paul666root Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I tried last night to download NMM and installed 10-15 mods to check SE.I was impressed with the performance and especially with loading times. Damn they are fast! BUT....God....I cannot stand NMM...I mean I just CANNOT!!! I feel like a dumb user who has no control on literally everything!! So I am thinking of switching to WB, although I know it has a learning curve. Never used WB before, except BP, ESMifying plugins, redating, etc...So I was wondering...can I have 2 versions of WB installed? One (306.xx) version for my regular Skyrim modding and the new one (307.26) for the Skyrim SE.Is this even feasible or they are conflicting fiels/folders and would need to swap files over again and again? I know that this was doable with MO but absolutely no idea with WB.i have both 307 and 306 versions of WB installed and they seem to work though when i run one of the other versions that i was having running before it keeps asking to back the settings for the other.
Pretendeavor Posted November 2, 2016 Author Posted November 2, 2016 Still using NMM here, it is.. okay.. if you keep a mental note (or just a notepad file) of overwrite order. If you uninstall a mod that used to overwrite another mod's file, I'm pretty sure the original files of that other mod are restored. But yea it's still annoying with more than half of the files being bsa's, load order influences what gets overwritten, you need dummy esps unless you extract bsa's manually with an external program etc...... I really can't work with WB either, I'm not sure why people seem to think it's so amazing. Think I'll choose to be handicapped right now and pray for a MO esque update for NMM.

STEP used WB in the past. It's a powerful manger, but the learning curve is higher and the manual work required will make you miss MO.

It is in my opinion a good and reliable mod manager. I don't think it supports all the installers that MO/NMM does which means you'll need to do some manual work when installing mods, like tech said. Other than that it can do almost everything that MO can. You can uninstall mods just like in MO. WB will add back all files from other mods that should be there. It does this directly in the data folder without using a virtual file system. This means you might save quite a lot of space on your hd , which is nice if you have Skyrim installed on an ssd. You can use NMM to download mods and keep track of updates and use WB to install mods. I'd choose WB any day over NMM and I consider it to be a contender even to MO due to its reliability. MO has an unorthodox way to sort bsa's and loose files. This makes it powerful if you know what you are doing since you have way more control over which files that overwrite other files. With WB, the plugin load order decides the install order of bsa's. Loose files overwrites bsa's. This is the way that Skyrim sorts files. It is not that complicated if you have some experience modding. I can imagine, it will be painful if you update mods often. Repackaging mods can be painful as well. I went with the other character overhaul because of it, haha. Also, ENB! I saw that the Somber 3 author is very active on those forums, makes me excited for new presets! Somber 3 is one of the best looking ENB presets ever made imo..
