Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback

I'm not against a 10 gig download because it is big so much as that it is unstable. I'd rather it broken into maybe 10 files and then I could put it on my private VPN and give out a torrent for it with MD5 checksums to verify integrity, though torrents can have that built in if you know what you are doing.Mostly, though I imagine that something that large would flood the game with so many items that the leveled lists would crash the game. If they happen to be distributed in any way through the factions then you are really asking a lot of the engine to load all those references. My game already has some problems with script latency since I tend to have lots of open quests, so 10 gigs of armor/weapons on top of the 10 gigs of crap already in the game will just bring Gamebryo to it's knees.

Yeah the engine is certainly lacking. Really would love a new engine for future beth games not just a modified one. Which we might due to the next gen consoles. Without the engine limitations there are now modding could only go up from here.

Not quite. Dragbody's "rip pack" is ~10gigs, and actually comes housed in his own private base he replaced Searchlight with. What I am saying that he and him minions are doing is going through that massive pack, and replacing most of the armors in the game with them. I have no idea what the final size will be, but think of it as his Legion overhaul, but for everyone in the wasteland and with armors that actually fit the style. As far as I am aware this will be a completely separate pack from Dragbody's 2 year "collect all the armors" project. :)

Okay, here's tonight's test mods:

That seems like enough for me ATM. Also, here is some preliminary things I've found out about the LOOT load order:

  • Nevada skies UE.esp and ILO - GS Shack.esp after NV Bounties I & II
  • ADAM Complete after Trooper Overhaul-Dragbody.esp
  • ILO - UE.esp after ADAM Complete
  • ILO - UE.esp after NV Bounties
  • ILO - UE.esp after WMX.esp
  • ILO - UE.esp after Laurens_Bathroom_poetry.esp
  • ILO - UE.esp after Dragonskin Tactical Outfit.esp
  • WMX-EVE-AllDLC.esp after Improved Sounds FX - WMX Merged.esp
  • Improved Sounds FX - WMX Merged.esp needs sound and stats bash tag
  • Integration Courier Stash+WMX.esp after WMX-POPMerged.esp (technically this doesn't need to happen because WMX-POPMerged.esp isn't needed with Courier Stash Integration, I'll add a note to the guide about that).
Okay, there were a couple more, but I can't remember them all and like an idiot I didn't write all of them down. If you find anything that LOOT puts out of order let me know and I'll add it to my short list.

So I installed Collision Mesh Overhaul and Better Metal Impact, but not without issue.  I traveled back to Goodsprings and was getting horrible FPS.  I noticed that one of the wind turbines was laying on the ground over a dead bighorn.  I went over to and could knock it around by jumping into it.  It also hurt me if it fell back down onto me.  I started a new game and went outside and the same wind turbine was firmly attached to the ground.

Don't know if this matters now since you're adding new mods to the pack. But back when I installed the pack (around June 1 I think) I used LOOT exclusively and haven't had any issues related to load order. I have at least 30 hours of gameplay on that character as well.

Just thought I'd toss that out there. I realize you're adding mods now that LOOT may not sort properly.

It was the big one near Doc Mitchell's house.  If I slow-traveled to Goodsprings it was on the ground and the FPS were horrid.  If I fast-traveled to Goodsprings the turbine was sitting upright apparently OK, unless I walked into it - then it would move and fall over, and once it started moving the FPS would die.  If I started a new game (or loaded a saved game before I ever went outside of Doc Mitchell's), the turbine was upright and solid if I walked into it.

EDIT: the bighorner I mentioned previously was probably already dead from a prior gunfight in town.

LOOT should work with the current load order it gives, but you miss out on a few changes from Interior Lighting Overhaul and Nevada Skies. Those are not gamebreaking changes in anyway, but by reversing the mods that conflict with ILO and NS, you get the changes from all the mods.

That is a weird issue. I'll continue to try to reproduce that and see if it is a bug.

It seems that Refill Bottled Water isn't working right with Project Nevada. It restores health in Hardcore mode, which isn't supposed to happen. Bottle that Water seems like the next best choice, but it adds in another level with a canteen.

The Slave backpack mod is simple and easy, so that is going in. The gun follows crosshairs doesn't really matter when using weapon animation replacer. Animated Fan looks cool in game. It has no cord just like every other appliance in game, so I guess that means it is consistent. Still need to kill some more stuff to test out ragdolls though.

After that, I'm going to try to add in Afterschool Special and finally finish NV Bounties II, but after breakfast.

A thought on the turbine issue - maybe the detachment of the object from the fixed ground position had something to do with the gunfight that happened earlier.  Some explosives went off and I would not be surprised if one happened near or under the wind turbine.

EDIT: I'm probably just going to restart my game and use a new game anyway... So I can add in some of these other mods.

EDIT2: I actually don't think explosives have anything to do with it, because I just tested using an explosive next to the detached turbine and the blast causes no reaction on the detached turbine.  I thought it might cause it to fly off in the other direction, but it doesn't appear to affect it.

If you're adding afterschool special then you should look into his other mod the new bison Steve. pretty much the same thing except you're fixing up the bison Steve in primm but with a little more action. Its of the same quality as afterschool special. However it does run a script in the background that puts funds earned by the casino in a safe every once in awhile. So I'm not sure about that one.

I actually can't get the game to load when I install Afterschool Special with F&L's current mod list. There might be something I'm overlooking, but I patched the only two conflicts I could find.

That's odd. I added mid play through and didn't have any problems

It's weird because I had the same damn problem with Advanced Recon Thermal Nightvision and therefore couldn't add it to the guide. If I can't test it myself, I sure as hell can't endorse it's use with everything else.

So the little fan mod is mergeable to bashed patch which means that I'm going to ad it since it's cool. Ragdolls is a good addition as well, I saw some ITMs in the plugin, but they are for records that no other mod would ever touch anyways.

I made a Project Nevada - Refill Water Bottles patch. I'm going to test it out to make sure that on hardcore mode that the water does not replenish health. If someone else could verify it for me that would be great: https://copy.com/VgGev6rNUAIN

Install the regular version of Refill Water Bottles and make sure that PN rebalance is installed. If water restores health then it does not work.

Okay, I got the bugs worked out on that patch and now it works for the refilled bottles too. Same link as above, just redownload. I'm going to ask the author about distributing it so I can add the mod without having to host it myself.
