z929669 Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Discussion topic: FIZZLE by dAb Wiki Link This mod would seem prudent if we pick up any of the relevant mods that distribute spells to NPCs. It also keeps the PC in check. Most likely will have some compatibility issues with some of the other related mods, so patching may be necessary. Come to think of it, this mod may be redundant with these mods as well: Spell perk Item Distributor Odin Enemy (R)Evolution
TechAngel85 Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Odin is an overhaul of magic spells and doesn't include any restrictions for casting; just like in vanilla if you have enough magic to cast the spell, then you can cast it, period. This mods seems to be entirely for introducing level restrictions to spells based upon the player's current skill level within the specific schools. It certainly sounds interesting.
z929669 Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 That's what I though as well. It's a bit like Crafting Overhaul options in that way. I didn't mark it 'testing' because I wasn't sure if we would want to add this. I like the concept though.
Mercury71 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 This is a nice one if it works as intended. Makes me remember when i was young and played pen and paper games where you might fizzle and it whas so frustrating. 🙂
z929669 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Yep, more like classic RPG (D&D did this sort of thing, depending on the DM)
z929669 Posted May 3, 2021 Author Posted May 3, 2021 I don't do magic much in Skyrim aside for 'tools' like healing, enemy detection, telekinesis, etc. That said, I have had no issues with this mod in my general testing. Given the description, I think it's a good fit for Step in that it incorporates some vanilla-friendly fixes and essentially enhances immersion/realism. I will place this same note on the new magi-related mods we are testing for Step.
DoubleYou Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 This mod is annoying! LOL. But it definitely adds a bit of realism to the game. You can't be confident that your Fast Healing spell is going to work! Got just enough magicka to cast that high level alteration magic spell and you are still level 20 alteration? Forget it. You'll need to put in the necessary practice before you get so lucky as to successfully cast it. I like it, but I'm sure some people won't simply because it makes magic that much harder.

Expand I've ran into this with a few higher level destruction spells. Just remember it's doing the same thing to the NPCs. No more getting blasted by high level spells when you accidentally enter the wrong around too early from exploring!
DoubleYou Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Well, tbh, I don't think I have ever had a playthrough where I died more. I have a knack for finding that one mage with an ice storm spell that can one shot me.
z929669 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 Yeah, all reasons why I like this mod. It adds a bit of uncertainty to an otherwise certain outcome (which itself is boring, IMO).
z929669 Posted September 13, 2021 Author Posted September 13, 2021 I vote to accept this one for 2.0.0
Mercury71 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 I vote yes to (already in my game). Classic RPG. "Realism". And a bit annoying as stated above in the thread.
D1Z4STR Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Recommend removing from the dev guide. dAb is no longer around and mod is closed perms.
DoubleYou Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Why? This isn't an SKSE Plugin, so it should still work.
