z929669 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I have done extensive testing with the noise maps (one I have not yet looked at is Ewis' ... 33846), and I have looked at every combination extensively. The OP has what I believed to be the most representative without adding another 56 images. I was torn between DTTL noise and EDT-Earth (both blend LOD ground nicely with SFO grass in foreground), as both look very good with EDT2. My main nit with DTTL is that it is a bit blotchy and does break up the roads a bit; however, it sort of grew on me the more I looked at it, because I began to accept that the roads of Skyrim should not necessarily be overly worn. I would be just as happy with EDT-Earth though, and it would be simpler to then omit DTTL. HDET does not compare as well to these others, IMO. DTTL SFO LODs do not work at all with SFO (the last one is the beta of my recolored versions). The DTTL vanilla ones work better. Since I thought that SFO snowy trees were too yellowish and DTTL was too greenish (see second image), I created the recolored DTTL SFO LODs and SFO snowy trees that are on Vurt's page:
z929669 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I'll concede to not using DTTL noise map for terrain, since it does break up the roads and it does complicate installation unnecessarily. However, I propose EDT-Earth rather than HDET, because the latter is a bit too blotchy, IMO. The former uses a finer grain that seems to better indicate grass clumps that are farther away. gallery below (image names represent the mods under review. Note that this looks at the scene under EDT2, which I think is really a no-brainer) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fnnk87cub1bikf6/vvIcdabUAZI propose we accept this one ... seconds?
TechAngel85 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Agree. Marked a accepted. Z, could you post the load order for this (EDT, EDT2, SFO and whatever else is involved) to the changelog? I'll get them added and the mod list updated for 2.2.7 if you do.
z929669 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I had already added the load order changes to the 2.2.7 updated changelog. The load order for all that is relevant is in a post in the Release Admin forum thread.
TechAngel85 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 You have EDT2 added to Section G and then state that Quality World Map is moved to Section F below EDT2. Could you also post a link to the load order? Can't find it. I found this one: https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=3301 but it doesn't have all the files discussed and still has DTTL in it.
TechAngel85 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm going to assume you meant to put it up in conflicting graphics. Right now load order will be EDT2 >> Quality Word Map >> EDT
Octopuss Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Could someone explain the difference between EDT and EDT2 please? (and change my user title to Confused)
Nearox Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I've stopped using this mod in favor of HD Detailed Terrain . No more black stuff in the distance :D Confupuss, EDT is just a noise texture (diffuse + normal I believe) while EDT2 enhances the terrain LOD textures (which are thousands of textures).  Â
Octopuss Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Which one you stopped using? EDT or EDT2? What you linked is interesting, but is it just a retexture? I see it changes the landscape quite a bit.
CJ2311 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Way too many distant terrain mods, it's getting confusing indeed.
Nearox Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Yeah I stopped using EDT & EDT2. HD Detailed Terrain includes all the textures needed. Only other distant terrain mod I use in conjunction with that is HQLODS and then only the hi-res meshes as the normals give black seams (see the HQLOD thread at step). HD Detailed Terrain fits pretty good with SRO but it fits really good to AMB Landscape. Main issue I had with EDT2 is that the darkening of the distant textures was heavily aliased when moving around, making it more of an annoyance and only good for screenshots. Others have had different experience I'm sure.
CJ2311 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Nearox : Are you using HD Enhanced Terrain and/or The Skyrim Distance Overhaul with that though? Or does it also eliminate the need for either/both?
