  1. Later today we'll be releasing v2.2.1 of STEP which no longer has TPC in it, so unfortunately I encourage you to follow that guide. The performance increase you'll get from using the "light" versions really depends on your computer, in particular the amount of VRAM you have. In the STEP guide you'll notice that we generally specify a "baseline" version of the mods. This is usually done with 1-1.5GB graphics card in mind. Unfortunately it basically comes down to trial and error to test the limits of your machine. I suggest you also use Wrye Bash or Mod Manager if you're not, they will allow you to test different versions of the mods to see which works best. We generally suggest a fresh installation of Skyrim before following STEP, especially if you did everything manually. You can either follow this guide to return your current installation to a "Vanilla state" or start over following our Skyrim Installation Guide for best results. In either case you'll also want to use new saves (or possibly clean your current ones) as removing and adding a lot of mods that aren't purely assets can have a lot of issues.
  2. It appears as though the template doesn't like the question mark in the URL es evidenced by this edit, although I'm not entirely sure why. I also find it much easier to deal with Wikilinks by using title as it appears on the Wiki. That is, use "&" instead of "%26" and " " instead of "_", it seems to behave better for some reason. There might not be any technical reason to do so, but I always preferred applying any formatting outside of the link notation, i.e. " '''[[A Page|Text]]''' ", seems cleaner IMO and it might prevent adverse reactions with the external links. You can view any previous revision of a page by going to Page Tools -> History. (Link to SIG's history page.) From there you can compare the contents of any two revisions by selecting their radiobuttons or view the page as it was during that revision by clicking on the timestamp for it. When you're viewing an old revision you can even go to Edit and copy the old source, just make sure not to hit save otherwise you'll undo all of the edits from that point on. This revision seems to have all of your older edits (before I butchered them :P), so copy whatever you want from there back on to the current page.
  3. Although the implications are much worse, it's harder to "market" CISPA as it were. It doesn't directly authorize the shutdown of websites or anything like that, it's mostly about information tracking and sharing and I don't think most people (even those who regularly use the Internet) quite grasp just how much data is being gathered and how that information could be used for "evil".
  4. Not to be a cynical ******, but the whole thing is just insane. The fact that a bunch of old dudes, some of whom are off their rocker and most haven't taken a STEM class beyond what was needed for college admission, get to arbitrate anything related to technology or the Internet pisses me off to no end. Don't even get me started on the corporations either...
  5. The options in the HRDLC tab were not just about using Bethesda_Hi-Res_Optimized. Half them are for users with high end machines that wouldn't use it all. It's reasonable have the specific Bethesda_Hi-Res_Optimized options on the mod page, and we can certainly simplify the HRDLC options to do this. However, this is the only place where we provide rough guidance on how to proceed depending on system capabilities. The STEP guide has three system categories, but we never tie these to VRAM or similar computer properties; the SIG guide is the only place where we do this. Even if we add such information to the STEP guide, we still need to somewhere tie computer capabilities to how the HRDLC is used. I suggest we add simplified version of the options, as described above, back to the SIG. Alternatively, if there is another place to put that's fine, but I don't think it should be the DDSopt guide since IMO we wouldn't expect all users to use DDSopt procedures the very first time they are following the STEP process. I can add these if you want. That makes sense to me. Go ahead and add back what you think needs to be added, perhaps I got a little trigger happy :P We do mention that Baseline is ~1GB of VRAM, it says so in the system specs on the Guide.
  6. You should definitely ask him ;)Â At the very least we should add a link to it. Glad you got it fixed Hvergelmir.
  7. It's not needed if you use Mod Organizer, but  maybe if you use Wyre Bash excelusivly. I really don't think this is necessary since the only Vanilla assets not in a BSA are the English strings and the BIK intro video. If the user followed our instructions they'd have these backed up in the full Vanilla archive anyways. The best ref we have for establishing a vanilla base is the Troubleshooting Guide (which also needs updated but for the first tab). The SIG is looking more manageable. Has anyone checked on how it looks now in the context of the STEP Guide? Meaning that when linked to from the SG, do the links take to to parts of the SIG that align well with the SG section that linked?I haven't looked at the links, but I'll go through and update those now. IMO what the general user needs is pretty much done, I'm not going to bother with the last few tabs. EDIT: Updated all the links, thankfully most point to the guide in general and not a specific part.
  8. Since the DLCs are packed in ESP/BSA format, all you need to do is disable the Dragonborn ESP and Skyrim won't use any of the files. It will be uninstalled as far as Skyrim is concerned (but still on your hard drives).
  9. We should invite him to host his guide (or a copy of it) on the Troubleshooting Guide.
  10. While I do not use Crossfire, I would be willing to update the guide to not be completely pictorial, and actually be written in words. That would be fantastic. I'm not sure what the "ideal" settings are or anything, but if you need instructions or images if it set up properly in the CCC let me know, those are easy.
  11. I made a few major edits, first from moving all the HRDLC Optimized text to the HRDLC page and shortening it quite a bit. I Removed the Steam tab since that entire part was explaining to install it on another drive even though it's not necessary anymore. I also removed the entire Utilities section as these will be installed with STEP. I'm leaving a link to the old previous revision so we can migrate any relevant info to the mod pages. Finally, I broke the filetype and directory information into a new tab after Mods and placed the "Congrats, you're done with the instructions" footer at the bottom of the HRDLC tab.
  12. You will have a lot of conflicts anyways, there are quite a few mods that overlap on files, especially the overhauls like HRDLC Optimized, Skyrim HD and Serious HD, there's got to be several hundred conflicts between those alone. The raw number of conflicts isn't what matters, it's which file ends up being used. I really hope you took our advice and used WB or MO to install STEP because we're about to release a new version with a ton of updates.
  13. Sounds like HRDLC to me, I'll move the mod page and copy the HRDLC Optimized instructions right now, after that let's see if we can shuffle anything around as Z mentioned.
  14. I always call it HRDLC, but others want to undermine me >:I always use HRDLC. I only use HDDLC in response to posts that are using that to avoid some confusion.I thought we decided on HDDLC at some point in the past because our short name for "HDDLC Optimized" does it. If you guys prefer the other way then revert me (and I'll move the mod page), I don't care which we use as long as it's consistent.
  15. There have been a few big names supporting it recently, namely Gabe Newell and the guy from id that I can't remember. Unless one of the other giants actively tries to shut them down I can't see it being a total failure, and it might even be a decent success. As Monty said, my money needs to be locked up so it's not running away to them. (So that's why we need bank vaults!)
  16. The only time you wouldn't be installing the HDDLC is if you have <1GB of VRAM, so I think we can leave that bit as a note/warning on the SIG and then have them follow the instructions on the HDDLC Optimized page (which will also say the same thing). As you said, they install other mods in between, but the only mod that could interfere is the UHRP, but shouldn't that be installed as a BSA or via WB/MO anyways?
  17. After the v2.2.1 release we're going to be making a lot more frequent updates, hopefully on the order of a few changes per week/every other week as needed, so don't expect the mod lists to be totally static for several months anymore.
  18. According to Photoshop they are literally identical (normal as well). Re-defined Dungeons doesn't allow modifications without permission (of which I see none), looks like somebody's getting reported... EDIT: Author claims he is the author of Re-defined Dungeons (post).
  19. The one example looks pretty good. Need more screenshots :P
  20. I see what you mean about the HDDLC page; we could also move some details of using Vano's mod to the page for that mod. We would need to mention for these two mods that the user needs to read the mod page for installation details since there is a lot more information than usual on the mod page. I think the info that goes past an individual mod such as the installation combinations using HRDLC & Vano's mod need to be in SIG but perhaps some of the other details can move. I still think we also need the equivalent of a QuickStart guide for using DDSOpt. Whoops... I am way too tired. We don't have a mod for the HDDLC itself, I was referring to the HDDLC Optimized page. We can add pretty much the entire "Select the option that best suits your VRAM limitations" section of the SIG to the HDDLC Optimized page and rename the DLC tab to HDDLC. IMO installing and optimizing the HDDLC is part of installing the Base Skyrim, not necessarily STEP (thus why it's not in the mod tables). I agree, but I'm not going to touch the DDSopt stuff with a 10 foot pole, you and Z can have fun with that one :P
  21. Yup, that sounds good to me, just not paying attention that well at the moment :P I actually like the name "Guide:Skyrim Reference" or even just "Guide:Reference". If we started offloading all the non-essential information here I think the rest of the guides would be a lot more trim and understandable for normal users. Plus when the info's in a guide that's not viewed as much we can not care about presentation as much :P Using some logic on the page would be interesting, but there's not much we can do except toggle various chunks of text as hidden/shown, and I don't think Stopping ever got around to implementing that 100% either. Regarding the HDDLC stuff on the HDDLC page: We have a page for every mod in STEP (HDDLC's page) with plenty of room for installation instructions and a direct tie to the STEP Guide. Since the Optimized DLC is part of STEP I figured we should keep it's installation instructions on that page so you can find it from the STEP Guide more easily. Then the DLC section of the SIG can just be about optimizing the DLC files before any mods are applied.Â
  22. Most of the options for the Optimized HDDLC require the HDDLC, it's just the "Full 1024" that doesn't use them. Also, the UHRP is included in v2.2.1, might as well start referencing it since it's here to stay (unless Bethesda fixes every issue o.0)
  23. I'm going to make a few more changes to the DLC section but I also want to point out some other issues that need attention: "Hybrid (1024 + 2048) + DDSopt reduced size normal maps" under the DLC tab - I'm not really sure what this is referring to, there's not much of a description as to what this entails or what to do to achieve it.Steam tab - You can now change the installation directory without moving Steam entirely.Skyrim tab - This page can be consolidated a lot and probably link to much better explanations than we provide. In particular the File types table is rather useless for most people and definitely doesn't have any effect on Skyrim Installation. The HDDLC stuff - Perhaps we should move this to the HDDLC page so it can easily be linked to from the guide so everyone is installing it properly. The Hacks and Utilities tabs could use some love as well, a lot of the information isn't presented well and there are a few out-of-date pieces as well.IMO it might be worth breaking most of the auxiliary information off into another guide, a lot of the information doesn't directly pertain to Skyrim's installation. With the goal of helping people set up properly before installing STEP (and provide the best launchpad for heavy modding in general), it really doesn't need to be so dense.Â
  24. I updated the forum name and description with a link to the Wiki page. Neovalen, let me know (preferably via PM, I'm not checking here very often) if you want anything changed.
  25. I removed the minimum height but I'm not seeing a different font size (except for the heading of course).  When I'm not exhausted I'll see about making the heading and width optional as well. When I look at it now it looks looks the font sizes are the same. Probably more important is to see if the way I organized the content into the main body and sidebar seems useful for the topic of the page. In the process of editing the page, once I moved the system options section up, it didn't seem like some of the existing content was needed. I also simplified the material at the top of that page since there are more detailed discussions elsewhere. First things I noticed is that it's rather dense, or at least appears that way. You're also not speaking in the third person in some places. I'm making a pass and tried to simplify things a bit, only finished the 1GB section. Once the DLC tab is finished I think we just need a review of the Steam and Mods tabs and we're good.
