  1. I used to get this frequently. Now I never do. IIRC the cure was to get rid of the z fighting tweaks, reduce the primary shadows to 2048 and secondary to 1024 in skyrimprefs.ini and then optimize textures using DDSOpt.
  2. Apparently Sharlikran helped considerably to fix this mod up sometime in May. Given his technical ability and reputation I would have a lot more confidence in this mod now. It still might be a huge beast as far as scripts, etc. go, but as I understand it they are no longer buggy. Based on that, it sounds like it might be safe to use as long as you do not have too many other mods competing for resources. At least my experience has been that any one mod like this can be fine but that many script heavy mods in combination will overwhelm your system. Or a rather long winded way of saying - I don't know....
  3. It's probably scripts causing this. These .psc files are scripts. Any common denominator about your freezes? At least narrow down whether it is combat or non-combat related if you can. After you have optimized your textures these are the primary culprit as I understand it. Look at enabling/disabling your script heavy mods one (or a batch) at a time to narrow down the issue. The ENB .200/201 might help here by keeping your memory usage under a bit more control. Mods worth looking at are Wet and Cold, Frostfall, Deadly Spell Impact, Burn Freeze Shock, Carriages (maybe), Run for your Life, When Vampires Attack, Enhanced Blood Textures, etc. You can find these script heavy mods by opening your Data tab under MO, opening up the scripts sub folder at the bottom and then seeing which mods are contributing scripts.
  4. Be careful with *_*n.dds, it will grab a few non-normals too. *_n.dds will grab only normals, but will miss a few oddly named normals and the like.
  5. So if one used this (or perhaps other unleveled) mods, which mods should not be used alongside it? For example I assume something like High Level Enemies would not work with it. What about NPC/Creature mods like SkyTest, Skyrim Immersive Creatures? What about something like Timing is Everything? Or perhaps a simpler way of addressing this issue is what other gameplay mods do you use alongside this?
  6. I'm intrigued by Civil War Overhaul and one of the review here on STEP said it seemed quite stable and gave no issues - but the author seems to think it needs to some serious work so I have left it alone. If I was focused on a civil war play though I would seriously consider adding it.
  7. Pure Water looks like nice but it's too pure/clear for my taste - except in exceptional cases natural bodies of water are not that clear. So I stick with WATER - plus it has some cool optionals.
  8. Makes sense. For he issue is that I think the less saturated version is better for some types (principally gray hair and maybe some others) but I like the saturated version for blondes, etc. - so I waffle back and forth. I'm not a fan of the new rough version but it makes sense to test it against the current winner/choice. (Or maybe just say the mod as a whole wins and tell people the pluses and minuses of each option - it's not like the options affect other mod choices down the road - it's purely cosmetic AFAIK.)
  9. Agreed. I want them to look nice when I am playing, not in some other situation (such as either a photographic screen captures or closeups starting at an inanimate texture). Of course that is a lot harder to just by just looking a a few screenshots.
  10. Notes about conflicts would be great - do these houses occupy spaces that other mods use? That's one reason I often shy away from house mods.
  11. I agree - Unreal is too cinematic for my taste, I like RealVision. I've been using RealVision with it's ELFX preset. Hoping he will come out with a .193+ ENB for that soon...
  12. This mod seems like a great idea but strikes me as requiring too many tweaks to make compatible with everything for too little gain.
  13. I thought it was interesting the two versions he chose:2K/1K normals uncompressed and 1K/1K compressed. How often do caves appear in in the world space where the extra size would matter?
  14. Yes. Some music expansions or overhauls would be nice. I don't usually pay attention to them at all but they can really help setting the mood. I have started to wonder if there should be different soundtracks tied to different ENBs - bleak, grim ENBs could have somber music while bright fantasy ones could go well with more up-tempo tracks. Since I have no real ear for music I'm sure someone else has better thoughts on how to tie this together...
  15. What do you need to do to enable this? Does vsynch need to be disabled via nVidia Inspector? Skyrim.ini? Then enabled in enb.ini?
  16. The big foundation texture packs are the logical place to start. There are a few DDSOpt compressions that can help out too.
  17. The reason to switch back is to make sure it is ready for the next time you use it - returning it to the default state. Often 8092 Optimizations are run just to change uncompressed files to compressed.
  18. SR (old) has a list of what to use in 1.4, the (SR-LE new) testing on 1.5 is not done yet AFAIK.
  19. It sounds like you have too many large textures. (Script issues will cause freezes in interior combats too. Of course it may well be a bit of both but the textures put you over the top in the outdoors.) Make sure you are not demanding too much of your textures. Use DDSPOpt to reduce most of them to 2K and 1K normals (smaller if your GPU < 4 GB) and compress those that are not already compressed. Also check your .ini files and make sure you don't have performance settings set too high - in particular the various shadow settings at 4K can be quite demanding. As michaelrw above says - try to get things working on a new save. A good test ground for new characters is to use AS-LAL to create a character in Whiterun (or coc Whiterunexterior01) and then run northwest out into the tundra and fight the bandits in Smuggler's Den, Halted Stream Camp and Silent Moons then running back into Whiterun. This has plenty of combat and the tundra can be tough on performance - as can re-approaching Whiterun at least for me.
  20. CK used to be used and looks like it will be again in a very limited way.
  21. Awesome - 8K x 8K textures of every twig here we come!!! :)
  22. Thanks for the explanation. I had noticed it but not really thought about why it was they behave that way. It sounds like using the wait function for things to occur is not always a good idea.
  23. Thanks - very useful. I had been wondering how stable it really was and whether it played nice with other mods. Did you need to create any compatibility patches?
  24. I'm not sure if it's DDOS or if he just just refreshing his servers today. Anyway - seems like an interesting mod that might fill in well for Scenic Carriages.
  25. I believe that the newest version of SIC does carry these changes through from the DLC to DLC2.
