  1. I'm fairly certain I have read Arthmoor (lead on the unofficial Skyrim patches and well-respected mod author) state that it is not driver related, and is in fact Windows. However, I searched for 5 minutes a few days ago to find this post and I was unsuccessful. I'm fairly certain it was AFKMods forum or Bethsoft forum. Who was saying it was the Nvidia drivers on ENB? Boris himself (author of ENB and all-around technical guru)? If so, I would definitely consider what he had to say, for sure.
  2. Honestly, if I were you, (for Fallout 3 modding) I would start off using Kelmych's fairly amazing Fallout 3 guide. Read from top to bottom, and follow all instructions in order, and exactly as written. It even goes through the proper way to install Fallout and MO, along with other utilities, etc. By following the details in the guide closely, you will learn things you would not even think to ask here. There will be links to other guides, etc. to help you along the way, such as the MO guide I gave you a link to in an earlier post. Using MO for this will make things extremely easy, as MO uses a virtual file system, which means your main FO3 data will never be touched. Every time you start MO, it will use only the mods you have "ticked" in the MO user interface. That means that even if you do not want to use one or more of the many mods the guide asks you to install, you can just deselect it and have no worries. You don't even have to uninstall it. You can also have multiple profiles with different mods installed, etc. But you will learn all this just by following Kelmych's guide. If you want to add mods afterward which are not on the list (such as Gopher's Director's Chair mods, etc.), you will probably learn enough on the journey to figure it out. And when you make a mistake, and have to fix something (which 99% of people do), MO makes it easy to fix. To learn even more about modding, look at the main STEP guide for Skyrim (new version expected within the next week or two). Due to many more people working on it, it being more popular, and the guide being around for longer, it is a bit more user friendly. However, as a result of this, you will probably end up learning more from Kelmych's FO3 guide. Regarding merging plugins, Kelmych's guide uses the Merge Plugins xEdit script. However, I believe this should only be used to merge basic things. Major projects like Paradox Ignition probably require a ton of manual work in xEdit among other things, and a ton of experience to make sure things don't get screwed up. Hence why they are major projects. :) Anyway, good luck on your modding journey! Cheers, Nebulous Edit: LOL looks like I spent too long writing this post. Kelmych beat me to some of the things I listed. Still, I do recommend to use his guide. It is basically what taught me about modding.
  3. Unfortunately, I think this may be a big part of the problem. :( The DDSopt guide you linked to, and Kelmych's Clear and Present Danger Fallout 3 guide both use Mod Organizer as the base. All instructions are assuming you have MO; having Mod Organizer actually makes the process so much easier. Also, a small bit of advice... Never install a mod "by hand" without a mod manager. Mod managers exist for a reason! If you ever have to change a mod, or make a mistake, you will have to completely delete you Fallout game directory and re-download, and start from scratch. I made this mistake when I first tried to mod Fallout and Skyrim. One re-install procedure after a mistake convinced me to never install by hand. I used NMM. Later, I got over my "fear" of using MO, and read the STEP MO guide, and it wasn't as difficult to use as everyone said it was. Once I understood it, it made everything so much easier. Regarding your original question, I personally am not sure. Knowing what I know now (which I keep being reminded around here is not all that much! :P), I would recommend to you to delete all your files, re-install the game, download MO, and read this guide. Then download your mods again using MO, and try the DDSopt procedure again, which may make more sense once you have MO installed and a basic understanding of how it works. I could be wrong, but in my mind this would be the safest way to transition to a MO setup if you have added mods by hand into the FO3 file structure. This is probably not what you want to hear, but just my humble opinion. Big pain, but if you plan to mod these games, I think it would be worth it for you. Then again, Kelmych or someone else may be kind enough to come back with a direct answer for your question, who knows. But I'd still change over if I were you. Lol.
  4. Usually an asterisk "*" means wildcard. I would assume that you should get rid of both.
  5. Read this: https://wiki.step-project.com/Mod_Organizer#Recommendations Then this: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer#Overwrite Here you go. Don't feel bad, I made a very similar mistake in not spotting what I needed in the guide less than a week ago. :) I've linked to the overwrite section in the main Mod Organizer guide, but it's good to read the whole guide. Probably a couple times, there's a lot of info in it.
  6. Does acceptance of this mod also include the Gloves add-on? It has a different page on the Nexus, but in the description it states explicitly that it is an add-on to Mage Outfit Texture Overhaul. Mage Outfit Texture Overhaul (HD 2K)- MOTO - Gloves (by Alexandriel) If not, I will make a mod thread for it.
  7. Fast reply on mobile for me. Looking forward to getting my computer back from the shop tonight. :) All seems well to me now, but I will reply to this thread if I run into any other issues.
  8. I have noticed the same. The forum was down from around 9:15pm or 9:30pm MST. Still down at 12:30am MST, checked this morning at around 7am MST and still down. Was up for me when I checked at around 9:45am this morning. Also, the forums were down the previous night for a couple hours as well, but came back up much quicker.
  9. Swap files, beyond being slower than using memory, are also bad news for SSDs. I believe the life of an SSD is basically determined by how many write operations are completed. As far as I know, you can read files on an SSD almost infinitely without repercussions (i.e. opening an existing file); but writing is a different matter (i.e. making changes to a file, or creating a new file). This is one of the reasons why one should never defragment an SSD...defragmentation is basically moving parts of files around so they are physically right next to each other on the disk platter. This requires an absolute ton of write operations to move things around. (Think of a huge warehouse that is almost full, with no room to move. To sort all the items in the warehouse, you have to move each pallet many times to be able to get to the one you are aiming to move. Do that a bajillion times to sort the whole thing.) The other main reason not to defragment an SSD is that it is fairly useless...it is not mechanical, so not much is really gained by files being physically next to each other. However, defragmentation does really speed things up on an HDD, because the mechanical parts have to move a lot less to read one file. Traditional HDDs, while slower, are mechanical, and therefore simply die when a mechanical part quits working correctly. Tl;dr - Swap files will reduce the life of your SSD significantly. Also, do not ever defragment an SSD.
  10. Hmm...I wonder if it is Google re-crawling the pages, per Tech's suggestion on the topic I started regarding issues on mobile. I noticed when I switched to "full" version earlier to attempt a PM (for which I got a server error, not sure if it went through) that "Google" was one of the "members" browsing the forums.
  11. Noticed in the last couple days when I post from mobile, after I post the automatic redirect to the topic shows up as a Server error. I just go back to the main STEP forum index, and it shows my post as not being read. However, it does post successfully. I assume this is the reason for the recent uptick in double posts. Edit: Also didn't happen this time for me.
  12. Makes sense that it won't be tested for this release. Testing how new animations interact with everything seems like it would be a lot more difficult than testing new textures, for instance.
  13. Check out Tech's recent response in the Fallout 4 General and Mod Discussion Thread.
  14. Blocking Animation Pack (by 5poiler) This is a possible replacement for Dual Wield Blocking Animations (by Daljo). On the Nexus page for Dual Wield Blocking Animations, the author states: It may be worth taking a look at this replacement, if the author doesn't even recommend his own mod anymore. 😛 Beyond replacing the dual-wield blocking animations in the current STEP mod, this mod also adds new blocking animations for one-handed and two-handed weapons. From the video, it looks pretty neat. I am adding this to my new playthrough in place of the current STEP mod. Edit: FYI - There are two data folders...one for the Dual Wield blocking animation and one for the One-Hand / Two-Hand weapon blocking animations. This makes it easy if you just want to install the dual-wield portion (to replace Dual Wield Blocking Animation by Daljo). However, if you want to install both portions, you will have to open up both file structures completely at the MO install prompt. Shift-click to highlight multiple files, and move all the animations from the one animation folder to the other.
  15. Huh. Not sure how I missed that. It's all bold and in a neat little boxed window. Again, I am reminded that STEP > me. Edit: Regardless of my inherent stupidity, I'm still wondering if anyone really uses the rename feature or not.
  16. A suggestion for updating the MO guide, as well as the main STEP guide: Expand on merge vs. replace vs. rename. Perhaps a simple recommendation on what to do with optional or miscellaneous files for the main Skyrim STEP guide (whether to merge or re-name optionals to keep them as separate files). I would suggest another blue box with the MO symbol, with the recommendation between the "Mod Tables Legend" and "STEP 1". A more detailed explanation of the differences could be put in the MO guide. (That replace should be used to update mod versions unless it is a hotfix, etc.) Currently, the only information I could find in the various guides on the wiki (main STEP guide, MO guide and Advanced MO guide) is a warning in the MO guide about uninstalling merged mods. I feel that having a recommendation on what to do with optional (or multiple files for the same mod) from the STEP team would be quite beneficial for users. As an aside, what do you guys do with optional files, or multiple files for the same mod? Merge, or re-name? I have always merged them, but recently I've read about those that always re-name them to preserve separate files for all downloads.
  17. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not very knowledgeable about these matters (I only use STEP Extended) but if you are using Skyrim Enhanced Camera, it was very recently updated to v1.3. I remember noticing in the changelog some bug fixes that may be relevant. Edit: Just re-read your post and noticed you mentioned Immersive First Person View. I've never used it, so I have no suggestions other than trying to substitute Skyrim Enhanced Camera, and see if that helps. Assuming, of course, that it doesn't bugger anything up regarding compatibility.
  18. Regarding tree popping...if you haven't looked at DoubleYou's Tree Settings guide yet, you should. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Tree_Settings Also, more generally, the Skyrim Configuration Settings guide is a must read (read this before Tree Settings Guide). https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Configuration_Settings Regarding the mod end of things...someone with more knowledge than I will have to respond. :) Cheers, Nebulous
  19. Great, thanks for looking into this.
  20. Looks like the SRB's post with the beta core patch got deleted, I'm pretty sure it was in this page above SRB's post regarding Thieves Guild Reqs MCM and Timing is Everything. Also, note that the Extended STEP guide is the same guide as the Core STEP guide. The guide itself is found in the STEP Wiki. Note in the mod lists, some mod names have a vertical green bar on the left side of them, while others do not. To install STEP Core, just install the mods with green bars. To install STEP Extended, install every mod in the list. Note that some mods have a link to "detailed instructions". CLICK THE LINK AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! I can't stress this enough. The first "step" to a proper STEP installation is to read the documentation. It can be somewhat complex, but the end product is superior to what I think you'll find elsewhere. Cheers, Nebulous
  21. That is great news! Just a heads-up SRB, I noticed there was a lone bug report for Mator's tool that just came in. https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/topic/4276-relzwipz-unofficial-skyrim-legendary-edition-patch-usleep/page-5 Edit: Looks like user error. In thread user reports problem solved.
  22. Fair enough. Then from the compares, I have naught to critique, for what it's worth. :)
  23. Tech, someone just asked in the posts section of the Enhanced Blood Textures page on Nexus if there was a way to use just the textures (I assume this was you, dreadflopp?). dDefinder replied, "Use version 1.1". Also, regarding my above query about the issue I was having with blood on my hands when casting spells...apparently this does occur from spell use, instead it happens due to getting hit. Which I still think is kind of stupid, but in a more acceptable way. ;) lol dDefinder said my options were to re-equip my armour, or lower the decal lifetime in the MCM menu.
  24. I'm wondering if this should get dropped for the new release. I noticed in this thread on the Bethesda forums, Arthmoor talks about how DynDOLOD has made altering uGrids obsolete. I should fully read topics before I post to them. Apparently also fixes a bug, which I imagine hasn't been fixed elsewhere. Ignore.
  25. As my computer has been under repair for the last week, I have been using my smartphone to browse and post on the STEP forum. I've noticed an issue when searching Google for anything on the STEP forum. The Google links seem to add some "smartbanner" text and referrer text, which results in just displaying a blank page. The page loads, but nothing is there. Swiping down seems to reload the page, with no effect other than a brief animated circular arrow in blue to indicate it is reloading. This seems to occur only with Google search; Bing search and Yahoo search do not have this issue. Tested on Samsung Note 4 with Chrome, Samsung Note 4 with Firefox, and BlackBerry 10 with in-built "Browser". For example, I searched "Dragon priest Kajuan step" (with no quotations), and this is the link I got from the first result: http://forum.step-project.com/tt/smartbanner/welcome.php?referer=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.step-project.com%2Ftopic%2F8333-dragon-priest-by-kajuan%2F&code=4f8373179b91ba39168d307691afcd7b&board_url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.step-project.com&lang=enNote that this issue is not found on other forums. For example, on my Note 4 if I search "Tes5edit afk" (no quotes), the first result link will bring me to the TES5Edit AFKMods forum thread, and the page displays correctly. If I search "usleep bethsoft" (no quotes), the first link brings me to the USLEEP thread on the Bethesda forums, and it also displays correctly. I'm not sure if anything can be done about this, as it seems like a Google issue, but as other forums do not have this issue, I thought I would bring it up. Thanks for your time, Nebulous
