z929669 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Discussion thread: Terrain Bump by SparrowPrince Wiki Link Why is this not in STEP?! Vanilla >> Terrain Bump In this set, you get the added bonus of a few (a least 3 affected textures in one shot). Ignore the top half of the screen here. Those objects are random on load. Dropped in 2.2.9.1 due to landscape changes.
JudgmentJay Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I tried it out a while back and it looked pretty... distracting in-game. Not a fan.
TechAngel85 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 After checking out the screenshots I can say I wouldn't include this in my game. It does look quite distracting and "usual"; even weird in some places. Now if he was to make the mod selective to where this effect took place rather than everywhere then I might consider it.
EisDrache Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 That does look ok but just looking at thoes screenshots almost gave me in instant headache i can't imagine what it would do ingame
EssArrBee Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 This might be the only problem:If you over-write any file from unofficial HD packs be warned that theymay not match up 100% if they are REALLY different from the original texture design - otherwiseyou should be fine.Maybe some more screens, those looked over saturated. Personally I'm a fan of using some uncompressed textures, especially for normals.
Besidilo Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'd be pretty surprised if this mod hasn't been discussed by now. I'm fairly sure I talked about it with some STEP members. From what I remember, it doesn't blend in well into the landscape, but I guess it could prove promising if we were to pick the bump maps that actually improve the visuals. In any case, OpticShooter is reluctant to update the mod due to lack of time. But maybe with a few suggestions from the STEP members he'd have a clearer picture of what needs to be fixed?
EssArrBee Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 That is very true, and what time OpticShooter does have he is devoting to WATER and Better Dynamic Snow. Not that I'm complaining because I think we all love those mods, but I wouldn't mind an update to some of his lesser known stuff like That's Ice.

That's great news indeed and I hope he continues. That mod has been pretty much abandoned for close to a year, except for cleaning the ESP that is.
Guest Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'm watching you guys. ;) The screenshots are very old and probably from a test version I made. I then realised I over-did them and toned it down. I personally don't get why people constantly ask for updates as a mod creator. To me, if a mod hasn't had one in ages, then I would assume it is already a good job. People push for updates and this usually leads to sometimes useless (for the sake of) features which can destroy a mods original intentions. Updates can add decent content too, but with BDS and TB there is not much left to do as they (esp. BDS) are at the end of what I can do within reason. This mod is 50/50 as the lighting in this engine can make the terrain look flat regardless of what you have done. If you could actually mess with the terrain attributes like in Unreal I suppose it would bring them out more. I was going to look into this mod and am eyeing an update to see what I can do with it. It is quite a big undertaking though. Making maps from about 100 textures is pretty mind-blowingly annoying because it has to be tested on every instance. I am currently on a short break again and I did want to actually make something new instead of always updating. You kind of get sick working on the same things and it kills your creativity. I don't know how some modders can only have one mod. Thanks for your concerns and all the best. :) Edit: I'll get some new shots up of the latest version. I definitely notice the difference with it when I load the CK. I think that is set to 10 am all the time.
WilliamImm Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Welcome, Prince of Sparrows. If you want the shiny Mod Author nameplate, PM Farlo on the Nexus, so that you are not someone intimating you. Also, it's good that you are working on new screenshots. The front page makes the first impression, after all.
Guest Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Thanks Will. Yeah I suppose I could be anyone, but I hope that ramble proves it LOL. I shall send a PM if I think I'm going to have time to do a bit of posting here in the future. Cheers! :)
WilliamImm Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Well, you should consider it, even if you just want to stick to answering questions and looking for feedback on your mods. There are quite a few reconizable names in the modding community contributing here, including Ethatron (creator of the *opt tools and contributor to OBGE), CaBaL120 (who created the spectacular Book of Silence), and even Vurt (pretty much the best flora modder for Bethseda games). And hey, comments from you are appreciated.

Well enough should be left alone, although I can see updates if new outcomes become possible where they weren't previously. Send Farlo or me a PM on the nexus to get you MA nameplate here on these forums. Welcome, SP ;)
torminater Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Well I think this mod is completely overwritten by our texture replacers at least the last time I checked... If certain edits are made, maybe the normals used here are a lot better?
EssArrBee Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 You would probably installed it in Section G so the normals get picked up. I think these are uncompressed textures which might have some benefit for normals in DX9, since DXT compression is terrible for normals. It would nice if we had access to DC5, I'm not totally sure, but I think DX10 is the when support for DC4/5 started.
