Realistic Water Two - stream Fix [nanoman2000]
Greg replied to FuzzRocket9's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
This mod is no longer available on Nexus. nanoman (aka Ewi65) was banned again. -
I'm assuming you are referring to SkyUI 5.0 in which case have you installed SKSE 1.7.3 yet? Install it if you haven't already to see if this solves the issue. If you have SKSE 1.7.3 installed and active, post your log after trying to install SkyUI. I'm basing the above on a similar situation Grant ran into on Nexus in which SkyUI should prompt that it requires SKSE 1.7.3, but the user had SKSE 1.7.2 installed and got this fuzzy message instead. I don't know if this is the same situation, but if it is it might be interesting to try to figure out why it's happening.

Vivid Landscapes - Tundra Moss Revised (by Aron)
Greg replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
When you install the SMIM Compatibility Path, Mod Organizer opens a dialog showing the name of the mod at the top and the file structure in the big pane in the middle of the dialog along with "No game data on top level" in big red letters. STEP recommends installing the high poly mesh version, so you'll need to do this: Click the triangle next to "high poly mesh (for the same object)" to expand this folderRight click Data below "high poly mesh (for the same object)" and select "Set data directory"The red "No game data on top level" should change to green "Looks good"Click OKDo not right click on the Data that's above "high poly mesh (for the same object)" because this is not the high poly version.- 17 replies

I have to restart Firefox every few days because it gobbles up too memory and either becomes too slow or crashes. I have Adblock Plus, Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus, FiddlerHook, Ghostery, and Lightbeam extensions installed. FiddlerHook is most inactive most of the time, but I just disabled Lightbeam since it's isn't really all that useful. It almost looks as if Firefox (or an extension) has a memory leak since the memory usage goes way up over time. I agree that it used to be a lot more stable than it has been lately. I normally keep about 10 tabs open since I refer to them continuously and don't close the browser. With the past few releases, it usually pops up a message saying something bad happened after a few days and has to restart.

Amazon.com still has The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fifth Anniversary Edition in stock for $12.00 or less, so you should be able to find it floating around places other than Steam. -
Paint my wagon blue? Texure / Mesh Issue
Greg replied to Wycratius's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
The purple color usually indicates a missing texture. In Mod Organizer, click the Archives tab in the right pane, make sure "Have MO manage archives" is checked, and make sure all the archives files (the BSAs) are checked as well. If this isn't the issue, install Mfg Console from Nexus, run Skyrim and then click on the objects with missing textures. Mfg Console shows an expanded view that includes the name of the last mod that modifies the object, the FormId, and a lot of other helpful information. -

There was some discussion a while back about iPresentInterval enabling or disabling VSync and possibly also affecting the timing in the game in some way. Is it still relevant that disabling iPresentInterval affects Skyrim's internal timings?

Added descriptions for iLandBorder1R/G/B and iLandBorder2R/G/B with a picture showing the segmented cell border lines.

You're right, and this is why I was expecting NPCs to try to walk through furniture since the navigation mesh generally puts furniture and other obstacles in an island of sorts. It's possible this setting isn't used in the game or was removed in some update, but I don't have sufficient information at this point to say this conclusively.
-
I was thinking it might be the opposite; specifically, that NPCs might try to walk through furniture since the navigate mesh sets a path around obstacles. If I find an NPC stuck anywhere, I'll save and repeat the experiment to see if this makes a difference. Regarding the menu, I increased the console size to 60% and the text buffer size to 64K. The console doesn't allow specific searches and I find it tends to scroll too much off the top of the buffer. The 64K buffer might be a bit overkill, though.
-
Filled in the [Menu] section with the exception of rDebugTextColor. I toggled various "debug" functions but I don't see any debug text. I also experimented with bUseNavMeshForMovement in the [Actor] section with no noticeable difference that I could see. I started a fight with Lydia in Breezehome and watched her maneuver around the furniture, started a fight with the Whiterun guards so they would chase me all over the Whiterun interior. As far I could tell, the behavior is the same.

You have Mod Organizer installed in the Program Files folder, and this presents all kinds of problems. Secondly, STEP recommends installing Mod Organizer and other tools (TES5Edit, Wrye Bash, etc.) somewhere other than the Skyrim folder. You should move Mod Organizer to some other folder, such as C:\Tools or C:\Utilities or pick a folder name you prefer. It's a portable application, so you can drag and drop the Mod Organizer folder into a folder outside Program Files.
-
Are you using Mod Organizer and following the STEP Guide? If so, you should follow these instructions to configure Mod Organizer to run TES5Edit. This directs the output of DynDOLOD to the C:\TES5LODGenOutput folder. DynDOLOD explicitly does not allow created the LOD files in the Skyrim\Data folder. Click the gears icon . This opens the Modify Executables window. In the Title field, type TES5Edit. For the Binary field, browse to your Skyrim directory and select the TES5Edit.exe application. For the "Argument" field, type -o:"C:\TES5LODGenOutput". Any output folder outside of MO's virtual directory is fine if that is desired. This is required for part of DynDOLOD. Click the Add button. This will add TES5Edit to the executables list. Click OK.

Take this with a grain of salt, but it looks as if perhaps it regenerated the navmesh for a bunch of worldspaces other than your own for some reason. If you browse through the worldspace and drill down into the navigation mesh records, you'll see subtle differences like this: I have no idea if generating the navmesh caused this mess, but it is interesting that it's including a lot of unrelated worldspaces and cells with slight variations in the navigation mesh. I also see that it removes the edits Dawnguard makes to the QASmoke test room (notably removing the water flag).

GUIDE Guide:Skyrim Configuration Settings
Greg replied to Octopuss's topic in Unofficial Skyrim LE Guides
When I set this option, I get a double cursor that's visible and active on the second monitor. This means when the mouse scrolls into the second monitor (such as when turning around) and I click, the focus changes and Skyrim vanishes (meaning Skyrim no longer has the focus and is changed to a background process).- 46 replies

I am having some texture loading issues.
Greg replied to secreth's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yeah, this setting basically enables or disables the memory management features in ENBoost. One of the advantages is that caches a lot of assets in a separate process, so Skyrim can load these assets a lot faster when it needs them again. There may be an initial performance hit when first loading the game, but it pays off significantly in the long run. -

GUIDE Guide:Skyrim Configuration Settings
Greg replied to Octopuss's topic in Unofficial Skyrim LE Guides
This is an application of my making that just uses the same API functions that Skyrim uses. I agree with both of you that we do need to establish a standard for comments, and that comments should not be at the end of a valid setting. My only intent was to find out the various effects semicolons and other special characters have on settings to give us some concrete information, meaning I think we can safely say that the GetPrivateProfile* and GetProfile* functions do ignore lines that start with a semicolon. I know you've already proven this on your own, I just wanted to verify that something like ;bMakeSkyrimCrash=true is a valid comment that can't be read even if explicitly attempting to read ";bMakeSkyrimCrash" as a key.- 46 replies

No, that's just a minor obsessive-compulsive thing and I think most of us have it to one degree or another. For the record, my volume has two be a multiple of two... no idea why, but it just seems odd to have the volume on 19 when 20 is such a lovely number.

Microstuttering in 3rd person running/horseback riding on good rig
Greg replied to scorpgul's question in General Skyrim LE Support
There is very little difference in performance and it's a common misconception that the page file reduces performance. It is possible for the page file to use significant I/O (commonly known as thrashing), but this indicates a significant lack of physical memory for the workload. I think your post that Windows is running low on memory 30 seconds into a playthrough clearly indicates you don't have sufficient physical memory and virtual memory to run Skyrim along with everything else that's running in the background. This may be due to other applications running in the background that are using a lot of memory. You may be able to overcome this by finding and closing applications that are using lots of memory, but you'll have to be willing to keep memory usage below the physical memory limit if you don't have a page file. My best advice is to let Windows manage the size of the page file. 16GB sounds like a lot of memory, but even on my system I have only 2.7GB free before I start Skyrim. Granted, Firefox and two instance of Visual Studio are eating up a little over 3GB but that still leaves 10GB used by the system and other processes. -
Dang... took the words right out of my mouth.
