ACCEPTED Weapon and Armor Fixes (by kryptopyr)
GrantSP replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Really minor, almost petty, change to the fomod instructions for this mod. Last screen in the installation is a checkbox for the Readme file. Makes no difference to the install which you choose but there might be some new users that are really unsure what to do so maybe we can just add it in whether to choose it or not? -
Well same issue with this mod that I saw with Double-cursor fix. Since we explicitly say STEP users MUST install ENBoost there seems little reason to keep this mod in the list especially when the wiki and the guide have this to say regarding it's use: Either ENBoost is mandatory and these small mods are superfluous or ENBoost is an option in which case these mods can stay. Logically ENBoost stays and these smaller mods go.
-
Okay, I'm actually installing the complete STEP guide for the first time, yeah I know - a bit late. I'll be making notes and asking questions along the way as I'm tackling this with the idea of viewing it as absolute n00b! So, this mod is left in and marked as Core yet it says it is redundant due to the use of ENBoost. My question is this: Since we are saying this on the ENBoost page: Why are we then giving users the option to NOT use and thus need to have this mod as described in the STEP guide with this comment?: This sounds confusing and pointless.

[ Q & A ] Using FNIS with Mod Organizer
GrantSP replied to GrantSP's question in Mod Organizer Support
I just installed this to see what's happening and you are correct, the behaviour files are being removed. This should not happen. Best idea is to let @fore know about it, perhaps he can shed some light on the matter. In the meantime you will have to re-install this mod everytime you update your FNIS output. -
True. Update is an implicit dependency, however for the sake of argument, my comment is still true. Using xEdit to clean a DLC you can "Select none" then select only the DLC you wish to clean and then all the other plugins it needs will be loaded as well. The right-click on just that DLC plugin and "Apply script for cleaning". I have never seen, nor experienced, the need to select Update.esm along with the others for cleaning. The point about cleaning plugins in the correct order however is one that should always be highlighted. Very important to do them in the order they should be.

Just found another interesting piece of information as to why my current system won't run it. One of the dialogues that shows when I try to execute these files has a link to a SecuROM page that says this: As I have a Skylake CPU this would be the cause of my issue. I'll investigate a fix. Edit: Well that took more than I'd like. Seems I did have an out-of-date BIOS and the new one, after successfully flashed, allows me to use these older executables on my chip. I can't however do without the Microsoft Live residing on my system even after using the disable tool, all that does is remove the entries on the menu. I am still prompted to have the xlive.dll whenever I run FO3 with G4WL uninstalled. So at least FO3 is now installed and running.
-
Those messages only show if you are trying to get Windows to 'Autoplay' the install disk. At least that is the result I saw when I installed this on my new system. If you open the drive in explorer and run "setup.exe" it proceeds as expected. Edit: I'm now getting these messages after FO3 is installed and the solution seems to be "install G4WL". However, even after doing so I can't get FO3 to launch and when I try to disable G4WL these messages return. Edit: Can't start game to generate INIs so I create new ones by hand. Still can't start game. Run G4WL disabler, informed all is good and yet still can't start Fallout3.exe. Circular solution is offered. Install G4WL to remove messages, try to start game and fail, disable G4WL, still fail with original message. Strange how my updated Win10 system can install this but my clean Win10 fails. Time to purge and retry.

There is no need to select any file for cleaning other than the one you want to clean. xEdit reads the 'Header' of every plugin you load and IF that plugin needs another to load, ie. as a MASTER, then it will automatically load it for you. Is there any difference in the outcome if you manually select Update along with the plugin you want to clean? No. You have only done what the xEdit would have done by itself. Long story short -- @Gopher doesn't know all the "ins and outs" of every tool. (Still a very fine YouTube creator though.)

You Can Now Open NXM Files Using Multiple Programs
GrantSP replied to Uhuru's question in Mod Organizer Support
Welcome to STEP @Cheeka Since you read the post by @thebluebridgetroll can I assume you also read my post that followed it? The instructions to use NMM for Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and MO for other games is there. You simply need to ensure the games you want handled by NMM are correctly shown to be doing so, as I gave the example for. -
Help with strange Lens Flare and dxgi.dll error
GrantSP replied to Sarcasm's question in Post-Processing Support
The last user that asked about DXGI error messages found it had something to do with SweetFX in an ENB. -
Correct Place to Ask How Determine MOD(s) Stopping Compilation?
GrantSP replied to aba42's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Let's address a couple of points immediately. Firstly you should acquaint yourself with the STEP Community Citizenship Guidelines found in the link at the bottom of every page. Take special note of the "double posting" point. Now to the matter at hand. Cleaning your ESMs and your belief that BSAs are being extracted are two completely different and unrelated matters. The fact you have all your cleaned DLC ESMs in on mod in MO's left-hand pane matters not one point. It is fine. LOOT will order the plugins so that "NO problems will arise". The fact that the order is sometimes different is also not a problem. It just means there is more than one way to order the plugins with no issues. If the matter about "Unzipped BSAs is giving you grief just uncheck the option in MO and re-install these mods" BSAs and ESPs are very different things. Whether or not your BSAs are extracted will have no bearing on the number or order of your plugins (ESP/ESM). I think this is best course for you to take. Now that you have reset MO to NOT extract BSAs, just reinstall those mods that had them and match your setup to what is provided. One last thing about the order of the mods as presented in MO's left-hand pane. IF the mod is only providing a plugin(ESP), it MAKES NO DIFFERENCE where that mod is ordered in MO's left-hand pane. All that is doing is providing that plugin for the game and the order it is used is set in the right-hand pane and is generally managed by LOOT. Another tip about the BSAs and other mods that provide textures/sounds/meshes/etc.If the BSA is not extracted then the order it is loaded is set by the 'Archives' tab or the plugin that loads it. If the mod provides 'loose' files for those things you have greater freedom to select which ones you want or don't want. That is why guides will SOMETIMES ask you to extract them and then later ask you to hide/move/delete specific files. If you are not asked to do those things, then don't worry about whether you have loose files or a BSA. -
You could always ask @DarkSexyLady to do it!
-
Good call. I hadn't actually installed it yet. Glad you mentioned this, I just mentioned to a user the need to learn how to user MO when they complained about this behaviour. Now I can go back and edit my comment to reflect the true nature of this tool.

Optional ESPs Not Showing under Archives Tab w/ MO Manage

"Settings" -- 'Reset Dialogs' If at some point in the past you were asked to unpack them you were given a chance to have this done automatically with a checkbox, this resets that. -

After Installing BirdsHFclean, run TES5Edit, Nothing Happens
GrantSP replied to aba42's question in General Skyrim LE Support
The xEdit log is fine. MO is tricking xEdit into seeing the "real" data structure even though it is loading from MO. The 'backup' folders likewise are also fine. The rule with MO is this: IF a file exists, ie. it is active in the left-hand pane, then MO will see it and the tools you use, in this case xEdit, will work on those files and edit them and create a backup in that folder. IF the file DOES NOT exist, e.g. the DLCs, then the edited files need a place to be saved and MO sends them to "Overwrite". As for the original problem of xEdit appearing to not load. Sometimes the initial window is minimized or sent behind MO's and you will need to alt-tab to get to it. That's a Windows oddity. -

Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition causing game fail to launch?
GrantSP replied to Fauwyr's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Cleaning them only removes ITMs & UDRs, don't worry about the navmesh messages. -
Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition causing game fail to launch?
GrantSP replied to Fauwyr's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Navmeshes & HDDs! I don't immediately see the connection but in general, no. Not sure where you're going with "missing navmeshes". Where, how, what are you doing that leads you to think you have some? -
Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition causing game fail to launch?
GrantSP replied to Fauwyr's question in General Skyrim LE Support
That's a good thing! All this is doing is providing a visual alert to the user saying: "Hey did you know this file is replacing another one? Is this what you want?" In this case, yes, this is what you want. Mouseover the red lettering and it will tell you this file is also found in 'Unmanaged: Dragonborn' or whichever DLC you examine. -
Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition causing game fail to launch?
GrantSP replied to Fauwyr's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Check to ensure the BSAs are actually loading in the 'Archives' tab. In 'Settings -- Workarounds' check the option to "Force enable game files". This will ensure these ESMs & BSAs never get left out. -
Thanks.

Mod Organizer 2 Discussion and Feedback
GrantSP replied to TechAngel85's question in Mod Organizer Support
For 'downloads and 'mods', I suggest "My Documents" For your application settings, sure AppData is fine. The wording of the post implied that 'downloads' and 'mods' would automatically go here. If this is not the case then that's good. I think it's safe to say that these days users are wanting to store large files, such as mods, on drives that aren't SSDs and the ability to designate where to save your files is mandatory. Since it looks like that is the path that MO2 is heading, all is fine in the world again. -
As a new AMD GPU user I'm still coming to grips with alot of settings on my card. So may I add in a couple of Radeon specific questions? Where/how do I adjust DoF on the Radeon Settings? What is "Virtual Super Resolution" and should I use it? The blurb in the app describes it this way: Sounds good but possibly with a hit to performance?

All over the place. At the moment I have a bunch of "Republic of Gamers" wallpapers on rotation from Wallpaperswide.com. Monitor. TN. :O_o: Oblivion. Pre-cursor to Diabetes. Used to favour AVG but last few years I hav just relied on Windows in-built tools and see no reason to change.
