Bethesda's Paid Mods That Aren't Paid Mods But Are Paid Mods
CovertSlinky replied to a topic in General Game Discussion
That is EXACTLY there intention. This isn't the first of this type of micro-transaction to hit a game with a prosperous and abundant modding community, think Minecraft, thank you Microsoft. The funny thing is that, I too believed that this would fail and so would Microsoft's Minecraft vision. But it hasn't, there are plenty of people in the world that don't mind paying. My guess is that this affecting the ignorant, i.e parents who (for all and any reasons I won't get into) buy or allow their children to buy. Parents who work all day and probably only play games on their phones tablets and whatnot and perhaps occasionally a game console. Those people would be mostly oblivious to the free alternative that exists mostly and more abundantly on the PC. I honestly do not believe this will fail. And I really do not see Bethesda backing down unless modders boycott it. This fails if they do not get enough people join the "Club". Microsoft hasn't given one **** about all the people against their controlled modding scene. Which is EXACTLY what this is about. It is a way to bring a so called DRM if you will, to the modding scene, all the while making bank. But at the same time, I am torn about this, I do not know which way I lean. I mean I do understand their concept and their desire, justification, ehhh...... that's the dilemma. They do own IP of this content, so they have the "right", at least legally. It's hard for me, cause modding isn't this new idea, My roots of modding go all the way back to the original DOOM. Modding is an idea that holds a strong, Free, and maybe that's a bias? But then modders getting paid, that's a doozy as well, I personally believe they should if they feel it's warranted. It has been a heavy debate through ages, and right now both sides hold equal ground. But at the end of the day, regardless of my or anyone else's opinion for that matter, Bethesda will do whatever it wants, just like all before and after it. -
SSE & Modding - The early days
CovertSlinky replied to Pretendeavor's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
I saw that, have you tried it yet, or anyone for that matter? -
Oh, no, bad idea there. Have you looked at the ini's yet? They changed alot of things, how things are worded and where they belong. iVsyncPresentInterval is the new vsync option and actually functions from within the prefs ini this time. It's not to say that everything is fine now, cause we all know how that won't be true. But I was thinking about your utility you made DoubleYou and how much painstaking time and effort you went through fact checking the ini's line by line. Hopefully your efforts will have at least some bearing on this new ini setup.

SSE & Modding - The early days
CovertSlinky replied to Pretendeavor's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
I had some awful performance at first, then I remembered how awful Skyrim handled Vsync before, and sure enough remained true again. I shut off Vsync, and performance was wonderful after. Another thing, I noticed I have zero z-fighting right now. My z-fighting is awful for other version. Just need to wait for more mods to be ported or created to see just how much difference or how much further we can take the Creation Engine this time around. -
Game crashes after seconds (after alternate start)
CovertSlinky replied to my_summertim's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Sounds more like a load order problem. You are certain of your load order AND mod order (if you are using MO as suggested)? Also, have you deviated from the STEP mods at all, i.e, installed a mod you like that is not on the STEP list (which is normal for most vets)? You could have a mod causing unknown conflicts, a helpful way to find out is to use TES5edit and check for errors. At this point it could be a lot of things. -
Nvm first post is still relevantish ;)

Couldn't edit my post to include this. I had only read up to page 3 of this thread. And I thought for sure I was on the last page, but nope. So I have made a comment while still being ignorant to the discussion. Just to put that out there. But I do still stand by what I said though, but maybe this discussion has evolved to where my statement is moot now, idk, but will find out when I finish reading.

People telling other people that they can not alter something they altered! Altered Intellectual Property that can not be altered? Are you serious? I totally agree with upholding copyrights. But the bottom line of copyrights IN THIS CONTEXT or SITUATION is this, if everyone in the world upheld to the ideals that the majority of you are declaring one way or another, then Bethesda would have never given permission to the root of this topic and ipso facto we wouldn't even be discussing this on a site that wouldn't even exist because of it. Bethesda gave all of us the right to alter there property however we wish. We have to be able to hold ourselves to some form of that standard aswell imo, otherwise, what's the point? But I am no mod author, so maybe I don't have the right to valid opinion on this topic specifically. I am a parent, and I think I would have a hard time hearing advice about parenting from someone who does not have kids. That pretty much reeks of bigotry. So what do we do?

Not true. The new driver comes with a few new features, one being that FRTC can now work with DX9 games instead of just DX10 or 11. ShaderCache is new. Can now adjust frame flip queue. And some stuff related to eyefinity. However the flip queue thing I think is only available to people who have monitors with amd freesync. They made some actual improvements feature wise, which is why I thought this was going to be good. However they also removed some things that I enjoyed being able to use, most important to me was hotkeyed presets. They are gone, so I am rolling back to catalyst. Because of that, and also the new per game basis overdrive doesnt work very well. sometimes when the game launches it kicks in and then goes off, or just doesnt come on at all. Is easy to notice whether it is functioning if you turn on manual fan set it to 100 along with that game profile. But buggy drivers, is the norm for us AMD goers.

I stumbled upon this sometime ago and loved it. 331Erock has done many game related covers, including DOOM and Final Fantasy VII, but I love this Zelda cover.

Holy crap, I have been here a year and never knew of this thread. OH, and hi John, welcome to STEP, happy modding to ya! But I pretty much have entered this information on my profile page. Well, uhmm, here's to a belated hello or....something? Don't even think I have strolled around the Banter Inn. What's a man gotta do to get a mug of ale around here?

Why did I update MO? Now it's broken
CovertSlinky replied to Thick8's question in Mod Organizer Support
https://issue.tannin.eu/tbg/modorganizer/issues/1308 and Tannin provided a workaround try it and see what ya get. "Confirmed. There is a workaround for now: Select any existing executable in the list (auto-discovered exes work fine too), modify all fields as required for your new binary, then press "Add"." Regards,Slink -
1.3.10 and Nexus automatic login
CovertSlinky replied to CovertSlinky's question in Mod Organizer Support
Ahhh! Right on mate, thx, that did do the trick. Kinda strange tho, I thought that was what the Nexus button in the top left corner was for, I guess not. But then that makes me wonder, why wouldn't the button be able to do that aswell? Regards, Slink EDIT: forgot to mark as solved, sorry. -
Yeah cleaning out yer browser is a good regular maintenance. I myself am a neat freak, and clean it out about once or twice a month, buttt, I also surf for alot of porn so lots of things like to try and find there way on my PC.
-
Has anyone successfully got the automatic login to work with this update yet? Read the message of the day before installing it saying that Tannin fixed it in this version, but I am yet to get MO to log me in. Not a big deal to me really, but curious if anyone else got it to work. I prolly have something blocking MO from doing it. Regards, Slinky

Couldn't resist this post without commenting. The STEP Guide, when I first embarked into modding Skyrim, I had downloaded and ran several mods from nexus, things were great, till things started breaking. After a while on nexus I stumbled on to STEP. Read it and was in complete awe of it's description (coming from a total newb standpoint). I had to get into it, had to have it. When I first starred at the guide, my brain froze, I was seriously feeling overwhelmed. Sooo, what did I do to help this, I read....and read.....and read some more.....and read alot more. Got a warm fuzzy from everything in the guide and in the forums, then started, hit roadblocks, did ALOT more reading, found more things to read than before I started, got confused on something I misunderstood, asked questions, got answers, continued on. Rinse and repeat till I got through my first complete STEP install, played the game, things seemed great, till it broke. Looked into the problem by asking questions and reading ALOT more...again. Fixed one problem till I found more broken stuff. Rinse and repeat till I have installed complete STEP so many times I lost count. It's been over a year since I started my adventure with STEP. Lots of headaches along the way, but in the end, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. The amount of information, in reality, is EVERYTHING Skyrim modding, and if it aint fully covered here, there is usually a link referring out. But, looking back, I can say that as a newb, I started with a viewpoint of being concerned with doing something wrong, i.e, breaking ****. All I can say is, try to rid yourself of this feeling as soon as possible. BREAK STUFF, and ask questions and read, and in the end you will have so much knowledge, that when you do have a problem, you will know where to start and the odds of you fixing it yourself is greatly improved. I have a mod setup now, that is rock solid....so solid, I love it. But I had to put in an ENORMOUS amount of effort to get here. And as the guide goes, it IS overwhelming for a complete newb, at first, it ain't perfect, it can't be, it was made by humans. The guide goes through changes constantly. STEP requires practice, you have to keep at it, just like trying to learn ANYTHING for the first time. And you might ask why is this? Or think that it should not be. But the reality is, that modding Skyrim, the right way, requires an intensive amount of knowledge, because of the shear bold nature of STEP. The amount of mods in STEP is why. Heavily modding Skyrim is a bold adventure. So much in fact, that if it weren't for mods, ALOT of mods individually and mods collectively would not be able to happen. Before I go I wanted to add this, quoting the STEP guiide: "Read the ReadMe and other mod-related documentation that comes packaged with most mods. This includes the mod description on the Nexus. If the mod author has seen fit and taken time to create these reference materials, then they are relevant and important in the eyes of the mod author. This means that they are relevant and important to you!" I always loved that statement, can't be any farther from the truth, it's amazing what can be learned and accomplished just from reading. Anyways, thats my two cents, love it, hate it, tell me I am a moron, or whatever you feel like, or nothing at all I suppose too XD. I am a real thick skinned guy. Regards, Slink

New update on Steam
CovertSlinky replied to CovertSlinky's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Earlier today, it wasn't a beta update, it was being dished out as an actual update which went live at around 1pm Eastern. Then an hour and a half later they backed out of it cause of issues they said they found. So they then turned around and gave an update for those who had gotten the bogus update which made everything go back to normal. So my guess is sometime next week they are planning on trying again. I am always opted out of Beta updates as well. -
Just wanted to throw it out there. Where does this update put us STEP users. Been reading a lot of users having trouble who actually use the Steam Workshop. I myself haven't allowed the update yet and tested if anything is broken. Scared to, lol. But the update affects CK and the Skyrim Launcher, which we STEP users rarely use (Launcher). Just curious if anyone on so far today has allowed the update and had success or failure. Regards, Slink Update: Found some interesting info on the Bethesda Softworks Forum https://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1514726-new-update-for-skyrim-pc-launcher-and-creation-kit-sdk/ https://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1515163-beta-going-into-a-release/ The first link points out there intention of the update and what for, while stating it is Beta. The second link states they will go live, and then an hour and a half later, they say they found issues and will be staying in Beta for the rest of the week. Guess Steam didn't get that memo. Also, I am about to just get this over with and update it and find out how much of a headache I may be in for. EDIT: just went to allow it to update, and apparently Steam did get the memo, no update was performed. However, it was still queued, but nothing downloaded and it said ready to play. So nvm for now, But it will be back at some point.

AMidianBorn Content Addon Assistance
CovertSlinky replied to i_push_buttons's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ahhh I see, didn't no that was going on. I went to another site I knew used to have it UFRealms, but the site doesn't exist anymore. I'll keep looking, but you might have to wait until whatever is going on with wrye bash at nexus gets resolved. Hey found it, went in to the oblivion nexus and it's still up https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/22368/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Foblivion%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D22368&pUp=1 So run over there and get it! Hope it helps and happy modding. Oh and btw, at the moment the only way to download it is to use the CDN experimental download, as the links for download manually don't work. -
I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

AMidianBorn Content Addon Assistance
CovertSlinky replied to i_push_buttons's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yes you have to use wrye bash to build a bashed patch so that changes made to leveled lists are incorporated into your game. And no it would not be a good idea to use someone else's patch, cause there mod list would have to be identical to yours. But I am not clear as to what your problem with wrye bash is. Do you just need a link to where you can download wrye bash so you can build your patch? Or do you need help building the patch through wrye bash? -
Dang, guess I am gonna have to look and see if I can come up with a way to do it myself.
