I'm trying to imply that maybe you (Tech the most of you - damn nitpicker, just like myself, only in different situations :P) are bothering with things that either have no solution or are so unimportant it's not worth it.

That's a matter of your opinion. :)

it's a way of life. Tech profiles often tries to spend 99% of their time to 1% of the projet. 1% of the project that is the less visual part of the project

i'm sure about that, i'm a kind of tech profile

always look on the bright side of ......

i'm gonna try this small mod on one of my step install

Been running it since it was originally posted, and it does fit better. If we could make it 'better' (yes, it's a relative thing, but hey... what about STEP isn't?) then I think it's something to look at, especially if we're looking to add in something that wasn't there originally, but makes sense to include.

i have tried it stand alone on one basic installation (legendary + high res), not a step install yet and it seems a little bit better for me than without it.

will try it later into a good full step installation.

just perhaps a little bit too regular.

I've been using this mod for a long time now. Regardless of the vanilla issue of mismatched textures, this mod is still a far better option than sticking with vanilla. I recommend it for STEP:Core.

I've been using this in my STEP Extended testing profile and it's a definite improvement over the vanilla skidmarks. I think someone mentioned earlier that Langley's also includes skidmarks, but I haven't look at Langley's skidmarks.

I've not looked at Langley's either. I pulled it up in photoshop and it's of pretty high quality like Northfire's. I suppose it needs to be tested so I'm plugging it into my load order now.

Okay, I did a quick test with Langley's and it's a "no-go" for me. It has a specular map on it that is just awful when the light hits it in a certain way. When this happens, instead of dirt it looks like slime.

Northfire 100%.
