v1.2.0 - Feedback & Bug Reports

Ignore the fact that two of these pics are taken outside of repconn, I didn't decide till after completing the quest Come Fly With Me to actually fix it so just used console to spawn him.
Jason Bright's retexture looks kinda crappy, especially indoors - doesn't look like he glows at all tbh, not sure if this might have something to do with one of the lighting mods. But the main ugly issue is the seam in the meshes, this mod fixes that - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/72708/?tab=description

I've uploaded a new version of the Step patch. It includes the NCR goggles fix and fixes biped slots on headgear introduced in Spice of Life. It should no longer be possible to mix motorcycle helmets with hats (I did some testing). Also included the Jason Bright fix to the modlist. It had bothered me for years, didn't know there was a fix. Gave credit to LJamesD as per information in @OGMailMan's Step profile, hope that's the correct Nexus ID.

The "floating trees" seem normal on the screenshots; it might be different in-game. Hopefully, it will be solved in Landscape Disposition Fix at some point in time (check for upgrades).

Finally, I did some testing with the MkI Combat Armor and decided not to fix it. I couldn't replicate the issue with female characters, while males exhibited their left pauldron only with some of the 2-handed rifles. Anyways, I think I looks somewhat realistic and I like the meshes added by Robert's Male Body more.If anyone has an issue with that, they can use the mod @OGMailMan suggested.

Thanks for the work.
I failed to mentioned that with the combat armor the issue was only present when I had a weapon drawn and walked around, That Gun was the main one I saw the issue with, it was much more minor with the female body but still there. I don't know what issues it could be on my end.

Im running into an error that i cant seem to find listed. After finishing the extenders section it asks me to test, after launching NVSE through MO i get this launcher asking me to install the game. Ive checked everything i can think of and gone over the previous steps but dont know what could be causing it

You shouldn't be getting the launcher through NVSE. It seems to me that you either:

  • Failed to generate INI files as explained in FNV Initialization
  • Bothed the Tools Section and therefore Steam cannot veryfy the files.

You can try to very the integrity of game files, but I am afraid you have to reinstall the game and start anew. Lastly, make sure you haven't installed the game in the Program Files folder of Windows.

I have a lot of mod recommendations but filling them out individually for the mod page is rather tedious and time-consuming, so I'm going to list them all here and if a moderator would rather remove it that's fine. I also understand that Majorman will be on leave from the guide so I don't exactly expect these to be considered or added any time soon. This is listed in terms of what I think can be fairly accepted into the guide, to ones that I know are a little stretch since they add/change canon game stuff.

New Vegas Uncut - Panzermann's Edition - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/76167 A revised version of the Uncut Series as well as Outside Bets. Outside Bets is such a good addition of small pieces of cut content that really adds a lot to the game that I would really like to push to be added into the guide. This is an all-in-one file for the Uncut Series (Outside Bets is separate) so it does make the individual Uncut mods in the guide redundant, as well as messes up with stuff that's fixed in the STEP patch.
Main Story Alterations - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/63870 See above description, it's basically the same. All-in-one file for some cut content mods that are already in the guide as well as other additions.
Elijahs Last Words fix - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44929 Fixes what I think is definitely an oversight in a Dead Money perk.
Any Glasses With Any Mask Revised - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/75689 Small gripe of mine that has no issues "fixing".
Better Character Creation - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/70973 Speeds up initial character creation, I mainly like it for the specialized gear based on your tag skills.
The Living Desert - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/64623 I like the additions of making the worldspace feel more impactful due to the player's decisions, the only major conflict it poses right now is FCO which this patch;
Susalona's Patches 2020 and Beyond - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/68813 fixes. This patch page also contains potential fixes for issues between FCO and Spice of Life+YUP if those fixes haven't already been implemented with the STEP patch.
Mobile Truck Base Remastered - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/71536 It's cool and ads a lore-friendly way to fast travel.

  • New Vegas Uncut -Outside Bets was abandonded in 2012. Since then some of the cut content was added by YUP and some of the rest was added in Uncut Wasteland (e.g. the No Man's Land). Some of the content was not meant to be restored, as Camp McCaren, for example, is already near the NPC-per-cell hard-coded engine limit and adding more NPCs might lead to CTDs. Overall, I trust Sandbox6's Uncut Wasteland, as the author has spend years working on cut content and YUP and is one of the most experienced Fallout modders. If someone knows what can be restored without crushing the game, it's he. On top of tha, Wilder Wasteland features assets there were inside jokes among the developers (e.g. Gojira) that someone forgot to delete pre-release - Obsidian confirmed they were no "cut content" as they were never meant to be part of the game. Trust me, I've tested all "New Vegas Uncut" mods and hand-picked the good ones.
  • Main Story Alterations - the issue with this mod is that it doesn't work as intended. That's why I had to include the individual components one by one.
  • Elijah's Last Words Fix - fix included in YUP. Just checked in FNV Edit.
  • Any Glasses... - it never bothered me, but l0l28 produces safe-to-use stuff, so you should be fine using this mod.
  • Better Character Creation - well, the thing is, this mod is aimed at veteran players that are sick of the opening sequence. Potential first-time players should play through at whole opening at least once, IMO. It sets the mood right. That being set, some of tedious bits (like are you sure this is your character" have been cut via Stewie's Tweaks. There are instructions on the STEP FNV Patch mod page on how to skip the tutorial messages as well.
  • The Living Desert - I'm not a big fan of added content (as opposed to cut content, especially if it was cut due to time constraints). Also adding a ton of NPCs makes the game progressively less stable,
  • Truck Base - again, not a fan of added content.

Fellow STEP guide followers and Moderators, Mr. Majorman salutations

Thank you for this guide but I have some queries to bother you if I may:

1) The mod "Fallout Character Overhaul" FOMOD installer doesnt work for me, so I tried to install manually, are these the files to be installed (Yes I will install under "data" folder): [Image provided, please do look into it, thank you]

2) Again, the mod "Gun Runners' Arsenal Merged" FOMOD installer doesnt work for me, are these the files to be installed: [Image provided, please do look into it, thank you]

3) The mod "Brotherhood and House Truce" has been updated and older files are archived and the new one doesnt state its non-fpge/tld or not. But I found a moddb page where both non fpge/tld and normal files are present, use that instead? [Image provided, please do look into it, thank you]

4) The mod "One HUD - oHUD" has been updated and there has been a lot of changes. For the sake of this guide this mod's version should be 1.1 from the "old files" section, am I correct?

5) Lastly, should I use the "Ragdoll" mod patch for the "Diagonal movement" mod? The guide doesnt say anything which would imply use of the main file only but "Ragdoll" mod is installed first before "Diagonal movement" mod.

Thank you so much and please do reply...

Both, 'Fallout Character Overhaul' and 'Gun Runners' Arsenal Merged' worked just fine for me to install with each their respective FOMODs. With both, the first screen is a bit irritating, you'd just have to press 'Start' ...

According to the changelog the author removed any edits related to FPGE and TLD, so there are no more dependencies to the mentioned mods. I personally would install the newest version here.

I'd also go with the latest version here, since the updates are mostly bugfixes and QoL changes. Still i have no idea how this would affect the bugfixes mentioned in the instructions or make them obsolete alltogether?

If not specificially mentioned in the guide, i would not install any additional patches and stick to the guide. (Any compatibility issues might already be solved with 'NV Compatibility Skeleton' or later in the STEP patch ...)

EDIT: Please correct me if I'm wrong here at any point. I am also just in the middle of installing the Fallout NV guide here ...

  • 3 months later...

I have a bug that I've had since install/for months now but didn't bother to check what the issue was until now (it's also a late-game gun that you wouldn't notice for ages so I get why it's gone unnoticed).
Basically the Ranger Sequoia textures are messed up badly (see image). This is caused by a clash of meshes and textures from the following mods: Weapon Mesh Improvement Mod, Simplified Weapon Retexture Project - WRP, and WTH - Weapon Textures from Heaven.
The simple solution I found is going into Simplified Weapon Retexture Project - WRP and hiding the mesh files "rangerseqoia.nif" and "rangerseqoiaGO.nif", I didn't do extensive testing so not sure if both or only one of those files needs to be hidden, but I did try hiding the texture files in WTH and it didn't fix it, and hiding the mesh files in Weapon Mesh Improvement Mod and it didn't fix it. Presumably the textures from WTH needed the meshes from Weapon Mesh Improvement Mod and aren't compatible with the mesh changes in WRP.
