Although it is common practice for tutorials to say to add WB to the Steam folder, there really is no valid reason to do so, aside from keeping everything closeby. WB will draw all the needed information about the game(s) it is used for via registry settings so it can be safely installed anywhere, thus avoiding these folders clogging up otherwise 'vanilla' installations.

Thanks. Just as well it wasn't a case of 'new guy breaks things'.

Bring out your dead merging problem
GrantSP replied to Yippee38's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
Since nothing is changed in the mod except the listed masters, it seems a fairly reasonable thing to do. Just changing the file and not renaming it to 'Legendary', now that would be odd. -
I'm getting confused on something I'm trying to do on the MO wiki page. I added two more images to the gallery, one from the Nexus page showing the main window with a Dark theme and another of the settings from the main MO guide. No matter what I do the Dark themed image will not show as part of the gallery and insists on loading in a full tab. What is wrong with this? Are there size restrictions or something?

You Can Now Open NXM Files Using Multiple Programs
GrantSP replied to Uhuru's question in Mod Organizer Support
Okay that places the issue with FF. You'll need to open FF's settings and look for the place where associations are set. Probably a tab labelled: 'Applications'. Look for the protocol named: 'NXM' and either change it to NMM or remove it and then use FF and navigate to a Nexus page and try to initiate a download. You should then be presented with a dialogue to choose which application to handle those. -

SKYRIMLE Real Shelter - Full Release (by Robinsage)
GrantSP replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Post from @Chesko on the Real Shelter Nexus page. Quoted in full below. So, it will be both interesting and sad to see the change of hands on this one. I for one thought the whole xEdit scripting process of this mod was a stroke of genius. I guess @ThreeTen finally succumbed to the endless posting of: "Why can't this be easier to install? What is xEdit and why do I need it? Help, I don't know what to do?" Or the biggest issue: "Why is it still raining in <insert place>" -
Mod Organizer is not working with BOSS
GrantSP replied to Snarkyfork's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
Unless this installation of MO is for Oblivion then you really should be using LOOT. Even then it's only a few die-hards that feel BOSS is better for that game. I personally feel LOOT can do just as well. Anyway to the topic at hand. LOOT is actively maintained, BOSS is not. This means most newer mods will have to be added into the correct order more when you use BOSS compared to LOOT. As for issues with LOOT. Any issues you feel you might be having can easily be rectified with meta-rules. Much easier than BOSS. Of course some users feel LOOT isn't managing their load order well simply because it doesn't "look" right. Unless you can identify specific issues when examining that order with xEdit, then there are no issues. -
S4N you are a genius! User name contributions did it. I guess that's why you get the big bucks! Oh wait...

With all of the different wiki pages for the various STEP mods it makes it cumbersome to search for entries or do history searches. Is there a way to search across multiple wiki pages and/or do a history search for recent edits across them? As an example I made a change to one description to highlight the word "Merge" in the instructions for a mod. Later I realised the method I used should actually have been to use the UI template instead of adding an 'important' highlight template. Do you think I can now find that page? :O_o: Thanks
-
I just assumed those changes were necessary for functionality. I guess I was wrong.
-
If you hadn't noticed the addition of these new elements at this stage, it may just be better to continue this play-through without them. There really shouldn't be any additional overload to stress your system to CTD, but you never know. There are only textures and sounds added, so no scripts or plugin references missing.
-
It would be nice if there was a plugin inside MO to check for newly installed BSAs and ask if you want them 'checked' for you. Sadly I can't see that happening as the next iteration of MO is moving away from this pluginless archive management and the entire "Archives" tab is, in fact, removed.

Care to elaborate more on these 'extras'?

CTD at Launch w/ SKSE and Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition patch
GrantSP replied to Fauwyr's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm not sure any such 'patch' exists or would be necessary. Could you elaborate on what you did? It's okay if it was only user error, everyone makes these but it will help anyone else that might find this topic in a search to know what you did. -

How to get Wrye Flash to pick up LOOT bash tags?
GrantSP replied to DanielCoffey's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
I concur with your assessment of the Blackened Patch. When I had a working FO3 setup before and I looked at the patch I wondered those same things but did nothing further with examining why. Mator's Smash is, as @Kelmych says coming along nicely, and it may well pay us to all examine how well it does things since I feel it will very soon eclipse Wrye Flash, and its brethren, when it comes to patching. -
The "name" of the mod installed in MO is irrelevant as the game never sees that, all that is important is the existence of a folder called: SKSE and an INI inside it called: skse.ini. Of course this is in addition to a folder called: scripts that contain the actual scripts.

TES5Edit Error 3.1.2 Editing is disabled. Check the message log...
GrantSP replied to aba42's question in xEdit Support
Are you installing just the Core features of STEP or going with the Extended set as well? If you are going for Extended then when you install Even Better Quest Objectives, you disable the installation of the optional plugins as they are handled by the STEP Extended Patch. There should not be: BetterQuestObjectives-CRFPatch.esp, BetterQuestObjectives-NECPatch.esp or BetterQuestObjectives-PaarDilemmaPatch.esp in your load order. -
TES5Edit Error 3.1.2 Editing is disabled. Check the message log...
GrantSP replied to aba42's question in xEdit Support
This entire forum is structured in such a way that specific questions should addressed in the topic that is set up for it. Since your question is about xEdit (the Skyrim version is called TES5Edit), you should post these queries in that topic. I have moved it for you. Now the error message is a generic one which tells you the load order is not correct, ie. a plugin is trying to load before a master that it relies on. Are you sure you have ran LOOT on your profile and applied it? Holding your mouse over the plugin in MO provides you with all the information you need on that plugin, the same info that WB will tell you. BetterQuestObjectives needs only the vanilla masters and USLEEP. -
[WIP] Merge Plugins Standalone {PUBLIC BETA}

Excellent, all you need to add now is an ini to handle user's stupidity and this will be perfect! -
[WIP] Merge Plugins Standalone {PUBLIC BETA}
GrantSP replied to Mator's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Seconded. I too have difficulties distinguishing colour combos sometimes. The greater the difference, the easier the distinction. -
NPCs frozen in place sounds like the FNIS patch you have in the second profile was made with mods that you have de-activated. All patches, not just FNIS, will need to named profile specific and re-done for each new profile.

You Can Now Open NXM Files Using Multiple Programs
GrantSP replied to Uhuru's question in Mod Organizer Support
Shouldn't make any difference. Making an edit with one will pass on the changes to all. I have 5 entries in my nxmhandler.ini: Oblivion Fallout 3 Fallout NV Skyrim Witcher 3 Running NXMHandler from any installation and dragging the Oblivion entry down below the Fallouts and then running it from another installation shows the same result. Bizarrely I found I only have 1 nxmhandlers.ini on my system and all the other instances are reading that one INI! It appears the nxmhandlers.ini is only created in the first installed copy of MO and any other instance of NXMHandler updates that INI.
