Occasional CTDs - when to be concerned, and when it's just Skyrim
Nebulous112 replied to aaltair's question in General Skyrim LE Support
LMAO, truer words are rarely spoken. Personally, I am still waiting for the v3 update to the Druid's Den player house, which should drop tonight or tomorrow. It will be the third time for me trying to start up a new game for 2.2.9.2. Each time I get to the point of running dynDOLOD, but before I start the new game I find something else shiny I need to add to this playthrough. I am forcing myself to stop after this and actually press the "New Game" button. :-P -
Occasional CTDs - when to be concerned, and when it's just Skyrim
Nebulous112 replied to aaltair's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Depends on the setup. If it's tested tried and true, like a standard STEP extended install, you shouldn't CTD ever. However if you're adding a ton of extra mods with potential conflicts, editing conflicts in TES5Edit, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see the occasional CTD. I am fairly new to modding, but of what I played for STEP Extended 2.2.9.1, I never had a single CTD. This time around, I'm adding 10 or so mods to the lineup, but none with major conflicts, so I am hoping for the same. But, as it is not a tried and true setup (as a straight STEP install is), I don't expect the same level of stability. But if I get a CTD more than once every few playing sessions, I will find a way to make them stop, if I have to drop all of the extra mods, lol. -
Thanks for all the info, Nazenn! I wish you all the best with this mod. You might be interested in this blog post from icecreamassassin, author of Legacy of the Dragonborn among other things. Talks about his findings regarding issues with havok, and his solution.

Also, just to add...if I were you, I would try to just get a standard STEP install done first, with only ENBoost and not a graphical ENB. Add the graphical ENB and adjust the enblocal.ini to fit a graphical ENB after you confirm that the STEP install is working. Might have to install a couple things with different options later for ENB, but it might be easier to troubleshoot if it's a problem with ENB or the STEP install. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, I suppose. Both ways have drawbacks. -
If Apartheid was illegal by virtue of being against "natural law" (whatever that is, see the section in my earlier post regarding morality and law), then how is Russia's state-sponsored discrimination against homosexuals not? By virtue of the degree of discrimination? Where is the line drawn, between acceptable negative discrimination and unacceptable in "natural" law? I believe you stretched a little too far in this post. Unless I misread, I believe your statement regarding apartheid and natural law is a logical fallacy, and contradictory to your previous arguments regarding morality and law. @Tech: I'm with you on Emma Watson. Sadly, I don't think she would consider me right for her, either. Heterosexual or not. Lol. ;-) Edit: Added a quote to reference what post I was talking about. You guys type too quickly for me on my mobile. ;-)

Hey Kross, was that just a typo, or are you using the 2.2.9.1 guide instead of the 2.2.9.2? It makes a big difference...I don't think the old patches are even available for 2.2.9.1 anymore. -
Just to add, I have two SSDs in a RAID 0 configuration, and I also had the "first case" scenario.

Not sure about the giant star thingey, could be because it is the highest upvoted post in the thread, or due to multiple upvotes happening quickly. Or rated "best answer", but I think that throws the post at the very top highlighted in all green. Not totally sure. It probably just means you're a star for helping. Lol And sorry krossbonzz, I am an Nvidia user as well (970m in my gaming laptop). -

Fantastic information, elwaps. This is basically how I assumed the benchmarking was done, but I wasn't 100%. **** it all, now I really have no excuse to put off my own STEP benchmarking. ;-) @Tech, Ess and / or DY - This info would be a great addition in the Performance Benchmarking guide. I certainly don't claim to be a genius, but even after hanging around the STEP forums pretty regularly for a few months, I was still only 75% sure that I would need to do my benchmarks the way elwaps stated. :-/ -
ACCEPTED Cutting Room Floor (by Arthmoor)

Update: I reported this to Arthmoor on the AFKMods forum, and he is looking into it. See this post for his response. -
Hmm, that is really good info to know, DY. Thanks. I noticed you originally started the Updated Bookshelves SKSE Script thread on STEP. Do you still use that mod? Any issues with it?

This is one of the main reasons I haven't attempted to benchmark, yet. I assume one would have to disable any plugins needing missing masters, etc. to run benchmarks before the whole list is done. Not sure with regard to the patches section, as I know that certain things will not work without the patches section, but I don't know whether they would cause immediate CTDs. And of course always run LOOT if load order changes. What I have always done (for 2.2.9.1 when I started using STEP, and 2.2.9.2) is just install the whole thing top to bottom, and then test. Also, I have never watched the videos...but I have heard they are out of date, so they may show you conflicting information from the text. I have always just followed the text, and by the end it does work, unless something was missed. Installing 2.2.9.1 I had no issues. 2.2.9.2 I started fresh on a brand new SSD setup, and I forgot one main thing - when I created the skse.ini, I forgot to create the SKSE folder first! So it was in the wrong spot. It wouldn't even let me create a new game (30 min loading screen followed by CTD with no log errors). After creating the folder and putting the .ini in there, I had no issues. Once you have a solid base (no missing masters, LOOT ran, patches section completed, etc.), I would suggest what Greg always suggests - Sheson's Memory Blocks Log. This will confirm for you that your SKSE memory patch settings are correct (and in the right spot, which mine wasn't). -

This mod has recently been updated, by a new author (Nazenn), in October 2015. From the description page: I have personally been wondering over the last couple days whether to use this mod, or the Updated Bookshelves SKSE Script. This seems to offer more functionality, and I have read about some potential issues with the Updated Bookshelves SKSE Script in the Nexus posts. Does anyone currently use the updated version of this mod? Any issues, or does it work as advertised? Basically, I am hoping to determine which is the better mod out of these two. However, I really only want to put books on my bookshelves (without bugs), so whatever will do that function with the least amount of issues would be a win for me, personally. If there is a general consensus on which mod is more stable, I would recommend that mod as an addition to STEP. A common bug fix such as either of these provides seems like it would be a natural fit for STEP. Edit: Also, just to mention - the description mentions the USKP as a master, but there are two main files for download. One is a USKP version, the other is a USLEEP version. Obviously, for STEP purposes, it would be the USLEEP version.

Good to know, Shadriss. And thanks for the link, cccow. It looks like Unlimited Bookshelves has been fixed, and was updated recently, in October 2015. I'm still unsure which I should go with. I'll throw a post at the Unlimited Bookshelves thread, and see if there are any bites on the line. Let the comparison begin! Lol

Random CTD's, usually at loadscreens.
Nebulous112 replied to battlecarrier's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hmm, I noticed your iMaxAnisotropy setting in SkyrimPrefs (= 1) conflicts with the setting in enblocal (= 8). From DoubleYou's SkyrimPrefs ini guide, the "i" prefix indicates it accepts an integer value, not a boolean (true / false) value. See this for more information. If setting it to 8 in the enblocal.ini, I would also set it to 8 in the SkyrimPrefs.ini. That way, what is not filtered through the game will be filtered by the ENB. Either that, or set it to 0 in SkyrimPrefs. I'm not sure if this would cause CTDs, but I don't think 1 is a valid value for that in SkyrimPrefs. See this post for Boris' related comments on anisotropy. Also, this doesn't apply for your specific situation, but this entry in the enblocal.ini guide is fairly interesting concerning Sheson's Memory patch. -

I'm not sure, to be honest with you. From the description page: Very likely it could, with something like CWO. Might be worth opening in TES5Edit and seeing if there are any conflicts. -

Hmm...I can't seem to figure this out for the life of me. Probably because it's almost 6am and I haven't gone to bed yet. *yawn* Anyway, it seems the instructions in the second post are outdated. When I am logged into the Wiki, I went to this link: http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Nebulous112/SystemSpecs I then clicked edit page. From there, I tried the below instruction: However, there is no "Edit with form" option. I tried a bunch of the different options, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Nebulous -
SKYRIMLE Jaggarsfeld Extended (by TechAngel85)
Nebulous112 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mod Author Topics
Following up on my excitement about the library: Neovalen pointed me out to an even better mod that adds books from the older Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim Book Covers - Lost Library. This mod has 295 books vs 177 books in the Tamriel Compendium which I was going to use. So, unfortunately the upcoming library expansion in Jaggersfeld Extended will not be able to fit all the books I hope to have in my playthrough. It will still hold all the vanilla books, though! With room to spare. I'll just have to divide my eventual collection between vanilla and not. Having a different house contain the "Lost Library" does kind of fit, anyway. :-) Also, this got me looking at various bookshelf scripts...it seems what I proposed in my last post probably isn't possible. And if it was, it would be a whole new mod. It seems just getting books to properly fit on bookshelves needs a whole new SKSE script mod, and doing more beyond just getting books properly on the shelf may be more than SKSE can handle. I looked at Bookshelves Updated SKSE Script, as well as the original bookshelves script SKSE. I also just noticed cccow posted a link to Unlimited Bookshelves, which was just updated by a new author in October 2015. I will have to figure out which works the best out of these three, just to get books properly on shelves. Forget alphabetizing them. ;-) Lol. Anyway, these bookshelves have nothing to do with your mod, but I just thought I would update regarding my previous post. Cheers! -
This bookshelf fix seems to round out the trifecta of book mods that have caught my eye recently. This is a new(er) version of a fix that used to be in STEP, from the above comments. This updated fix may be worth testing and including in STEP if it works as advertised. Note that any issue with book bounds are fixed by Book Covers Skyrim (now even the issues with the Dragonborn books and Spell Tomes). Edit: From the Nexus comments, I am unsure if there are issues with SKSE 1.7.3. Testing may be needed. I can't think of why it would work with older SKSE versions and not the newer, but I'll see if I can test it out in my playthrough. Does anyone currently use this mod, and if so, do you have any issues with it? Or is it functioning as advertised?

This looks like a neat mod to complement Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library. I always thought Skyrim should have a bookstore. I'm adding this to the playthrough as well. :-)

ACCEPTED Book Covers Skyrim - Lost Library (by DanielCoffey)
Nebulous112 replied to Nebulous112's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I must have missed that mod. I even looked on the main BCS Nexus page...compatibility was mentioned for Tamriel Compendium, but no mention of the Lost Library. And the Lost Library is made by one of the same authors! Lol. Anyway, I took a look, and you are right. The Lost Library is a much better mod. More books, seems better polished, and I think it would fit into STEP a lot more nicely considering it is made by the same author as the main BCS mod. I changed the original post and thread title to fit this mod. Thanks for the suggestion! :-) -
DROPPED STEP Optimized Vanilla Textures (by z929669)
Nebulous112 replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Hey guys, When using the Standard version of the STEP Optimized Vanilla Textures, I notice in MO, in the Archives tab, the BSAs are listed in this order: Is this standard behavior to have S1 listed below S2? Do the order of the BSAs even matter, as long as the checkboxes are both ticked (with MO managing archives)? Thanks for any help in relieving my ignorance! :-) -
I like the look of this. Besides the general movement speed changes, which I think were agreed above to be subjective, I like the fact that this also fixes vanilla errors with movement speeds depending on what was equipped. From the description: Bug fixes are always good in my books. I'm going to try this, and hopefully the general movement speed jives with me. I think it will, as only a 7% decrease in run / sprint doesn't seem like much.
