DROPPED Interface Hard Coded Key Tweaks (by crazy-g)
TechAngel85 replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Fact of the matter is, it's an "odd ball" mod that can be skipped by many that don't need it, do not want it, or want to use a different mod in its place. The mass majority of mods in STEP will benefit everyone. This one does not and the users that don't know what it's purpose is or don't need a mod such as this might install it only because it's included in the main STEP mod tables. Thus, it might not be a utility but it fits into that section because of it's nature and it's "choice" use by users. I'm of the opinion we should not include mods in STEP that only benefit one group of users. Many 3rd person mods have been turned away for this very reason and this mod should not be an exception to that same reasoning. -
SKYRIMLE aMidianBorn Roads and Bridges by CaBaL
TechAngel85 replied to statmonster's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
CaBal is probably one of the few authors that could pick up and continue SRO in it's original artistic style, thus expanding it to all the DLCs. In fact, he could probably make a very similar product to SRO that covers the original game and the DLCs in a vanilla-friendly style. Combine a product like that with Vurt's flora overhaul and Skyrim would become one gorgeous landscape! -
Would properly be a bit tricky since SweetFX does not add an option to go in and alter specific lighting values like ENB does. The strength in ENB is that it takes the values directly from the game and alters them. SweetFX only reads the output and then changes the entire scene at once. It can effectively only see the color values in the final rendered image after adaptation, bloom etc etc. :( In that case, the closest I could come in mimicking is to change the vanilla colors via INI before SweetFX sees them and alters them. With the combination, it might be possible to come close, but next exact.

There isn't any specific uninstall instructions; however, I would move to an interior in the saves that it would affect, save, exit and uninstall, then reload those saves and saving inside the interiors again to clean them.

DROPPED Skyrim Distant Detail (by Kazoomie - Dovahsbane)
TechAngel85 replied to MadWizard25's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'd like to hear from Z, but with the support of the Mods and Admin it seems like an obvious replacement. We'll just need to find the best install option for STEP (assuming there are options). -
I like that you guys mentioned color correction because that is the main reason I used SkyRealism ENB - Cinematic. I liked the coloring better that vanilla because they were more alive without the heavy saturation that a lot of ENBs add. (even your preset here for SweetFX is too saturated for my personal tastes, VoidNull) In ENBs I disabled all the fancy features like AO and Bloom; however, even running the ENBs with most of the features disabled the performance hit was just too much. I was tired of being forced to play at 1366x768 just to maintain playable framerates. Since I've abandoned SkyRealism (which I highly recommend for anyone wanting to use ENB), I can now play Skyrim with a full STEP installation at the max resolution on my laptop (1600x900). So much better! Reading this gives me hope that SweetFX could possible be made to mimic the color correction that the Cinematic preset of SkyRealism provided for me without the heavy performance loss. If I had more time, I would most definitely play around with it until I could mimic it.

I'm challenging the inclusion of this mod in STEP. It replaces vanilla wave sounds with wave sounds that include seagulls where no gulls are located in the game. This would also make it against Mandate. Any seconds? Thirds?

Might be a wise move. RCRN is becoming a bit "old school" it would seem in the community. I rarely hear about it anymore.

ACCEPTED Re-Defined Dungeons WIP (by Gizmo)
TechAngel85 replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'd like to see compares of this mod vs The Beauty of Skyrim - Dungeons and possibly replace it. -
Coin collecting 101...never! chemically clean your coins! I provided the shot I did because it appeared to be pure. I can't be positive; however, in appearance most of these appear to have been given a chemical bath which will make them shine in such a way (not to mention degrade their value in most cases). The second shot is the most likely as that "purpling" on the coin is most likely from the chemicals reacting with the gold. (yes, i shamefully admit I have a coin collection of my own) In any case, it would seem we'll need some in-game compares. True, but unless the Dwemers forged all the coins or the tech to do so in detail was stolen from them, I would say the argument is value. Especially considering you fail to find any of this tech outside of the ruins themselves in other places in the game.

DROPPED Skyrim Distant Detail (by Kazoomie - Dovahsbane)
TechAngel85 replied to MadWizard25's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm recommending this mod be tested against and possibly replaced by The Skyrim Distance Overhaul. SDO is more recent and covers more areas. -

I'm recommending this mod be moved to utilities as it isn't useful for all users. Any seconds? Thirds? -
DROPPED Distant Decal Fix (by SparrowPrince)
TechAngel85 replied to JudgmentJay's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm challenging this mod for inclusion in STEP. The majority of the fixes are already included in the USKP making this mod obsolete. -
ACCEPTED Dead Body Collision Fix (by LargeStyle)
TechAngel85 replied to rootsrat's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm advocating to install the original version only for Core (optional file). The main version adds a non-vanilla spell to the game which isn't consistent with Core. -
Well, if you want to get technical, Z is correct about the detail. The level of detail in the retexture is not accurate for the time period, even if it's forged in Cyrodiil. Also, the color is off in the retexture. It's not of any gold color I've ever seen on any gold coin that isn't modern. The modern coins come close to the color; however, these coins are very pure and highly polished. Older coins from similar eras that Skyrim would be from aren't as pure or polished. This means vanilla is closer. Need proof? Okay. Search "Roman Gold Coin" on Google Images. The Roman's were a very wealthy and advanced civilization for its time. You can see the level of detail, or lack there of, in the Roman coins. The below coin (Roman) is a good example. There is some detail there; however, not the level that the Septim HD provides. Also note its color.

I could take it or leave it. It's not that big of a factor unless you look at them really up close. (who's standing around staring at coins instead of playing the game?) Personally, I grab them up so quickly I've never noticed the detailing on the coins.

Thanks! I see the bright snow issue with RCRN in the vanilla shot (of course it's not "real" vanilla seeing RCRN and ELFX is still used but provides a good idea). You've done a good job. More saturation, a little more brightness, and a bit more contrast is seen.

Author states it's not as good as ENB which I why I'm most curious about compares to vanilla. Not too mention ENB compares would could take forever because of the vast amounts of them. However, if someone wants to tackle that, have at it! :D Thanks for the information, VoidNull. If you'll send a PM to Z or Farlo on Nexus, they'll set you up with a Mod Author badge here on the STEP forums.

The lite version I wouldn't recommend without SMAA (if that's possible) Since you have to turn off all hardware AA, the lite version is a drab. However, the High version looks promising since FXAA is turned on and the "jaggies" are mostly gone. If it can still be paired with SMAA then that could take care of that while keeping the lite version. As for the Ultra, I'm not sure how I feel about the Gaussian blur. Altogether the Ultra with the full effect most definitely gives the game a different "feel" that I'm sure some will love. I would like to see some comparative screenshots between vanilla and the High version.

SKYRIMLE The Beauty of Skyrim - Caves and Mines
TechAngel85 replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm in a love/hate relationship with this mod. The author's dungeon mod is great; however, this one isn't a good. I would say the majority of the textures are excellent but the cave walls have been smoothed out a bit too much. Also, it might just be his shots, but the fog is much thicker in the BOS shots than it is in the vanilla shots which I don't like. -

ACCEPTED Run For Your Lives (by Arthmoor)
TechAngel85 replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
You might have a mod that is overwriting some of the changes. Try moving it down in your load order a bit or even towards the bottom. -
MO can check for "file conflicts" just like WB checks for them. Neither "resolve" the conflicts though. File conflicts are a normal part of modding though. I believe what you are asking is the conflicts between the mods themselves and how they work. That would have to be done using TES5Edit as far as I know. BOSS can tell you if a mod needs to be cleaned from UDRs and ITMs; however, TES5Edit is the only program I know that can actually check for conflicts and allows you to resolve them by either copying records from one mod to the other (such as if a mod doesn't carry over changes from the DLCs or Unofficial Patchs) or by creating a new ESP patch that resolves the issues between the two mods. This is all consider more advanced modding though. Read through and follow Neovalen's SR Guide to get a better understanding and learn how to use these tools. (STEP will be incorporating some of this in the next release so it'll be good to learn).
