ENB Guide

In my experience the only ones that still use old ENB versions are the ones that aren't under active development or at least very little of it.

There are a TON of these, and no easy way to filter them out on the Nexus.  In fact, they are among the most endorsed, from momentum if nothing else.  I'm sure our recommendations will, though, so maybe that's will end up being our solution, at least in part.

  • 3 weeks later...

Okay I've started working on the ENB Guide. I split the INI config into two separate tabs for enbseries and enblocal INIs. Enbseries.ini section still needs a ton of work due to the amount that has been added or moved to enblocal.ini. Also, added some stuff to the Installation tab now that the [MEMORY] section in enblocal.ini is dependent on hardware specs, added a link to a utility that will help people figure that section out for easy copy/paste.

The ENB Choices section needs mucho mas attention and it would be good to start taking a poll of what ENB profiles are being used the most by STEP users to redo that section. I think most of those are using v119 and v139 binaries and maybe should be scrapped.

Does anyone know if the AdditionalConfigFile line in enbseries.ini is still active? Has it been removed or is it hidden?

I have done much work I got laying about since I last said I would contribute.

Just this last week I have been making a decision to learn HLSL from the ground up to make sure I get the last stuff I need to know and make my very own stuff instead of relaying on others.

If you or anybody else have any questions I am more then happy to help, sadly due to personal issues I am unable to dedicate myself to actually making a guide that is in anyway meaningful for others.

In general I think you should stay away from specific presets since that is just confusing now tbh. instead stay focused on the general facts that are true for all. But that is just the way I would do it!

I pretty sure there is out-of-date stuff on the ENB Series INI tab because it's from old binary version like 139. If you could just read through and see which ones are no good, I'd remove it.

Also, from the enblocal.ini do you know what [ADAPTIVEQUALITY] section is for? What is the SpeedHack line for? The FixPhysics line is for when vsync is disabled and FPS is >60 correct? I read the ENB forums, but I just don't understand Boris most of the time. If the language barrier was from Spanish I'd be fine, but not Russian.

So, just get rid of the ENB Choices tab and move away from recommended profiles? I was kind of thinking about just redoing it with a few profiles, including the recommended SR profile and a couple other I am familiar enough with.

Keep the ENB choices tab, but update with up-to-date ENB presets. I know MTich keeps SkyRealism fairly up to date and if he hasn't updated to the latest binary there is a reason. He's one of a few that has completely rewrote most of the ENB processing method so he's not just another preset author. In fact, he's highly respected in the ENB community. So keep SkyRealism up as a choice. I know that I kept Project ENB up because it was one that TC originally recommend way back when STEP was new to the community. True Vision was high up on my "best of realistic ENBs" list a good while back and is by the same author of Project ENB. Both have had fairly recent development too. (the new versions look quite good)

The complimentary mods section is probably way outdated though. Since I stopped using ENB, there has been no one to keep it regularly updated.

Thanks for taking up the reigns on this EssArrBee!

Might want to add a blurb along the lines, "We've found these presets to be high quality and usually up to date, but you should feel fry to try any that interest you, following these guide lines: ...". Blah blah good community blah blah recent ENB ...

I've been using PNENB.

Yeah I might pick some of the more important ENB profiles that are from authors who really do something special, then maybe take a poll from the users and add a few more to list that are popular with STEP members. If we don't cater to this community what's the point?

Yeah, I like PNENB too, and Phinix has kinda been my translator to the stuff Boris posts on his forums because I just don't get most. He also made a nice utility for people to get the correct settings for the [MEMORY] section based on hardware specs. I probably wouldn't have started working on this guide without him answering my questions.

Bump. Just so it's not lost.

I can't see Project ENB being kept since it's so out of date with the current ENB binary, almost no one would use that information, sorry TC. Of course the ones you mentioned are on a short list, plus I would also list whatever Neo is recommending for SR, and maybe throw in a couple that are popular with STEP members or are just important to know about because they are kept up to date or the author contributes to ENB.

Out of date??? "ENB Series v0.212 or v0.213: Turn the in-game brightness all the way down! For CoT v3.1" Updated: "23:48, 27 August 2013" The latest binary is .213 so I have no idea how you're calling that out of date.... :psyduck:

I could have sworn it was in my tracked files. Sometimes I think things get dropped from my list. Anyways, now I know it's still being worked on along with bronze's other profiles and I'll check it out.

Never assume any mod is not being updated because you don't get an notification on it. Nexus's tracking system is good but not foolproof. I manually check all my mods occasionally. For instance, SMIM is almost never on my update list even though it's tracked and updated regularly. If in doubt, always check before taking action.

Odd... I've never had a problem with Nexus not notifying me of something. I check mine too but I've never gone to a mod page I'd tracked and it had been updated without receiving a notification about it. The problem is... I rarely visit Nexus. Especially the last week or so that I've been working on this video (which I guess no one has had the time to review it is long I know...)

My problem is that I just took over my brother account since he was already tracking hundreds of mods, and because I'm lazy like that. I think some of the mods actually get booted off since there are just so many being tracked. I never really have problems with the notifications either unless a mod is untracked all of sudden.

I think it is hard to watch a video about something you already know so much about. Maybe ask some people that know nothing or very little about optimization to see if they actually get it.

Is there anyone currently using SkyRealism? I'm not about to go through all the presets, but I need an opinion on what's good for Vanilla Skyrim and if there is a preset good for ELFX.

I like the way Cinematic looks for vanilla lighting and CoT, Vibrant is just to bright, the Vanilla preset is just no good unless you want to tweak it yourself, 70's/Scary/Gothic yeah right, Cold and Bleak actually looks good in screen shots, Warm is decent to, and Realistic is not my flavor unless someone can convince me otherwise.
