ini and enbhost.exe with the ones from the ENBoost package while not deleting the remains of your ENB. I guess you're talking about those high resolution esps. Should indeed be optional. However, you can safely deactivate those esps as they are only needed when not using Mod Organizer. They should have a little yellow broom icons basically saying that you can deactivate them. "Have MO manage archives" lets MO take over control about how to handle BSAs in general and MO basically replaces the function of the esps. That's at least how I understood it. About STEP_Vanilla_Optimized_Textures, I got two of them and they're named S1 and S2 instead of P. Also, they're both activated in my setup. Maybe an old version? About your CTD, unfortunately (?) I haven't experienced one in that stage of the game, for me it either worked or crashed directly after the loading screen. Dumb question: Instead of days of investigation, why don't you just start over again? Completely reverting Skyrim back to Vanilla, keeping nothing than some BSA files, deleting the Documents\My Games folder and everything? I would assume that would be faster.
  17. I only chose the WAF-R one and didn't run into problems during ~10 hours of testing since then.
  18. Awesome, thanks. I've ran into several of these patrols-standing-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-instead-of-walking bugs, I'm gonna update as soon as I've finished testing the current iteration of my mod build. :)
  19. Thanks alot JawZ, that's what I call convenient! Worked like a charm!
  20. So, as both mods say "no known conflicts with other mods", are they safe to use together? So that everyone is a stranger to me until I talk to him (respectively try to talk to him in the case of non dialogue NPCs)? And then they all get immersive names?
  21. As soon as I've finished my modbuild (so much more to do there) I'm gonna start the military start using CWO and I'll record everything to catch some impressions from the epic battles aswell as from the bug side. I think something like that is needed as CWO gets way too much hate.
  22. So what would be the solution for a noob that only knows how to "use" TES5Edit from the STEP guide? Should I temporarily download and install USKP, load RBB into TES5Edit, rightclick USKP and remove it as master via menu? And afterwards save the altered file and remove USKP as it isn't needed anymore? That easy?
  23. Someone should do an official "Houses of Skyrim" PACK. Just in case this should actually happen I've recently tested a ton of house mods with my STEP+REGS install. Unfortunately I killed that installation in favor of 2.2.9.2 and a clean rebuild, I just hope I got a screenshot or something from that list somewhere. I've read all the descriptions and discarded lore unfriendly houses like flying ships and free castles while testing the rest. - Halamshiral (neat magician hut between Solitude and Morthal) conflicts with Oblivion Gates, I would recommend to remove the latter as the textures look off and they'll probably conflict with other house mods too - Something not directly related (not Eagle's Nest or Hinters Cabin Riverwood) destroys some of the changes from ETaC near the entrance of Riverwood, was unable to nail it down, one should always check this area when testing new house mods - Some of the bigger house mods got patches for compatibility with ETaC, I've done a list of all available patches for all mods that are not included in STEP so they whould be listed there (ask me for it if you want it) - Verdant Grass with world edits leaves most houses alone, some of them got minor clipping issues and few (Aspen Manor for example) are completely sunk into the ground, regardless of the load order. One should not use this version of Verdant when using more than a few wisely chosen house mods - Hunters Treehouse is the only known house mod conflicting with Skyrim Bigger Trees - ...more to come if I find that list again.
  24. Thanks. If it is exactly as stable as XP32 I think it would be a good addition as it offers the same functionality with way better compatibility regarding other mods. :)
  25. SSDs are not only way faster and almost a MUST HAVE today (who wants to wait for his OS to boot longer than 15 seconds anyway?!) but in a Notebook they got another advantage. In contrast to HDDs, that hate vibrations and hits, you can almost throw your SSD at the wall while it is running. Plus: no moving parts mean less power consumption, so an SSD always adds a few minutes to the battery time, in case of my old Netbook it was even ~20 minutes. So there's no actual reason to not have an SSD. Get one. Period. Two remarks about STEP: As my benchmarks have shown 2GB of VRAM should be enough for the complete setup. Also, DynDOLOD will thank you for an SSD. I already need about 40 minutes for this - WITH an SSD. Now imagine having a HDD. :p
