Dynamic Distant Objects LOD - DynDOLOD

Finally I can see my house from here

You know the price for my mods: blood, sweat and tears. Oh, and your first born.

For latest information and instructions see the DynDOLOD 2.18 UPDATE POST

What is this?

DynDOLOD is a set of tools based on TES5Edit and TES5LODGen to automatically create a Skyrim mod based on the load order which adds distant LOD for objects to Skyrim. By combining DynDOLOD with TES5LODGen users can create drastically enhanced traditional static LOD plus tree LOD and the new, optional dynamic distant object LOD in a few 'simple' steps.

DynDOLOD is meant for enthusiast modders who are familiar with using TES5Edit. Enthusiast modders have a general knowledge of computers, folders and files, especially Skyrims 'Data' folders and how to install mods safely with a manager or manually.

To fully expand the visual experience and use the additional features offered by TES5LODGen the DynDOLOD package comes with over 1000 new or updated LOD models for objects that were badly missing from the original game like the Skyhaven Temple or landscape features like roads, smaller rocks and dirt cliffs that simply make the distant landscape look much more natural and alive.

What does it do?

It makes Skyrim look like this

Sheson, Yes, that's the one; i also tried the version on AFK's site and the newest on Nexus but all 3 throw the same error inside MO and no log file is created. If I switch back to 3.1 then TES5Edit works fine but once I use the DYnDOLOD script it tells me I need to update TES5Edit and gives me the address for AFK's site.

If you can hang on until after the weekend the staff should have published the official detailed installation instructions on their own wiki page for a 2.2.9.1 release.

That's awesome, will definitely look for that.

Hello, I've been trying to install this mod for about a week now with no success. I migrated my entire mod library over to mod organizer so I could follow this video:

The mod did not work no matter how many times I followed the installation instructions to the letter (putting the dyndolod .esp last in load order, making sure the output folder is loaded by MO, etc), with the only result being that DynDOLOD showed up on MCM as being active and getting the "initialization successful" message but only having vanilla LODs. I then tried to follow this guide:

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/306bdh/tes5lodgen_and_dyndolod_tutorial/

It appears to be somewhat outdated according to one of the comments which makes allusions to extra steps and .json files, and again I had no success, but the somewhat frustrating thing here is that I had not seen any reference to .json files in any of the guides I had found. I would really like to try this mod but what I can't seem to find is a comprehensive installation guide for the current version. Some guides seem to include some steps and others different ones, which makes for a very confusing time trying to install a mod that is already pretty involved.

I also looked at the .html manual that came in the Docs folder in the mod but it seems to have mostly the same info on installing that the other guides did and again does not mention anything about .json files or whatever else may be needed. So I guess what I'm looking for is a guide detailed enough with every step for a noob like me to install 1.28 and get those damn LODs to show up in my game. I've got 190 .esps in my game and have been able to make them play nice with each other but I just can't get this one to work and it's driving me crazy.

Edit: After trying out the static LODs under the optional downloads on the dyndolod page, I think I'll stick with them although I'd like to see if there is a high version available instead of medium. Is there any way to get this or would it not make a difference?

The GamerPoets Video is as detailed and thorough as it gets - it is up to date as well. So is the included manual.

The reddit tutorial was already outdated the day it was posted :)

The json files are generated to the SKSE folder in the output directory. The last few lines of the TES5Edit log that prints out all the nice things DynDOLOD World.pas does look like this

[00:17:19.001] Saved F:\Skyrim\TES5EditOutput\skse\plugins\StorageUtilData\DynDOLOD_Tamriel.json
[00:17:19.026] Adding world index with 9 entries
[00:17:19.042] Saved F:\Skyrim\TES5EditOutput\skse\plugins\StorageUtilData\DynDOLOD_Worlds.json
[00:17:19.060] Disabling 2 REFRs
[00:17:19.097] DynDOLOD Worlds completed successfully.

Location and name of 2 json files... The Uninstallation / Updating section of the manual lists all the included and generated folders and files, including "data\skse\plugins\storageutildata\DynDOLOD_*.json".

If generation ran without errors and you don't see any static LOD (bto and dds files) and consequently no dynamic LOD (esp and json files) it means that the 3 folders Meshes, Textures and SKE from the output folder are not installed correctly.

You can check in MO by clicking the "Data" tab in the right pane and drill down the tree by clicking the [+] signs. It should show:

- Unfold SKSE to SKSE  \ Plugins \ StorageUtilData and it should contain the json files from the mod that has the output from DynDOLOD.

- Unfold Meshes to Meshes  \ Terrain \ Tamriel \ Objects and it should contain the bto files from the mod that has the output from DynDOLOD.

- Unfold Textures to Textures \ DynDOLOD \ LOD and it should contain DynDOLOD_Atlas_Tamriel.dds and DynDOLOD_Atlas_Tamriel_n.dds files from the mod that has the output from DynDOLOD.

No log... uhm then report the error on the AFK thread please. Include what windows version and language settings you are using.

DynDOLOD 1.29

Fixed missing master error report by wysiwyg
Small update to a papyus script. Works without updating esp or save game, just replace script.

Added a short manual for DynDOLOD TexGen.pas with a video. Check it out in case texture replacers are used and you want to create better matching LOD textures for it.
This works for most LOD textures but not the ones that have baked textures mini atlas like the major cities LOD.

Added rules and/or added/updated LOD meshes for Daedric Castle, Hearthfire Extended, Skyfall Estate - Buildable Edition, Marnya - My Hobbit Home.

You only need to generate LOD again if using any of these mods or if you want LOD for the newly created wordwalls. All but the one on the Throat of the World are static LOD.

This whole time I thought texgen was somehow built into DynDOLOD. I feel pretty dumb now.

It actually looks pretty simple in the video though, so that's good.

EDIT: We're supposed to run Texgen first amiright? Seems like it wouldn't help after DDL has been run.

I am a bit confused,

I have STEP 2.2.9.1 Extended installed, wo/Wet and Cold, In Mod Organizer.

I have DL'ed SFO LOD Billboards and place under SFO.

SMIM has SkyFalls & SkyMills patch and I have SkyFalls & SkyMills (1.5 Vanila Sails)

so should not need to do any extra with those.

DynDOLOD.esp is at bottom of Load order and activated.

Extracted TES5Edit folder from DynDOLOD 1.28 7zip and droped Edit Scripts into TES5Edit 3.1.1-25859-3-1-1.

All 3 High Resolution Texture Packs are activated as well as the Unofficial High Resolution Patch.

Not sure if it matters but: Wrye Bash Patch is not built nor activated.

Run TES5Edit - through MO, select all, Shift + OK, Wait till background is finished.

Right click DynDOLOD.esp and apply Script.

Choose DynDOLOD Worlds, OK, Select All.

Select Output - desktop\DynDOLOD Output

Click Medium.

Now here is the confusion;

STEP Wiki says wait time is generaly 30 min to 3 hrs.

And that the output folder should be around 1.4 gig for STEP Extended.

For me - (Apply Script done) Processed Record: 0, ElapsedTime: 07:47

And - 48.9 MB DynDOLOD Output folder size.

Now I do not see any ERRORs but I do get;

So what have I done wrong to where I am not getting the results that STEP wiki says to expect?

EDIT 2: Forgot to mention Vanilla Skyrim LOD Billbords placed under UHRP.

@DY, on the DDL wiki page you said to hide some files. Do we need to do that anymore with the texgen script? I'm pretty sure that isn't needed anymore.

That is correct.

I updated the DDL page with the instructions for TexGen and put up some additional info for requirements so no one skips the "-o:" argument and the other stuff. Instructions for DDL are now pretty long.

Tech had this problem yesterday. I'm not sure if he found a solution, but I'll ask him and get back to you. I'm not able to replicate it myself.
