I'd call it an interface mod as well, even though it's not the same as other interface mods that add or remove things from the immediately visible or most used portions UI. It does add to the UI, it's just hidden away in the MCM, which technically is a part of the UI. Just my 2 cents.

I'll post the saves tonight for you to look at. I'll also post my ini's and anything else you think might be relevant. EDIT: Just realised my ini's are shown in modwat.ch. Might be worthwhile setting up a modwat.ch account and uploading to make it easier to compare. My install was only done in the last 2 weeks or so, so I can't imagine there'd be too much difference. You might even be able to figure out what's missing using the missing mod error message when looking at the save in MO, but I get the feeling it's not a missing mod, but a mod that hasn't installed or downloaded correctly. EDIT: Do you want to also upload you savefile? Not sure if we can attach saves to posts, but if it doesn't let you, just change the file extension to .txt and it should work.

ACCEPTED Burn Freeze Shock Effects (by pauderek)
Xaviien replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I never really got it tested properly, I think. I kept spawning more guards for Alduin to fight, sometimes 100 at a time, and kind of lost sight of what I was actually trying to achieve. That said, I don't think I ever had any script issues, just major FPS drop from the hd fire in my face. I don't remember sorry, but I'm pretty sure I only installed loose versions where STEP suggested it. -
If you click the link in my sig that says Current Mods, you can see an almost full rundown of what I have installed. I tried to follow STEP Extended 2.2.9 to the letter, except in most cases I installed the higher quality textures when available. I have no lightin or ENB mods installed, but my pic was definitely taken much later in the afternoon, which means the shadows are very different. Did you tweak the ini for grass textures? It looks like you're missing some of the benefits of Skyrim Flora Overhaul. It also looks like the rocks are quite different, both in the foreground and background.

Yeah, my vote is for keeping the old version.

DROPPED Skyrim Weapon De-LARP-ification Project (by MadCat221)

1. Don't be scared to ask newbie questions. If you don't, you'll be a newb forever. 2. I'm sure you can delete that stuff, BUT, it's tiny, AND, you've already used the bandwidth to DL it. If it's really worth your time to search out and destroy all the unnecessary 100kb files, I think you should invest in some more HDD space... or some floppy disks, or something -
You're missing one big ass pile of rocks. I have no idea what you've done to make them disappear, but David Copperfield would be proud! Vanilla Extended Extended from almost the exact same position you're in

ACCEPTED RUSTIC POTIONS and POISONS (by Gamwich)
Xaviien replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Wow! I haven't used it yet, but this looks like THE mod I need to help test and compare these types of mods. Thank you so very much, from the bottom of my heart. My wife is also very excite. She loves decorating her house with carrots. F'n weirdo. -
That website was good for a laugh anyway. Check out the reviews. They actually have a 3/5 and a 1/5 review right on their front page. It says something for their honesty, but based on what those reviews say, and ONLY based on that, I would definitely not recommend it, not even to my mother in law, not even if I got a 75% commision.

ACCEPTED aMidianBorn Book of Silence (by CaBaL)
Xaviien replied to EisDrache's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
The fact that it says the bashed patch must be used WHEN installing the content addon might cause a little bit of confusion. It sounds almost like they need to be done at or around the same time. There might be a slightly better way to word it, but I can't think of it at the moment. Plus there's almost no way to avoid all the confusion people go through when first using the STEP guide, especially first time modders. There's just so much to take in, and so many horror stories of what could go wrong, it's REALLY easy to overthink things and confuse yourself. Then once everything comes together and just works, and after learning just a little bit more by asking questions, the whole guide (and the world in general) makes just a little bit more sense. -
I would say Normal translates fairly well to Standard. You can also tell by the fact that the guide shows there is a HQ option, meaning the baseline is not the highest quality option. I'll update the recommendation to say Standard to avoid the chance of confusion. Thanks for bringing this up.

DROPPED Enhanced Distant Terrain (by SparrowPrince)
Xaviien replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Would there be any way we could add an option on the first page of the FOMOD installer for "STEP recommended", which would install all options required by STEP, and nothing else? -
From the STEP Mandate: This is the best reason I can find for the baseline being fairly "middle of the road".Most of the mods give Skyrim a major facelift without degrading performance. Depending on your system you can easily get away with all the higher res options. You can also see the discussion thread for almost all the mods by clicking the W icon after the mod name, which will open the wiki page, then clicking the "forum" link near the top. Be warned, some of those threads are quite long, and don't always explain exactly why certain options are recommended.

ACCEPTED RUSTIC POTIONS and POISONS (by Gamwich)
Xaviien replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Yeah, I thought this would be ok, especially since I deleted all the NPCs that were around. I get the feeling I may have broken the save by deleting the guy that was sitting at the sitting at the table before I laid out the potions, but didn't save and load til after I had laid them all out. It seems to have reverted the pile on the floor and the lines on the table to where they were when I marked the NPC for deletion. I'll try to scope out a friendly author to snag a save game from. Thanks for the advice. -
1. Having MO etc outside the Skyrim directory just means you need to tell them you are trying to play/edit Skyrim I believe. Having them in the skyrim directory allows them to pick that up automagically. 2. Use the ini editor. To access all the options in the configurator you need to change from "basic" to "advanced" but you still can't delete items. I think. Definitely easier to just copy the new lines into the ini using the editor though. Be very careful not to duplicate anything, and the only spelling mistake should be in the word texure. 3. You are correct. MO makes a new ini for each profile, and your original skyrim directory remains untouched. The definitive answers to all your questions are actually all in the guide/s. Make sure to read carefully, and some instructions are on the "Detailed Instructions" pages.

Adding to S.T.E.P Core/Extended
Xaviien replied to uncleseano's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Are you actually having issues in-game though? I've never even looked at the papyrus log, but I read somewhere that it can throw out a lot of random error messages. I get the feeling some of those are being caused by Enhanced Blood Textures. When I walked through the Helgen exterior on my latest start, I kept getting ragdolled whenever the dragon landed near me. It was quite funny actually. I know I SHOULD look into why it's happening, but that seems like hard work, and it was more humorous than game breaking. -

Based on what I read in a thread by an author that is making some kind of megamod, having Sounds of Skyrim and Audio Overhaul Skyrim causes a lot of sounds to play at once. I don't know if that is unique to his project due to merging mods together, or if you might run into a similar issue. You do seem to have quite a few mods doing very similar things. Have you looked into any of the other mod guides, like GEMS? Or even the STEP Packs? Plenty of people have looked at a lot of mods and figured out which ones do what best, and which mods conflict with each other. When I first got Skyrim and looked into mods, GEMS caught my attention, but the first step in that guide is to install STEP, and I kinda got waylaid here hahaha Yes. If you follow the STEP guide, they should be in the order you mentioned. Basically, once it starts listing the mods, from section 2.C. Extenders, everything should be in the order listed in the STEP guide. There may be some variance in mine, as I got tricked by the scary MO warning about mod order: Once I realised we are meant to ignore that very clear warning, I had to go back and manually reorder my mods. Luckily I had taken a screenshot of the warning to post a bug report, so I could use that to figure out which mods had been moved. Fairly sure I got them all back to where they should be though. -
ACCEPTED RUSTIC POTIONS and POISONS (by Gamwich)
Xaviien replied to EssArrBee's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I had started doing a comparison for this mod, but after lining up some potions and saving my game: something seems to have broken in my save, and I now only have 1 potion on the table: I could do a comparison based on a stack of potions on the floor, if that would be helpful at all: Unless someone has a savegame laying around or knows a better way to line up potions for a comparo, it might be a week or so before I try this again... -
SKYRIMLE True Wolves Of Skyrim (by KrittaKitty and ShimoOkami)
Xaviien replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
That's pretty much what I figured. Thanks for the answer. I think it would look better with those parts, as well as the raggedy, fluffy look of the vanilla versions sticking out more, but with the colours and shapes added by True Wolves. If I had ANY experience with this type of thing, I would be tempted to ask KrittaKitty and ShimoOkami for permission to "fix" this mod. I don't though, so I won't. -

SKYRIMLE True Wolves Of Skyrim (by KrittaKitty and ShimoOkami)
Xaviien replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Well testing this mod is a right pain in the ass haha There are 3 steps in the installer, each containing 3 options as shown in brackets: Black wolf colour options (Standard Black, Dark Timber and Grey); Ice wolf colour options (Darker White, Grey and Pure White); and Red wolf colour options (Brown, Red, Timber).I have absolutely no idea how to spawn a red wolf. If anyone can tell me how, I'll be happy to update the comparison shots. My feeling is they are from another mod. I just spawned a standard Wolf and an Ice Wolf using "player.placeatme 23abe/23abf" Vanilla/Current STEP/True Wolves Meshes Only True Wolves. ALL installer option 1, option 2, option 3. Conclusions: Update 3/3/15: I no longer like this mod. Although fatter wolves are definitely more realistic, these just don't look great. I'm especially put off by the way the new mesh interferes with the vanilla neck hair. The colours also aren't great, I much prefer the look of current STEP. [spoiler=Prior conclusions]I think the meshes are great. As the author says, there is a LOT of game around, so Skyrim wolves would be well fed, as opposed to the skinny, mangy, ugly vanilla wolves. Only problem is the 4 lines of hair sticking up on the neck. It looks like part of the old mesh or something, I don't really know what's going on there, it may even be something I've done wrong (though I doubt it, this is a very easy mod to install and manipulate). The darker white and black options look silly, to me, but I have never seen a real wolf. The pure white still looks quite dirty, and is my pick for Ice Wolves. The Grey option for "Black" wolves is not that different from what we currently have, but seems to have more variations in the coat, eg almost black along the top, lighter towards the belly with brownish patches. This is my pick for "Black" Wolves. This is now a permanent inclusion in my game, despite the weird sideways mohawks. -
ACCEPTED High Quality Food and Ingredients (by Iraito)
Xaviien replied to stoppingby4now's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
My wife pointed out that the venison texture in the performance repack is broken as shown in the screenshot. Sadly, the author seems to have given up about 2 years ago, and dropped off the face of the earth. I installed the main file version instead, and she just merged the main file venison textures into the performance repack. -
The chimneys are MUCH taller. I'll see if I can get a comparison shot. (It will be my first.) EDIT: As you can see, the new chimneys are much taller, and far too square. Scarla had actually removed the old versions, but re-uploaded them by popular demand.
-
Old version is still up. There was no mention of dropping it in this thread and it is still tagged as Accepted, so I updated the wiki page to instruct people to download the old version. Definitely seems unintentional, but I'm sure Tech will be along to clear it up at some point.

Updated instructions to point at Old Version. Consensus seems to be that the new version is a downgrade.
