ENB Guide

If you're using the ENB feature to take screenshots, they should be in your root Skyrim installation directory (where you installed the ENB). Why Boris decided to place them there and clutter up the install directory I will never know. I think they're save as .BMP files. I use FRAPS for this.

This is something I compiled for myself (mostly from one mod author's Nexus page):

*******

1. Day/Night too bright/dark! I hate it!

Increasing directlightingintensityday/directlightingintensitynight or ambientlightingintensityday/ambientlightingintensitynight makes things brighter and vice-verse

BLOOM: Increasing amountday/ammountnight makes things brighter and vice-verse

2. Shadows too dark/light!

Directlightingintensity determines the darkness of the shadows, greater values make shadows darker

Ambientlightingintensity brightens the entire scene so it can be used to brighten/darken shadows

Adjusting contrast is the easiest tweak to make things look good

3. Fire/lights too bright/dark!

Adjust 'pointlightingintensity' greater values mean brighter lights.

4. I cant see the sky!!! Its all white!!

Adjust 'Gradientintensity' to suit your taste, remember to check dawn and dusk too in all types of weather!

5. I hate the sunglare!

Adjust 'Sunintensity' and 'Suncoronaintensity' to suit your taste.

6. Everythings so shiny! I hate it! OR, I need more shiny awesomeness!

Adjust 'Specularamountmultiplierday/night' to suit yourtaste.

As a side note dont set it too high or everything will look like plastic.

7. Black bars? Ewwwwww!

open enbeffect.fx with notepad and change:

float2 sqvigpwr = float2( 1.7, 1.55 ); // For square vignette: (top, bottom)

to

float2 sqvigpwr = float2( 0.0, 0.0 ); // For square vignette: (top, bottom)

or

Look for any line enabling "letterbox" or "vignette" and comment ("//") it out.

******

Would it make sense to put something like that under "Troubleshooting"? I know each setting was explained in detail on a different tab, but this might be easier for people coming to that page looking for a solution.

I'm still a Skyrim noob, so I'm hesitant to make any changes without feedback from the regulars (assuming I even have permissions) but the ENB guide is now waaaaaaay behind the times IMHO given the emergence of Boris' performance improvements post 0.193. For a heavily modded game, it's hard to see the wisdom in using any presets built on an earlier release.

BTW, as an edit to my previous post, might want to add somethign like this:

8. This is beautiful, but it's killing my FPS!

SSAO and DoF are usually the biggest FPS hits. Try turing it off and see what the tradfe-off gets you

>> To disable SSAO set EnableAmbientOcclusion=False & UseIndirectLighting=False.

>> To disable Depth of Field set DepthOfField=False.

Well there was a reason nobody have been on this thread for over a month ;)

What's that?  Too busy trying to figure out if they needed to merge their favorite pre-set with ENBoost?  I'm actually a little surprised at how dead this topic is.  Is it because Boris' documentation is a little hard to grok and this whole thing just runs on blue smoke and magic or something?

I'll say this - The right ENB with the right settings (and that's a tricky combination) can completely overhaul the look of this game with no discernible loss of FPS.  I just wish the guides were a little clearer when I started down this road.  Thank the Nine for ENB Manager and the ability to survive my mistakes.

Boris does not make documentation :P

And I know very well how much... almost the only thing I am doing with this game is tweak ENB´s

That I do not release so often is because I am never happy with my work...

And I hate ENB manager with a vengence... for some strange reason it can mess up ENB´s and I personally have no problem with copy paste :)

What's the consensus on ENBoost?  I moved to an ENB preset built on the latest release (0.201), with the memory management improvements included.  Still had a couple CTDs, but I'll probably never get away from that.  Seemed a little more stable but it's hard to say after only a couple hours.

If this ends up being the solution to the memory cap issue, this becomes an essential piece of a heavily modded game.

You don't need ENB to use ENBoost. You do need the dll, but you don't have to use the graphical modification. This thread is more for graphical ENB enhancement. ENBoost has it's own thread in Mod Suggestions forum.

Nevertheless, I use it and I'm happy. Even though I only have 2GB VRAM, and I technically shouldn't need ENBoost, I still find it beneficial - my game seems to run smoother with it enabled.

Consensus is that.... well it works for most people. It does not solve ALL issues, like Boris says himself. That would never be possible without source access. It does help. And it is different from stuff like memory optimizers, since those are designed to "work" in general. This program only works on Skyrim by using built in "code" in the game engine... that is a vital difference.

Compared to previous ENB versions then performance is improved and you will get more FPS. Compared to vanilla then you most likely will not see any FPS improvement at all.

As for the guide... then yes I have said I would like to do so, but atm I am finishing up my own ENB preset since I apparently lured Rootsrat into testing for me in proper, and providing feedback. Also I have major real life issues that kinda needs to be taken care of in this period as well.

It's a good looking preset with really good performance, so there was no need to lure!

This thread is more for graphical ENB enhancement. ENBoost has it's own thread in Mod Suggestions forum.

I would suggest that we at least mention it in the same breath, and maybe link to the discussion.  For someone who is already using ENB for the graphical enhancement, the fact that ENBoost is included with certain pre-sets, but not others, and that you can't run ENBoost along side your old favorite pre-set if it uses <0.193 are key facts to have when trying to set this up.

In my experience the only ones that still use old ENB versions are the ones that aren't under active development or at least very little of it. MTichenor (author of SkyRealism) is one author is monitors ENB development and releases updates regularly when he feels a specific version is stable enough. Currently, his presets use V0.200. This guide was meant to be kept up to date and covering all possibilities is just not possible. In it's current state, the Guide is WAY out of date and I'll most a notice at the top stating so.

Please refer to the ENBoost thread for its discussion for now. I'll update the OP with the link to this thread as well.
