[WIP] Mod Picker
TechAngel85 replied to Terrorfox1234's question in Mator's Utilities Support (archived, read-only)
Congrats on the beta! -
I haven't had any issues besides the random crash. I started logging them and it seems some of them are known, common issues that could have be prevented by the Crash Fixes mod. I have that mod installed now and haven't had a crash since. I've playing with STEP:Extended plus a few other mods on top.

suggestion for STEP guide w.r.t. ENBoost
TechAngel85 replied to dps_kane's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
I'm currently running the Dev version for testing. If you do this, keep in mind there are not any STEP Dev Patches so you'll have to patch up any conflicts yourself using xEdit. -
You can't compare apples to oranges. In real-world tests, if you're going to compare two processors it has to be at the same clock speed, else the results are skewed in favor of the processor with the higher clock regardless if it is their stock speeds or not. This is why most generic benchmarks will say that Haswell successors are faster. I'm also specifically referring to gaming. I'm sure the successors are more efficient in some more heavily CPU oriented applications, but 90% of consumers do not run such applications nor do "hard-core" gamers or "power users". Such applications are geared toward professionals and enthusiasts.

I have no plans to move away from Windows 7 or Haswell for some time. Windows 7 support will completely end in 2020. I'll likely remain on Windows 7 for at least until SSE is more fully supported by the modding community. As for my processor, the Haswell architecture has been shown to outperform it's successors in many applications. I have yet to even have the need to apply an overclock to my K-version i5. The minimal gains have yet to be worth the time and effort. The main benefit of the Haswell successors are the lower TDPs which I'm not concerned about.

suggestion for STEP guide w.r.t. ENBoost
TechAngel85 replied to dps_kane's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
Yes, the Dev Guide is still in development, but we would not make such changes to the live Guide anyway. I just wanted to point out that most of this has already been taken care of for the next release. I've updated the BethINI page to read: That should clear any confusion up. Users shouldn't install an ENBSeries Preset while installing the STEP Guide, so users shouldn't have to even worry about what an ENB Preset is at this point in the installation. -
Actors will get stuck from time to time. That's just Skyrim being Skyrim. Nothing to worry about. I've played through level 40 with only a handful of CTDs. To me, that is stable. If you get the occasional random crash, try using Crash Fixes with the default settings. That will often take care of the issue or at least log the issue so you have an idea of where to look to fix the problem.

Mod Organizer "failed to initialize renderer
TechAngel85 replied to ShiftyPrick's question in Mod Organizer Support
You have to have the version installed that the game requires. Multiple versions installed are okay. As for the low settings, check to ensure in your SkyrimPrefs.ini that the correct card is listed under [Display] and its not listing your integrated graphics. -
Query Regarding Missed Book of Silence Hotfix/Patch
TechAngel85 replied to CacklingIdiot's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
No need to reinstall everything. Simply install the Content Add-on and then redo section N of the Guide to be safe. -
suggestion for STEP guide w.r.t. ENBoost
TechAngel85 replied to dps_kane's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
I believe I've already taken care of all this in the Dev Guide when I went through the Guide making changes for clarity. As for the videos, they are only there for reference. They're not meant to actually show you what to do for STEP. -
HP Pavilion thoughts?
TechAngel85 replied to PlukovnikPravda's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I wouldn't. For a laptop you're going to need something closer to one of these in the graphics card department to play smoothly at High settings. If you choose a graphics card that is even lower on the pole than the ones I've listed, then keep in mind the lower your settings will have to be to play smoothly. Lower than one of these and you'll be looking more into Medium settings on most games. Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M GeForce GTX 880M GeForce GTX 680M AMD Radeon HD 8970M Radeon HD 7970M Sorry to say but if you're looking for a laptop to game on as your main system, you're going to be spending between $800-$1500. That's the trade off for mobility...cost. -
Colored Skeletons and HDT issues
TechAngel85 replied to jhuzeN's question in General Skyrim LE Support
You can just use this one. I've updated the title so that others will see there are some issues with your HDT. -
Colored Skeletons and HDT issues
TechAngel85 replied to jhuzeN's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Those are actually idle/animation and other markers that are used to make NPCs do certain tasks among making the game do specific things. They mean nothing to normal players. You basically just got a look at the building blocks of the game. As for HDT, I've never used it so I can't be of any help to you there. -
Colored Skeletons and HDT issues
TechAngel85 replied to jhuzeN's question in General Skyrim LE Support
In your Skyrim.ini, find "bShowMarkers=1" and set it to "0" or delete the line. I don't know why this would have been turned on unless you copied over someone's INIs because the default is "0". There are likely other issues. I would recommend you running BethINI. -
Are you using an ENB?

Yes, if you have ENBSeries installed correctly, you should always see those messages. -
Concerns about my GPU utilization
TechAngel85 replied to Bandus's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I agree. You likely have nothing to be concerned about, if the game is running okay. -
Putting together a rig for modding, need advice
TechAngel85 replied to phosphor's topic in Step Banter Inn
In regards to your question about the CPU, I don't think you'll need more than an i5 for any modern game (Linus Media Group recently backed this up in one of there videos). With that said, modern games (Witcher 3, Fallout 4, etc) will utilize more of the CPU than past games like Skyrim. FO4 has been reported to use even HT cores in the 5 minute Google search I did. This means it will most definitely use most of the power that your i5 can put out, if/when it needs it. Keep in mind the CPU power FO4 uses will depend on area of the game, mods installed, game settings, screen resolution, etc. With this in mind, getting an i7 would not be a bad decision; however, I can't say that I see it would be "needed" to play the game on Ultra settings. The GPU is much more important and you have a good one picked out. Playing at 1080p with the i5 will keep you in the acceptable FPS range of 40-60. Moving up to an i7 will put you closer to the 50-60 range. FO4 is still operating on a terribly optimized engine regardless of all the updates Bethesda did to it, and most benchmarkers seem to agree that the game is greedy on resources for little reason when compared to games with a similar graphic/effect fidelity. -
Wrye Bash STEP guide bash patch creation
TechAngel85 replied to Techwolf's question in Wrye Bash Support
Step 4: Can't get much clearer. Just click OK. Leave everything else alone. Don't overthink it. :: Step 5: Tick=Checked ...meaning make sure they are checked. If not, check them. In the event of an update, we would update the instructions. This is the same for any mod in STEP; nothing new for us. I've changed to wording on this step to be more clear. Step 10: Only re-enable WM Trap Fixes.esp... If you had to re-enable the other mods, then your Bashed Patch was not made correctly. Recheck all plugins (even the dummy plugins), ensure you have "Have MO manage archives" unchecked on the MO Archives tab, ensure all the archives are checked on that tab, ensure your Overwrite folder is empty, delete your old Bashed Patch. Now redo it. Be sure you're doing the instructions in the MO Note on the page you linked. My Bashed Patch is only 119KBs. The Patch is not going to be something that is big since it only contains text information in the form of records. -
ACCEPTED Verdant - A Skyrim Grass Plugin (by Preeum)
TechAngel85 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'll have to take a look at it. Right now I like verdant over SFO. The forest feels more like a forest, the tundra feels like a tundra, etc. It's all a very nice change over SFO. -
This is brilliant! I don't know if this is an internal controllable, but the text displayed on the right is really difficult to read due to the spacing of the characters. If it's an internal thing, you might want to bring this up with Boris. The readability is just not pleasant. Bringing the characters together more while leaving the word spacing will improve it a great deal.

If you're installing this entire Guide (STEP:Extended), then you can disregard them. The Extended Patch is installed with the STEP Compilation towards the end of the Guide.

ACCEPTED Verdant - A Skyrim Grass Plugin (by Preeum)
TechAngel85 replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm just installing it into my own personal setup to see if I like it or not. Even though I don't care for SFO's grasses, I don't think this would replace those. I hate SFO's tundra (at least in the version we use).
