Acoustic Space Improvement Fixes by DylanJamesWasTaken

This is an expansion for AOS that looks intriguing. I've heard good things anyway.

So this is only altering the cell's Acoustic Space record and nothing more. I mean...there is nothing wrong with this and I would consider it a fix more than anything. It's something that would be in the realm of USSEP, as they do correct some Acoustic Space records already.

Mod updated.  Removed the FOMOD version and added a Plugin version and a SkyPatcher version.  Not sure if SkyPatcher is worth looking into or not.  SkyPatcher is also required for Creation Club Open Helmets 2.0.

It's a strange update. We don't want the SkyPatcher version, as that adds an unnecessary layer of complexity for guide users. The 'plugin' version is exactly the same as 1.2.1 but for the weirdly-added "No LOD Water" flag in a small handfull of new records touching Gerdur's house, Angas' Mill:

Huh? This makes me wonder why this mod is messing with these types of edits. Seems like scope creep to me.

Here's an 'oops' that seems to undo the USSEP change:

image.png

This is the only relevant update (but only if the USSEP got it 'wrong'):

image.png

Also, I don't get the mention the SkyPatcher version intended for SKSE users while the plugin version is not (who is running a mod build without SKSE??).

We'll continue recommending v1.2.1, since it comes with the relevant patches for our mod list and doesn't have this small handfull of seemingly wild edits. The new version essentially eliminates the relevant patches and makes no other relevant changes that I can see. I only see a whopping 'five' changes --three of which are seemingly redundant in comparison to v1.2.1, another that steps on the USSEP, and one change that seems to appropriately modify an acoustic space (but this is arguable, since it's another deviation from the USSEP change to the same record).

I'm guessing this update was made to obviate patch maintenance for the MA.

Hey! I swear I used to have an account for STEP but it's been a long time. I still check the site regularly. 🤍

RE: The SkyPatcher Version. I changed the description around when you screenshotted, but Nexus has been pretty slow to update those fields lately. I changed it to "Recommended Version", and I am probably just going to fall back to an installer anyway. It's too confusing for some people, which I kind of already expected.

It is a way for me to obviate patch maintenance, but only because the lighting mods update so frequently. However, that does not necessarily mean I am done posting patches. I even updated the wording and made comments about how I don't necessarily recommend the SkyPatcher version for aesthetic reasons. Give me more than a few hours to work out the wording. 😅

RE: Undoing of USSEP changes, you'll notice that following the mod and both in the descriptions, I want the farmhouse to have this acoustic template. I have a really dumb, jargon-filled "method" section in the description for why I've chosen this.

Quote

Simple rules were created when deciding which interior was assigned which template. Farmhouses are typically assigned IntRoomWoodMediumAcousticSpace, yet many are also assignedIntRoomStoneMediumAcousticSpace. Because stone interiors are equally shared by castles and buildings in Solitude and Markarth, the former was decided on.

It's not an "oops". It's one of those things that makes more sense when you're not just reading records in xEdit.

RE: Forwarding USSEP records, I just decided to just forward them from USSEP. It's nothing deep – a lot of people are abstaining from recommending USSEP for a lot of legitimate reasons. I would rather make this, and anything I publish, work independently from USSEP. And as for the No Water LOD message...literally no clue how those got there, to be honest. I'm going to remove them tonight, but they aren't really harming anything.

Like I said, give me more than a couple hours to feel out any of the UX changes I need to. 😅 I always forget how when I update a mod, you get swarmed with a bunch of comments from people casually browsing Nexus or updating their mod manager. Love all you guys do, and thanks for all the kind words and being extremely helpful. 🤍

PS I'm a super easy guy to get ahold of. Feel free to message me on Nexus or Discord.

Sorry for the double post. 🙏

I DO remember the No Water LOD flag. This update has been in the making for a minute, so I had to remind myself and I feel so bad for not documenting it.

The No Water LOD flag was supposed to signal that it was an intentional ITM with USSEP. I actually found a post on Discord from 4/19/2024 where I spoke about this. I'm really, really sorry for not documenting that. It's such a dumb mistake.

But as I said, I want this mod to revert those changes by USSEP. It's outlined in the methodology and consistent with the mod. I will throw these changes in a separate patch, probably in an installer.

I will be more clear about this in the mod description, and also just remove the No Water Flag LOD.

Hey, no worries, and apologies if my post came off a bit harsh or misinformed. I was indeed going by a spot check in xEdit and awaiting someone to straighten me out if I'd misinterpreted anything.

Your explanations are helpful, so thanks for jumping in here. I'll have another look in a day or two and go from there. We'll obviously still be recommending some version of your mod, regardless.

Thank you for all that you do!

PS: And I feel your pain with the Nexus-update-lag issue ;)

It's no problem at all! I didn't really detect any hostility - I know all the STEP guys are good people. 🙏

The old version is going to be left up for this reason, so please recommend what version best for your guide. I just can't promise any of the lighting patches are good. The latest version has an installer, the USSEP overwrites have been moved to their own plugin (though I need to reupload it because I forgot the BASH Tag), and I will be improving the wording in the sticky post and description to help people decide what's best for them.

Thanks for all you guys do as well. Sorry again for the confusion...!

For now, we'll stick with v1.2.1, since we'd need to update our patches otherwise. Once we are in a position to either do that or update our guide to the next iteration, we'll probably opt for the latest plugin version of your mod, since we do the patching ourselves anyway.

Thanks again!

Just a couple of questions about the latest version and patches...

The Main File FOMOD v1.3.3 has a patch option for Reverb Interior Sounds Expansion (RISE), CC Farming, and CC Saints & Seducers, but then there's also a distinct patch for each of these under Misc Files. These independent patches are older and different than those in the installer and actually match those installed with previous v1.2.1:

image.png

Reviewing in xEdit, the plugins seem to be effectively the same, but Seducers is using the vanilla EID in the stand-alone version (I renamed the stand-alone plugins so I could load them with the FOMOD versions):

image.png

Farming and Seducers have Bash tags in the FOMOD versions but not in the stand-alone versions. The RISE and Seducers versions have different masters (the FOMOD versions requires ASIF, but the stand-alone versions do not). These diffs account for the CRC mismatches among these files.

Are these differences intentional? If so, what's the reasoning?

Additionally, the file descriptions threw me off a bit. Is "the installer" the plugin version of the Main File?

image.png

Sorry if I seem a pain. I'm just pedantic and want to be certain I'm updating our instructions and patches correctly and consistently :D

EDIT: You can disregard the above, as I've determined that we'll use v1.3.3 along with our own patching for Ambiance. Your other updated patches in the 'plugin' version's FOMOD are taking care of the remainder nicely, so I've removed any conflicts from our patches.

Hi STEP team

FYI - instructions on 2.3 and 2.4 (checked just in case) are not updated, that user should use Acoustic Space Improvements Fixes v1.3.3 latest plugin version.

reason for me to search for this thread was that when going to nexus link there are 2 main versions and in instruction only statement "do not use patch files".

Thanks for the callout. I've corrected the instructions.
