PCGaming wiki has mouse acceleration ini tweaks for both Skyrim and Fallout 4, but maybe they're wrong? :^_^:

If not it would be nice to have an option to disable acceleration and smoothness.

Just found the updated utility after reading the State of STEP posting. Definitely useful and endorsed on Nexus.

One thing that would be a useful addition would be to add to the tooltips one or two lines about what affect changing the setting has. You could simply grab a line from the INI wiki saying something like "enable to do X" or "increase value to do Y". This would help users in determining what changes to make in the utility.

Just switching over from SPINI to BethINI, for some reason MO will not pick up the new .ini's - I am pointing BethINI to MO/Profiles/(profile I'm attempting to optimize).  I'm sure there is something stupid Im not thinking about, more than a little tired but I really have tried a bunch of things (pointed it to MyDocuments/MyGames/Skyrim and ran it there) and done searches, but I'm coming up empty here.  I did also accidentally run it in the main Skyrim folder initially...  Aaaand I still had files left over in MyDocuments location from SPINI when I ran it.

I can confirm that it did not detect SFO for me because my setting was still set to 3.

@KLWaster

Just hover over the setting and you'll get a tooltip that opens at the mouse. Though, it would be helpful for the tooltip to list the actual INI parameter being edited.

@baronaatista

It saved just fine for me and MO picked them up okay (files are edited in INI Editor). Make sure you're not running it from within MO and make sure you close MO being running it.

@baron

It should automatically find your profiles, and you should be able to select it from the drop-down INI Path under Setup. If it worked on spINI it should work on BethINI. If it doesn't, see if it is putting it's log files in your profile directory and pastebin it to me.

@Tech

Was SFO active in your load order? Or did you not click a preset? I have it built into the presets, so just open and close won't work.

I plan to add the INI parameters to the tooltips.

It didn't automatically detect my profiles. I had to navigate to my profile.

  • BethINI installed at: "D:\Modding\Programs\BethINI"
  • Skyrim installed at: "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim"
  • MO installed at: "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Mod Organizer"

Yes. SFO is active (STEP Extended). I was following your instructions to a tee so MO wasn't open. I clicked the "default" button followed by the "high" preset. After checking the changes in the high preset, I opened it back up and selected the "Ultra" preset. I still had to manually change the grass type to 7 as it stayed at 3 the entire time.

Also to note, you say there aren't any visible changes for the shadow blurring between setting 0 and 4. That might be true for the vanilla game (haven't tested it), but it's certainly not true for ENB users. There is a very visible difference with all setting for ENB users. You might want to address that somehow since it can be a bit misleading. I also though Skryim's default for this setting was 3, not 4? If it is 3, you might want to keep it that value since many ENB authors will design their shadows around the default values.

You're confusing shadow blurring and shadow filtering. Default blur is 5 and default filtering is 3. Neither is 4. I haven't seen any difference with any setting of shadow filtering between 0 and 4 in Skyrim, and believe that it cannot truly be changed in Skyrim, whereas in Oblivion I know it has a very significant effect. Shadow blurring, however, has a quite significant effect in Skyrim, and ENB is affected by its value, which it reacts differently according to the value you set it, which must be at least 1, but recommended is 3.

Ah, so I am. :coffee: No, shadow filter = no difference in Skyrim.

I haven't found any other issues that I can report at this time. It's window did loose focus once and was sent to the back behind an Explorer window I had open when I changed one of the settings, but I haven't been able to reproduce that since.

The ultra preset seems to run about the same as my custom tweaked INIs for my custom profile so that's good news. :^_^:

Sure, I'm working today so I'll get them over to you this evening when I'm home.

What's the main difference between the two presets? On the ultra preset, I still had to up the draw distance on the grass, and change the grass textures to 7 but I think that's all I changed from its default. The rest was about the same as my custom INIs. I did turn down the shadow resolution because 4K is nonsense for any setup, imo, when the shadows are going to be blurred anyway. Plus I'm running ELEP for detailed shadows and a few other select effects. I also turned down particles to 4500 because with Vivid Weathers it can be a bit taxing. Other than that I kept the ultra preset settings and still get 50-60fps in most cases. Turning on ELEP drops me down into the 40, though.

There are a bunch of things that are barely noticeable that I tuned down, such as decal draw distance, trees and objects loading from really far away. The point of Ultra was to turn everything up to the maximum noticeable value, whereas High is optimized more for actual gameplay. You could tweak some of the things on High to go a little higher at your own discretion, which is what all the choices are there for.
