  1. To me Cabal's textures don't look new as much as a bit more brown or dark. I think that fits the world better because of the damp climate. Anything where I live turns yellowish, almost white because we have no rain. If I go up to the cabin though everything is dark brown and has a saturated look because of the rain, snow, and humidity. Sometimes the pine even has a small touch of red. I'm telling you go to Flakreath in the rain with AMB.
  2. I think the argument was that the covers deviated from vanilla, but I only agree with that in terms of the Core mandate, not Extended. It also fit in the seldom used, "vanilla sucks so bad we are going to add this because of it's awesomeness", like Convenient Horses.
  3. I did not like Rustic when I had them installed a while back. I even took screens to post along side the ones I already did in the AMB thread and didn't post them because they just look bad in game. My favorite with STEP is still AMB, Falkreath has never looked better than what Cabal did. I'd say that AOF should have never dropped either since it is much higher quality than HRDLC and SRO (HRDLC+) maybe even more quality than AMB. The rock wall textures from HRDLC and SRO have this terrible shine to them with vanilla lighting too. Rustic, AOF, and AMB didn't have it to the same extent. I think the indoor textures were the problem with AMB, but it was two textures that can be hidden. I believe that SRO had good interior rock floors, but the ceiling was exactly like HRDLC. Not even sure that Rustic did those. Pelts were in a couple mods too. AMB had the best if I remember correctly, the normal map was the difference there, gave the fur some depth. Just so everyone knows there are also like three more farmhouse texture mods out there. Insanity Sorrow did one that is really nice, but I'd need to see it against vanilla to know how far it deviates.
  4. This one works really well for me though. I use it to start skyrim and it fixes some issues with some alt tab stuff, so smooth going from one to the other.
  5. There are some spots around the city that I could reproduce freezes. I think that is something in the main game. One was right near the water pump building near the fiend territory. I think there was another one near the side by the Mojave Express building. Sometimes just going to other places and doing a quest and then coming back will fix it. Also, try giving your nvac.log to Queue and maybe he can add more exceptions to nvac to make it prevent those freezes/crashes.
  6. Yeah, I agree that Gemling is the best except for that Diamond one. I'll vote for this to be accepted.
  7. You have no idea how bored I am. Not working this summer, so I'm going to have to find something to occupy my time.
  8. EDIDs or FormIDs can both be searched in the CK and TES5Edit so it really doesn't matter. Would there be an Libre office version of that excel power pivot add-on?
  9. I think about half of us have done the same. @fireundubh, you should maybe tell the UPP guys about this script. I bet they'd find quite a bit of use out it or at least curse themselves for having already gone through all the records manually.
  10. Had to add these back to a separate post because the new forum has an image limit. These are the ones from the OP that don't show. vanilla->STEP->amb->aof
  11. Any reason this wasn't moved to testing? It is definitely STEP Extended territory? I could see this making it in. Myabe table it for after we release 2.2.9.
  12. Lotta optionals for this mod, anyone have some suggestions where to start?
  13. Here are the shots for these mods. I see only one issue and that is the mesh on the Stalhrim next to the crypts. There is some stretching, but maybe it can be addressed by the author or maybe Brumbek. I like the semitrans or opaque. I guess cloudy ice is about right depending where it forms and how exposed to water it is.
  14. The link above works. No readme, but one is for people with Hearhtfire and the other isn't. Just disable all the plugins I listed and you are good to go. It will get a release with the next STEP version, but it is such a small plugin that it will work with 2.2.8 if you still have that, just make sure SMIM is up to date.
  15. So do you create the plugin in TES5Edit? I was thinking that would be the simplest way to do it.
  16. That article is from a Core 2 Duo laptop though. RAM doesn't matter at this point because you aren't bringing up the entire BSA to system memory and unpacking only what you need. Also, you can't move 3400MB/s anyways because the Skyrim engine would just laugh at you then explode. The CPU memory controller pulls the assets from the archive on disk memory and then has to move them from DRAM to SRAM to unpack (since the CPU has to run the actual algorithm). Then it gets moved again back to DRAM so it can move onto the GPU (if it is something GPU renders) or stays in SRAM and goes back to the CPU to be processed (scripts are an example of that). That whole process is usually seen as just one time linear time interval depending on size of the data. DRAM or SSD speed can't make the algorithm run faster, the CPU still has to put in the work. I think Ethatron used zlib as an example, but there are other compression types with way higher decomp times and that second test was with a an i5 @2.7GHz. I'm using an i5 @3.4GHz ATM so I'm going to get almost 400MB/s with zlib. But, since BSAs might not even use zlib, yes, I agree we need a test for BSAs. And, yes we need a BSA codec test.
  17. Nah, it doesn't. When you reinstall, it just overwrites the date that was already there with the same data, so no biggie.
  18. Nope just get the new mods and drag them into the correct order in the left pane of MO. There are few core mods that need to be reinstalled with Extended compatibility. There are only a couple so be on the lookout for those when installing the extended mods.
  19. The salt thing is super subtle. All it does is add leveled list entry to make vendors carry between 1 and 6 salt piles when you visit them. For needs mods you'll like it because of salt being needed for recipes.
  20. 1. - yes - no, but you can can install other mods if you want - download multiple versions that way you can install the version you want should you decide to install something else down the road 2. - If you are just testing to see if the game starts do not use a bashed patch after every section, just leave it unchecked until you are finished - ENBoost should be used, but it isn't mandatory like SKSE or USKP.... If you want to avoid the memory crashes though it is really god for that.
  21. Do you think changing the compression level with DDSopt/BSAopt makes a difference? I repacked some FNV stuff at the highest setting and the game wouldn't even start. I have a theory that higher compression takes to long to decompress since the files were less that 50% their original size. Like going from raw WAV to MP3 basically. EDIt: Also, does archive.exe generate a plugin?
  22. Anyone? I know you're out there. If I get no input then I'll probably not distribute anything other than the regular patches.
  23. I'm pretty much a fan of these over VW. I think maybe one or two from VW were better, but the majority from RW are just nicer. Maybe a few more pictures at night to see the glow with the different versions up against VW would do some good. If they are better than VW at night too, then we can get these in for 2.2.9.
  24. removed from testing since no one like it.
  25. Okay, Gremling Queen compared to Improved Gemstone. Now that I look at what IG does, I think I could use the meshes from it on top of GQ. I think it has really good meshes and fixes the Diamond Claw. I'll take some shots, shouldn't take to long. Nope they don't work together.
