  1. Thanks for the advice guys, but I've been busy lately and I just found out my brother's birthday present is a new rig, so it looks like I won't be able to see this through. Let's hope some other poor soul can find a use for it.
  2. I think he's looking for more than a "well look at them!" and personally this answer is a little lacking from someone boasting about their work so much.  More details and examples would help on two faces.  On one, your insights would provide another mind on the matter and help us determine the "best" textures, both through whatever empirical means we can and by allowing us to pick at a texture artist's brain.  On top of that, it will probably be good advice for other authors looking to improve their own work.  If you can write more, please do.  The more information there is, the more we can all understand about textures and develop better criteria for analyzing them.  As far as TPC, it compiles all the conflicting graphics mods to both make it easier for users to install and Cestral has put a ton of work into comparing the textures and selecting the best available.  Once again, your insights on his choices (beyond "mine are best") would be greatly appreciated here and will help both Cestral and the community "develop their tastes" as it were to make the whole process even better. TL;DR - Prove it.
  3. If it's running well on the laptop that's great, I generally wouldn't hold my breath on those.  If you're worried about overheating, I'd suggest you grab the free version of HWMonitor (made by the CPU-z guys).  It'll let you see the temperatures of your CPU, GPU, and any case sensors the laptop may have.  Every machine is different and of course lower is always better, but you're usually safe as long as it's not going above 75C.  If you plan on gaming on it, just make sure it's on a desk with plenty of ventilation and nothing obstructing the fans.  Depending on how old/used it is, it might also be a good idea to get in there with some canned air and a vacuum to get the dust out.
  4. I have a 2500k and an AMD 6870 (1GB VRAM) and I can run the game swimmingly by just using the lite/performance/<2k resolutions for everything, which is basically Baseline, so you should be fine with that. Â If you wanted to go through DDSopt or the other texture optimizations, you can probably get away with some higher resolutions, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Â Search the forums/Wiki and you can find several threads about all that. Basically, everything that's being rendered has to be stored in VRAM (your graphics card's RAM), and the problem with all these super-HD mods is that each texture is now a few megabytes (vs. <1MB for the vanilla 512x512 files) and when that 1GB of VRAM gets filled up, your rig has to do more work to move files off of VRAM and load them from the HDD more often, which causes the stuttering and lower FPS.
  5. Moved the thread to the Support/Troubleshooting board, seemed more appropriate. Stopping's been doing some major work on the Wiki, and a bunch of other mod pages are gone (temporarily) as well.  I've restored the page and hopefully it won't disappear anymore; sorry for the inconvenience.
  6. I was going to try that, but I figured I'd end up re-loading so often it'd ruin my game, so I just try my best and run with it without killing anyone. Â So far I've done alright and haven't been totally seen yet. Â I can't recommend SweetFX enough, with some tweaking the game looks a lot better. Â I'm not sure why they went with the washed-out look, and the shadows/clutter remind me of Rage with the green tint.
  7. I got this one as well, and I gotta say it's pretty good. It's been compared to a stealth-based Bioshock, and I kind of agree (don't see a huge connection with AC except you assassinate people), although it improves in a lot of areas. One of the best mechanics is the movement system; it's really fluid but still feels realistic and the ability to look around corners and climb objects seamlessly is really nice. It might not be as "hardcore" as some games in terms of punishing you for screwing up (I'm playing on Hard), but it's still challenging and often rewards exploration and creativity. The art design is very cool; reddit coined the terms "whalepunk" as it's set in a Neo-Victorian London where whaling is their primary business. Unfortunately I don't see the true colors that often as I'm almost always using the see-though-walls/infrared-vision ability (it can be maintained permanently with almost no downside, bit OP IMO) which tints the screen orange. The backstory's really cool and the city they built is well thought out, but the PC's progression isn't as enthralling as I'd like, at least not after the first 3 missions. Overall I'd say it's a fun game with some great ideas, but I don't think the writing will be winning any awards.
  8. They don't blend with the environments very well, but by themselves they are definitely an improvement over Vanilla. I'd like to see them a little more "worn", not like the mammoth was picked clean the night before you arrived. Also, boy do those things need an HD mesh.
  9. One moment, let me unstick my jaw from the floor.
  10. Not quite STEP oriented, but absolutely amazing nonetheless.
  11. Welcome to the forum Klotim! If you'd like a shiny Mod Author nameplate, send me a message on Nexus to confirm it's really you. I haven't looked at your mod in detail, but I wanted to add a quick comment regarding the seemingly harsh feedback this forum is full of. Â Try not to take the critiques with offense, however hard that may seem as we tear apart the project I'm sure you've spent many hours on. Â We're all here to dissect mods and assemble them into the best compilation we can. Â With this goal in mind, it becomes necessary to pick apart every aspect of a mod and examine it with a fine-toothed comb. Â If you'd like an example, check out the two Beta threads in the Mod Testing forum. Â What I believed to be a well-put-together set of mods amassed several hundred posts picking it apart in a matter of days. Â But that's part of the game and I bet you'll find few communities that can offer the amount of critical feedback we do (without being banned for saying so). Â Leverage this to your advantage, and your mod can only end up better. Â Also, be aware that not everyone is entirely fluent in English and that text can't often convey the entire meaning to a thought, so it's best to carry a few grains of salt with you.
  12. A temporary solution is to press "Shift+F12" to toggle DoF, but if you're looking for a permanent solution, check out our new ENB article.
  13. We need an update for Ruins Clutter Improvement v2.3 >.
  14. I definitely agree that it's entirely borked but Bethesda, Valve, and any other game developer that supports modding are examples of those who don't actively hunt down ever "infringer" and still maintain their trademarks. Â In the most strict reading of the law, I'm pretty sure all the bugfixes, minimal texture remodels, and stuff like the HD DLC Optimized would be illegal since they edit and redistribute Bethesda's assets. Â There's also fan fiction, which does exactly what MERP is doing: use the imaginary world and creative works to create new material directly related it. Â In both cases (and many others) it's clear that in the case of modding you don't have to hunt down non-profit fan works, you get to keep your trademark, and most importantly: your product/brand/IP is enhanced by the wealth of improvements, additions, alterations, etc. that a community has rallied around and worked to supply... for free! TL;DR - There's definitely a lot douchebaggery and upper management afoot.
  15. I didn't think that many people still launched it from Steam since we really push for the mod managers, but maybe it's worth making a note for in that section of the guide? I wonder how many people use MO and try to launch from Steam as well.
  16. Check your key bindings, or even reset them to make sure that's not it. Â If you still can't, deactivate Categoriezed Favorites Menu and CFM-Oni Edition in your mod manager and try again.
  17. Search before you post! Merged the threads.
  18. MERP (Middle Earth Roleplaying Project) has received a C&D letter from WB Boo!
  19. The ESP is needed; it's what switches the texture based on the staff's type. The "staff" object normally only has one texture, no matter what effect it may have, so there has to be a script of some kind to differentiate between the enchantments and apply the correct skin.
  20. Well damn, wish I knew about this one. Â Definitely going in the next version... thanks for pointing it out :P
  21. Wow, nice! Post them to the Nexus :P
  22. Glad you like it, can't wait to make it look even awesomer.
