ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Main Quest (by cdcooley)
GrantSP replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Hey @cdcooley what would be the chance of adding FISS support to this mod? -
What does Dyndolod.esp do?
GrantSP replied to Jailhouseblues's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Note this response to a similarly worded question in the DynDoLOD topic. As a reminder, questions posed about a specific mod or tool will generally be answered quicker/more correctly if asked in the topic that is dedicated to that mod/tool. -
How to deal with conflicting files?
GrantSP replied to RadikulRAM's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Conflicting files is 'part and parcel' of the modding process. The simple act of installing one mod is, in itself, an act of introducing a conflict. You, the person installing the mod, have decided that a change to the vanilla game is needed and therefore introduced a change to the game. What I'm saying here is that "conflict" isn't a bad thing, as long as it is conflicting the way you want it to. Now since you use the term "unmanaged:" I'm assuming you are using MO as the tool to manage your mods. That being the case, installing Skyrim Realistic Archery will never install files that are "unmanaged". That mod is one of the simpler mods around and consists of just one plugin (esp/esm) and a few INI files. None of these will conflict with existing files and only the plugin, when loaded will edit specific records in the game. Perhaps you are seeing other changes in your modding process due to some other steps you have taken? Aside from files provided by the game itself, no other mods installed should be "unmanaged" and if you are seeing them your management process is flwed and you are not using MO correctly. ie. installing mods from other sources such as Steam or manually. -
Okay, so I've moved this topic to the General section as we are now moving away from diagnosing an ENB issue. So to establish where we are now, you can safely run the game with no errors or crashes and certainly no Windows Event Viewer logs? If yes then I suggest you slowly and systematically follow the STEP guide and install each mod in turn and after section, when it asks for a benchmark, run the game and check that no errors occur. Feel free to report back here after each section is completed. Based on your previous stint I strongly suggest you limit your time in front of the computer to avoid any minor slip ups that might come back to "bite you on the backside". Having just installed the guide from top to bottom myself only days ago, I can assure you doing it this way WILL provide you with an error free game.

[WIP] Mator Smash
GrantSP replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
In this Bash Tag Zip there's another zip file inside the settings folder called "Bash Tags". What does this contain? tags for Skyrim or the Oblivion ones you mentioned? The rest of the tags look identical to those in the 0.2 release so I'm a little confused on their purpose. Those in the included zip that is, not bash tags in general. -
What is the standing with making a FISS version of the various plugins that should need one but will probably never get one? Does that constitute a new mod or will that violate Nexus/mod author rights?

[WIP] Mator Smash
GrantSP replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Possibly but boy, the functions that are in there are really good. -
When you were following the STEP guide, you are following the guide? It's been so long since the first post I can't recall, anyway the guide says in the MO instructions wiki to create a new profile in MO. This will mean there is another profile called 'Default' that contains NO mods and is just the base vanilla game. Perhaps you can spend a few minutes acquainting yourself with the MO guide as a means to take your mind off this issue? Some of the things we are mentioning are indeed to be considered 'basic', such as how to change MO profiles.

ACCEPTED Skyrim -Community- Uncapper (by Elys)
GrantSP replied to skwareballz's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
That's what I was thinking. If we show basic "rules of thumb" ie. slightly boost the preferred skill and degrade those skills that result in spamming XP and reduce the skills that we don't specialise in. So instead of, or in addition to, providing pre-made INIs, we can have the wiki say: Boost your desired skills by 10% Reduce non-preferred, but used skills by 50% Massively reduce spammed skills to 25% Your points on the level at which the rate changes are right on the money. That's an area that can only be developed by players that have been through the level machine 100s of times. I defer to your knowledge on that matter. -
[WIP] Mator Smash
GrantSP replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
So... are there any pre-defined settings included in the install? I note the changelog says there is now a game specific folder for them but everything is empty. Following the tutorial video shows it already populated with some basic 'bash' settings. -
No need to stand on formalities with me, Dragon Lord is just what I get my minions to call me, GrantSP is fine for everyone else. It seems daunting doesn't it? Don't worry, we aren't 'fobbing you off' (I hope that idiom translates well, I know what it means here in Australia.), we're trying to eliminate all the areas where there are NO problems. What you have provided so far has been somewhat helpful and I think we can say the INIs and other setups are fine. I'm very worried though about the crash reports from TESV.exe (the game itself). In the Steam client open your library to Skyrim and 'right-click' the game and select 'Properties'. In the dialogue that opens click the 'Local Files' tab and then click the button to Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Any problems with the base game files will be examined and new files will be installed. Nothing will happen to all the mods you have installed. Let us know here what the result was. Best way to check afterward is to change your MO profile to one with just the vanilla files and run that, if all is well then we can re-visit the mods.

GrantSP replied to skwareballz's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Good question. I figure there are certain "types" of characters that we all play at some time. I was thinking of setting up some settings to have these types of characters: Archer/hunter: focuses on bows and alchemy with little use of big weapons and armour and very little magic Soldier/merc/brawler: all the weapons and armour he can get and has no use for magic. Quite capable of making a sword if asked Pure mage: no armour and now weapons except for maybe a dagger and lots of magic and alchemy. Enchanting is of course a big plus Scholar: alchemy heavy with light armour and weapons and a little magic. Doesn't get their hands dirty so no weapon armour crafting Thief: light armour weapons and perhaps a little magic and alchemy If we can provide broad strokes to show how to minimise leveling where we don't want it, and maximise it where we do. Your points in the wiki about changing the rates at certain levels were interesting, I'd not thought of that until you showed how it might work. If we can also show the better ways to progress with that, that would be good. -
It's easy to get confused with these things. Just remember MO is "tricking" the game into seeing the files where the log says they are, even though they are actually installed somewhere else. MO is a very different mod manager to anything else, it isn't surprising it takes some time to get your head around it. As @Nebulous112 says, it is all todo with the so-called VFS.

Load a blank profile with just the vanilla assets in MO and run that. Any issues?
-
Delete the one in the Skyrim installation and change the MO one to read this: [Display] iTintTextureResolution=2048 [General] ClearInvalidRegistrations=1 EnableDiagnostics=1 [Memory] DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768 ScrapHeapSizeMB=256
-
Just a heads up. The header values do not necessarily have to match those set by the SKSE.ini, if mine are anything to go by. My SKSE.ini has the first block at 768 yet the log shows only 512. Changing that initial value to 1024 results in the header showing 768. Clearly the header shows the next step down from that which is entered.

@aba42 May I remind you of the STEP Citizenship Guidelines. Take note of point 3 under the heading of "Posting". We can all appreciate you want to get your game up and running but just curb your enthusiasm and allow us to attend to matters. The event log reports are of no use to us here, we are modding forum and they will possibly be of better use by a Microsoft support team, if such a thing exists. However they do look like you have issues with the executable. Try a verification through Steam to acquire a new one.
-
Make sure the SKSE.ini is the one found inside the SKSE Scripts mod, or another mod of your choosing, that is loaded from MO. Although technically it shouldn't make any difference, after my recent install of the complete STEP guide I only had an INI in the Skyrim install, not loaded from MO, and although it had the correct settings to avoid a common ILS problem, incorrect memory settings, I was getting an ILS. Only after deleting the one in Skyrim and loading one from MO was I able to start the game. As I say this shouldn't make a difference but it did for me. Maybe you too.

Sorry SRB, I already had a Copy.com account from a while back. The only reason DropBox was used here was it is sync'd to my phone.

TES5Edit Errors Sorting Masters on WryeBash Orange File
GrantSP replied to aba42's question in Wrye Bash Support
Firstly I think the error message is due to an out-of-date script: wbDefinitionsTES5.pas, used by xEdit and thus failing to find the function, but more importantly I think you might find the last comment in this topic enlightening. With regards xEdit and any tool that leverages it such as Mator's tools or DynDoLOD, be sure to use the latest scripts, usually found in the archive of those tools or on the xEdit GitHub repo. -
I finally found out about this "public" folder everyone is talking about. According to DropBox, accounts setup after October 4 2012 no longer have this folder and instead employ a 'Share link' system. Unfortunately that involves me manually adding individual email addresses to each folder I want to share. DropBox Pro or Business accounts still use that method but my basic account does not. Some DropBox links. What is the Public folder for? Enable Public folder How do I disable or enable the public folder for members of my Dropbox Business team? Clearly I must use Copy.com.
