pack A Real Explorer's Guide to Skyrim
junglejudas replied to CJ2311's topic in Step Skyrim LE Packs (retired)
(1) I'm guessing that Immersive College of Winterhold 2.5.3 isn't a [known] threat [yet]? (pack page says 2.5.2, but the only old version available is 2.4.1) (2) meaning (from Nexus page): ? -
Realistic Mushrooms appears to have ceased to exist. (no Nexus Skyrim mod with 'mushrooms' in the title matches, unless perhaps the author has changed their nym [again?]...)

DROPPED Super Realistic Ore Textures (by Kman420)

isn't the optional "Just the textures" appropriate for Recommendation? -
anyone holding their breath for mrLenski to relieve the need for TechAngel's fix?

DROPPED Skyrim Distant Detail (by Kazoomie - Dovahsbane)
junglejudas replied to MadWizard25's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
sorry if this is covering old/n00b ground, but i just failed to catch Neovalen via PM (not even sure whether that was more appropriate than simply posting out in the open) after searching in several forums for general and specific clues. haven't yet found a way to clarify this bit from Skyrim Revisited -> Distant Detail: does the Deletion need to be repeated (and all in one go, not re-running xEdit each time) for every instance of that Block? even those where 0000003C isn't in red (in this case, skyrim.esm's is ~purple and distant detail.esp's is ~yellow, all others are red)? or only under Hearthfires.esm? -
check the message that came right before yours: and 1.94 (the current non-Extended) might be okay by now. but i'm guessing the problem you had (i did it at first) is clicking on the main auto-download button - which defaults to Groovtama's XPMS Extended.

for all i know, my eyesight will have degraded too far for fiddling with textures to matter at all, by the time everything is perfectly clear and functioning as intended (or i just end up skipping DDSopt because the appeal of other mods outweighs my desire for enhanced visuals). but i appreciate your efforts; they will inevitably be assimilated into my understanding (or what passes for one) of the many processes being employed to elevate our Skyrim experiences.

nothing by that exact name, but ../soulcairn/sccrater1_m.dds is provided by unmanaged HR pack 2 others with 'sccrater' in name by Optimized HR2 Providing Mod: Unmanaged HiRes Pack 2

indeed, it's finally sinking in why DDSopt is not Core (and that using it at greater length beyond basic vanilla/DLC makes the larger difference). thank you for emphasizing the Conflicts tab. accordingly, all of the optimized textures for expansions are provided by a combination of unmanaged HR, optimized HR (seems to be the vast majority) and unofficial HR patch (very few) ... all of which have larger priority numbers ... so if i am beginning to wrap my mind aroud this, that translates to: "between unmanaged, optimized and unofficially-patched Hi-Res Texture Pack DLC, everything identified as optimized [d'guard+h'fires+d'born] textures will be ignored because all of that stuff's already been loaded". i had been presuming that DDSopt made improved versions of files with identical names, and expecting MO to overwrite based on load order alone. i attempted to duplicate the procedure laid out in the GamerPoet's tes5edit cleaning walkthrough; i'll assume that's what "in a separate mod" means. i'm trying to selectively ignore sentences like this (which when considered along with other sentences are threatening to do my head in) and focus on what i should be seeing when i look at the left pane (which seems like it shouldn't be able to leave any room for interpretation). are some of these simply overlooked in MO's Conflict determination? with [all items containing the label 'HR' or 'high res'] at lower pane positions/larger priority numbers than [all other DLC items] - a situation identical on the screenshot you provided (thank you again) and on my current left pane - my Conflicts seem to state that the optimized expansion textures are serving no purpose. i shall be looking forward to that with great optimism! thanks again.

much obliged! clearly i needed another nap at that point. -
DROPPED Ragdoll Paralysis (by silverfish)
junglejudas replied to keithinhanoi's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
i'm only seeing 'paralysis.esp', 'ragdollparalysis.pex' under \scripts or 'ragdollparalysis.psc' under \Source. hint plz? -
okay, still befuddled unfortunately: i've matched that order, but (a) i also have Cleaned entries for DLCs, each placed after unmanaged and before unofficial (b) optimized textures are still showing as redundant...
-
thanks again; i must be confusing my/others' alignments/interpretations of "above/below", "higher/lower" etc. and the reversible perspective of the left pane.
-
this is the closest thing i've found to a mention of what i'm currently wondering about. (not sure i've parsed "reubicate" accurately...) guessing there's no response because it's in the wrong thread? but hopefully i can engineer my question to at least prompt advice on where to relocate: (background) currently up to the unofficial High-Res patch portion of step 2.D, and with my current left pane arrangement: - update (clean) - unofficial skyrim patch - optimized standard vanilla textures - unmanaged dawnguard - cleaned dawnguard - unofficial dawnguard patch - optimized dawnguard vanilla textures - unmanaged hearthfires - cleaned hearthfires - unofficial hearthfires patch - optimized hearthfires vanilla textures - unmanaged dragonborn - cleaned dragonborn - optimized dragonborn vanilla textures - unmanaged hi-res packs etc. my optimized textures for the three expansions [DawnguardOpt etc.] have acquired the redundant 'white lightning' icon. this only seems to change (so that nothing on the list shows as redundant) if i place unofficial patches where i am told not to put them (both by the STEP guides and by MO warnings). what gives? (1) i have a sneaking suspicion it is too late for me to click 'backdate BSAs' (if i didn't already - sadly my wetware memory is that bad - or does 'backdate BSAs' need to be freshly clicked after any relevant rearrangement?) is this a problem [yet]? (2) is there not a screenshot or textfile sample of what the left pane list should look like (order-wise) at the end of, e.g., a Core installation? or just what's visible without scrolling by the end of 2.D? i've been trying to look under rocks and in nooks and crannies but haven't spotted something like this yet.
-
so i could set this to 2048, but none of [the 3 files placed in ../skyrim, as per ENBoost quickstart guide] is going to have any noticeable effect anyway (barring a RAM upgrade)? i assume the more in-depth, ENBseries adjustments would be more worthwhile (and correspondingly time-consuming)?

CTD and Performance patch ENBoost (by Boris Vorontsov)
junglejudas replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
idle curiosity: stumbled over this on the ENB forums. is that basically [parallel to, incompatible or largely/partially redundant with] graphics overhauls here and on the nexus? i don't know any mod/patch's features/fixes in serious detail yet, but i'm guessing some (if not all) of those listed for 'particle patch' overlap... -
to clarify, since i'm still rather ignorant of how memory works: "system RAM" is referring to the physical memory on board, and virtual is not to be included in this context? (i run 64-bit win7, have 8GB virtual but only 4GB physical, and my graphics card has 2G physical/2G virtual, so:) (1) "playing it safe", i assume i should keep this setting at 2048? alternatively, would virtual and physical be added together? it seemed too good to imagine that i could set this at 14336... speaking of which (regardless of my own limitations): (2) is the implied "set limit" of 6144 arbitrary, or does ENB (or something else) not actually support higher totals?
-
i was lost until i found this comment (thanks, darqnite!). in my case (current build = 1.7.1), '<data>' was already expanded and 'Data' was one branch deeper than described. perhaps the STEP Recommendations could be clearer on this point, as they instruct us to "right-click data" whereas they could say "right-click 'Data' (not '<data>')" or something like that...?

HRDLC_Clean-START says I'm missing files

can i start over with just the 'Vanilla Extracted' contents in Working, or would i have to go back to extracting each original .bsa? -
HRDLC_Clean-START says I'm missing files
junglejudas replied to Business's question in DDSopt Support
only textures. the top item under Ignore was checked, the other 3 were unchecked. whoa... hearthfires (under Vanilla Optimized) appears hugely inflated. might it help to reprocess a dlc folder rather than the parent Vanilla _____? (i'm guessing it wouldn't work because i don't know which textures of which sort are supposed to be in there and they aren't all to be processed within the same parameters...) also possibly odd: Vanilla Optimized/DragonbornOpt had the exactly correct number of files but one folder fewer than projected.
