As z mentioned, the site can be posted here only if it is one where mod author, or someone with the mod author's permission, is the uploader.

When going through the STEP process I came across SRO as a Core Mod, if it's a Core mod and there is no download link available then how are we supposed to find/install this mod. Also if external sources could be trusted what would be the current or best version to install? Thanks.

Well we don't care. SRO is not going to be included in STEP for the forseeable future.

Well, we DO care; however, it might be better said that "we are not interested," at this time unless the host is Starac and he is knowingly making his content available for the foreseeable future.

Otherwise, the source is simply one of "us," which is acceptable for personal use, but not for STEP --or the Nexus for that matter, so it is a moot point.

After it was posted that the link was removed

Not quite what he said actually.
z929669 means unless I'm totally mistaken, that any user can post a link for other users to use for themselves (personal use). No one can add it to official STEP Wiki page without an author sanctioned link or in any way imply it is sanctioned by STEP. It is purely a personal post.

One point is I do not know where the removed link was and that particular link is not relevant to the general case which is what I'm commenting on.

An Interesting Elder Scrolls Modding fact:
Wrye the creator of Wrye Bash held the view, that once a modder publicly released a mod they should have no right to then withdraw that mod at a later date. It should become community property. See Wrye Notes: Open Modding for his assessment of the issues.
The community in general held the view prevalent today. This was a major factor leading to Wrye's retirement, as he could not accept this generally. Fortunately for the community, he held to his principles and did not withdraw Wrye Bash, when he left.
I think this was a mistake, The "It's my ball and you can't play with it anymore" attitude is purely selfish and goes agaist all the principles of open source software.
I don't think it will change but it should never have happened in the first place. To often, for example, many good modding retextures, invoving many hours of hard work, are ruined by the original mod being withdrawn for no other reason than author no longer mods.
It makes this community (Elder Scrolls Modding community in general not STEP by the way) a worse place overall. Of course their are exceptions, as always, but to often one withdrawal affects many mods.
Also this makes others wary over even touching abandoned mods at all. Often they become obsolete, even when left up, nobody risks updating them. No matter how easy updating may be, so all suffer from their gradual obsolesance, until finally they cease to work at all.
The basic idea of what a community is and should always strive to be has been lost, it is a inevitable, but regretful, consequence of our selfish society applied to modding.
It is supposed to be enjoyable for us all, that seems to get lost sometimes.

Couldn't of said it better myself. It also comes down to there are alot of modders out there that think there gods gift and there work is better then everybody elses. I sometimes wish there was certain people out there would go around to these certain high and mighty modders and knock them off there high horse.

Actually you know what Nevermind my last statement. He is to selfish and high and mighty. I want nothing to do with his work any more. I stopped using his work in my game a while ago. I stopped trying to support him in any way i can.
