GUIDE FNV Guide - Info and Feedback
redirishlord replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
My bad rootsrat, I thought we were all using the newer version, you probably saw my pic on comments by EProctor (linking to this guide). BTW I'm a Win 8.1 kid & I have no problem using the newer 4gb loader with the NVSE beta 3 (thanks SRB!) & an ENB (Diablotherium as it has a Nevada Skies version, I would suggest that for the Guide in fact, you can always disable preset features if you have performance issues enboost is built in of course). -
I am using, as stated in each of my previous posts, the medium texture option of Unique Grasses. I am using the default density. Of course, my results may not be your results. My system specs (also in my profile but pasted here also) CPU i7 4770k @ 3.5GHzRAM 16GB (2 x 8GB DDR3 1866)GPU NVidia GTX 670 2GB120 GB SDD (Windows 8.1 64bit OS)1TB 7200 RPM HDD (Skyrim) I am using a variety of 2k textures for both exteriors (serious HD, Skyrim HD, Vivid) and equipment (Book of Silence) and a patched SKSE 1.6.16 loader for sheson's memory patch 3.0 and topping it all off with Serentiy ENB v10 full option with memory size set to 10240 and fps limited to 48fps with performance set active if <24fps in enblocal. So we probably aren't on an equal foundation with so many variables in play. I am managing approx 32fps at last check (from Riverwood to Riften in and out of combat) for what that's worth. My current issue is the sudden appearance of the "brown haze" issue that is linked to the enb mist effect, I'm not sure what I changed to cause that. Disabling mist in enbseries "quick fixes" the issue, but I'm looking for a solution, or at least an understanding. Getting back to your performance with Unique Grasses, you might ask Josh Ezzell if increasing the value for iMinGrassSize=?? will give you a performance increase without degrading the look of the mod, additionally you might ask if the 1k or sparser density options provide good "bang for the buck" inregards to trading graphic quality for performance. Best of luck.

Tale of Two Wastelands looks interesting, but much like Project Brazil seems to require a separate install/playthrough. If Fallout 4 hasn't dropped by the time I've played my modded FNV, and perhaps Project Brazil to "completion" I'll consider buying FO3 GOTY from Steam ($20 usd currently, a bargain for sure) and giving TTW a go. Of course there's modded Skyrim demanding time as well; and don't get me started on Star Citizen with its dogfighting module in April, that's really gonna demand attention (and then its planetside module, and the persistent universe beta, and the single player chapters as they're completed...). I told you not to get me started (or did I do that), anyway, sorry for the off-topic. -
@ statmonster: if your last was directed my way, I'm saying I use "2k" texture packs which contain a variety of resolutions, for instance I use Cabal's Book of Silence. In this case I'm using the medium or middle choice of the three options offered by the mod author. As far as my grass ini settings, they are copied directly from Unique Grasses description page as directed by Josh Ezzell in the description.

I'm running ELFX with ELE, I wonder if ELE touches some of the same data? I recently uninstalled Audio Overhaul and changed the install order for ELFX & ELE in Wrye/BAIN, I realize changes like this are problematic for existing saves but I've got a reset planned for end of March anyway.

Has anyone encountered the loss of half the screen (the "brown haze") with Serenity ENB, disabling "mist" in enbseries quick fixes but I'm trying to find a better solution. I saw a reference on the ENB forums to floatpointrender=1 mistakenly added to skyrim.ini (instead of skyrimprefs.ini) causing the issue, wasn't sure if bDrawShaderGrass=1 or bGrassPointLighting=1 could do same?

I'm using Medium textures at Defaul density, looks and performs great. @ DoYouEvenModBro: are your skyrim.ini settings correct for the mod? I'm running a 2k int/ext setup with way too many mods (255 esp files) and performance is approx 32 fps with Serenity ENB running (as well as a mem patch 3.0 skse 1.6.16 loader). New question, has anyone encountered issues with ENB due to lighting or shader ini settings from this mod? I recently encountered the loss of half my screen (the "brown haze") with Serenity ENB, disabling "mist" in enbseries quick fixes but I'm trying to find a better solution. I saw a reference to on the ENB forums floatpointrender=1 mistakenly added to skyrim.ini (instead of skyrimprefs.ini) causing the issue, wasn't sure if bDrawShaderGrass=1 or bGrassPointLighting=1 could do same? In closing, love the Unique Grasses mod, absolutely beautiful work. Any issue I'm having I definitely caused through compulsive over-modding.

Looks good now. My IE is happy as well, although I discovered I like Firefox quite a lot, so = double win! Thanks for the fix z929669 & thanks for getting me to shop around phazer11 & essarrbee.

Now that I can drop links, here's a few for Companions & Quests; Companions A better Boone https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43423 A better Cass https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41687 A better Veronica https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41617 >> These are improvements to the vanilla companions, so what's not to like? Wendy Gilbert https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43247 >> "This mod adds a companion with many abilities and features, plus a modest player home". Interesting features in this, looking forward to checking it out. Willow https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41779 >> "600 lines of voiced dialogue, written and acted specifically for the mod", I really enjoy the immersion of voiced dialog followers. The mod also has five quests related to the companion. Improved Companion Sandbox https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44803 Quests Afterschool Special https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43757 >> "Afterschool Special is a fully voiced quest mod based on my original Schoolhouse Base", it allows you to rebuild the Goodsprings Schoolhouse into a player home with Sortomatic features. The New Bison Steve Hotel https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40433 >> "Ever thought that it would be a cool location to rebuild?" I most definitely do think it would be. Tales from the Burning Sands https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/37172 >> "Tales from the Burning Sands is a lore-friendly, serialized adventure mod". Also allows you to earn a player home with Sortomatic features. Beyond Boulder Dome https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/46907 >> This looks big, maybe DLC big? Nevada Interiors Project https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43534 >> "Have you ever ben exploring the Mojave Waste, thinking to yourself There's just nothing out here to investigate?" I have. This looks extensive and has compatibility patch for NMC textures. Searchlight Airport ... Nexus temp down so I'll edit this one in later I'll leave off the various cut content mods we discussed previously (unless you'd like me to link them here) and Someguy's New Vegas Bounties, etc. (I was disappointed these were unfinished, but grateful for all that he did). I haven't completed Afterschool Special yet, but I really like having to earn a home in Goodsprings. I'm crashing in Victos house for now, but his housekeeping leaves something to be desired. Additionally the placement of the two non-vanilla followers I listed above has me completely Primm and Boulder City before meeting them, so I thnk that fits with the spirit of the original game. -
I remembered Firefox from a workaround to let me read my purchased itunes books on my pc (itunes forced me to use my phone & I didn't have a tablet back then). The firefox installer let me import all my IE bookmarks, etc so seamless transition in about a minute. & Firefox made me a master of ninjutsu? Mozilla FTW!

Look who can quote himself & cut & paste phazer11's motto: Knowledge is power, and power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. So study hard and be evil. This guy https://forum.step-project.com/user/2819-redirishlord/ Thanks for the suggestion phazer11, I'm a Firefox kid now.

I have not, I am using Internet Explorer. Is there a STEP preferred alternative?

I am still unable to "ctrl+v" to copy into my forum posts, if I "right-click" the menu option to paste is also "greyed-out" aand non-functional. When I attempt to use the link option from this forum's post menu I am unable to complete the function, I ultimately have to use the back button to reload the page. I am also unable to successfully "quote" using the button provided on the forum. It appears I am the only users suffering from this issue? Are my profile or other "back end" forum settings somehow unique, is it possible for an administrator/moderator to verify my forum account is setup correctly? If there is troubleshooting I could do on my end I would be happy to do so and report the results, perhaps that would help others as well (if I'm not completely unique in having this issue). Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Right, FNVedit. Thanks in advance, saves me some hair pulling (I really can't afford to lose any at this point). Yup, that did it. I had several patches before their master plugins, once they were sorted, I'm back in business. Now to test some of these in game & turn the Goodsprings schoolhouse into a home. -

So, I set my enblocal to force borderless fullscreen and when I encountered the freeze issue during character creation I was able to receive a "missing master" pop up. I'm not seeing a missing master indicator in Wrye, is there another route I could go to easily check that (maybe using TESedit? I'm not real familiar with that except to clean Beth DLC files)? -

BTW, I can't get to the game's main menu with 140 mods, my limit seems to be about 136. -

This is excellent work and a must have for me. I don't know what the process is to get them included the next STEP, but I hope to see them there. -

I'm a fan of the Advanced Recon Gear myself, although I don't use the trap detection equipment/perk. Y'all might check out Mike Hancho's Afterschool Special (quest + home) and Bison Steve Hotel mods, featuring Sortomatic. I would post links, but I can't copy/paste or create links in this forum :-( not sure why. -

Sounds great EssArrBee. I am trying Optimizer Textures at the moment, appears I had quite a few 4k textures in the mix, which surprised me as I have switched back to NMC Medium and Poco Bueno after my character creation freeze issue. -

Good point, thanks. I tweaked Skyrim and am about to check that, I'll be back to FNV shortly and I'll troubleshoot it next. -

I find my self unable to start a new game as FNV freezes during character creation (race selection) and my desktop/windows cursor appears. I am then unable to regain FNV function via atl+tab or other. Anyone find this issue familiar? I'm stumped. -
I've used Oakwood & Laintar Dale, both needed cleaned and the author wasn't responsive to me asking about that on Steam. I didn't have an issue wuth LD, but Oakwood seemed to cause CTD along the road from Riverwood to Falkreath as noted by several posts. His quests seemed good for the most part. Once I achieved stability with STEP installed I discontinued use of his quest mods, and ultimately the towns when I couldn't get feedback on cleaning/CTDs.

Outstanding news, I love your patch work. Thanks in advance. I've got an advance copy of ewi65's Technicolor ENB, but its designed for vanilla weather so I'm holding off on Nevada Skies for now. I love R.A.C.E. radio, I've got almost 500 lore/period friendly songs from the Nexus to supplement the existing FNV radio.
