HOly ****, just saw the review of the new nvidia cards...

The GTX 970 in partiuclar costs only 330 dollars, but has better performance than a 290, much better temps and much less power consumption (145watt TDP vs 250 watt... wtf?). Seeing how ENB still has better support for nvidia than for amd, this looks like a really good card!

edit: link to a slightly better test

Yeah, im rooting for AMD a lot lately, but with a TDP that low, im really thinking about getting my hands on a 980 asa the custom designs are out.

7970 is a great card that served me well, but man... that's quite an upgrade, not to mention the possibility of DS finally making it in and the better temps.

Will have a closer look in the near future and maybe im going to get a Christmas present earlier this year.

With that low power usage, either one would have been perfect in my little shoebox rig. And the EVGA GTX 970 4GB is $330, just $45 more than my 760 4GB I got in July, when the 970/980 were still just rumors.

(Goes away to quietly sob in a corner).

Did nvidia skip 800? I hate when they do stuff like that. Now what's after 900?

I really wanted native shared memory from maxwell but I guess we'll just have to wait one more cycle.

Hopefully I will soon get the cash to upgrade! Just one of those babies would be x2 the performance of what I have now! :)

And really quite impressive power consumption... which is more what I go for these days then the raw number crunching.

800 wasn't a set of desktop GPUs, it was for laptops.

EVGA is running some promotions to possibly win one of these bad boys: https://www.evga.com/articles/00874/9-Cool-Days-of-ACX2-Promotion/

Thanks!

Btw guys I edited the OP with a link to a better test for single GPUs. They also show some non-reference test results from asus and msi.

No no ESB... if it is science then it must be a conspiracy... or magic.. but everybody knows that magic is a hoax! :)

That said then thanks for a good laugh!

Here's my favorite video on the subject. I show it to all my students just to take a break from vectors, nullspaces, and eigenvalues. It is also a great lesson in how much digital technologies have come.

Actually. I doubt we'll be seeing the 900 series cards for another year or so for mainstream retail purchase. Nvidia is just about to release the 800 series desktop cards, according to this. Unless Gigabyte is the only one to sell 800 series cards which I doubt.

I am entering the contests, as much as possible. Apart from the 780 which I saved up for quite a while the rest of the house's computers are in sad, sad shape. The next best graphics card is my old GTX 460 768MB which my mom is using because she needed more power than the 2x GTX 8500 1GB my dad is now running in SLi (and it still takes her about 30 minutes to do one process of some of the things she's needing to do). Actually now I think on it the integrated graphics on the 2500k might be better lmao.

Weird. Since they're just now releasing the 800 series if you looked at that link I posted above since it appears there are actually 800 series desktop cards. Maybe they made the 800 series desktop card but for some reason there was an issue and the sites are saying they are the 800 series when they're actually releasing the 900 series. Of course I know they had to release the 800 series for notebooks because the manufacturers want some 'new' each year but that doesn't explain a few things.
