What's the Most Script Intensive Mods?
Greg replied to Aeradom's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Performance statistics for strings is not statistically significant because it's basically just an array of pointers to the memory containing the strings and pointer dereferencing is very fast. The strings are also interned, meaning only one copy of the string is stored in memory even if it's 50 in different mods or 50 different scripts. -
Sounds like a good idea to me. I vote yes

SKYRIMLE Mod Organizer messes up load order when switching profiles
Greg replied to Avastgard's question in Mod Organizer Support
I find separate instances to be cleaner and easier to maintain than profiles. With separate instances I don't have mods from Profile B cluttering up Profile A and I don't have to keep track of which patches/generated output mods go with which profile. There's also the issue that Mod Organizer unchecks BSAs in the archive tab when switching profiles and it can be a bit of a pain to remember which BSAs should be checked in each profile (although I'm now extracting BSAs so I don't use BSA management these days). -
If you are installing STEP 2.2.9.2, install the mods in exactly the order listed in the guide to obtain optimal placement for each mod.

Yeah, I use headphones while playing as well. If you get a chance and think about it, walk in the desert between Mixwater Mill, Kynesgrove, and Bonestrewn Crest (I think more toward the south near the falls if I remember correctly). Something in that area sound a lot like the earthquake sounds in Arkngthamz and I don't remember hearing that before.

I found this in the SRLE Extended: Legacy of the Dragonborn topic but I haven't worked out what it is yet. Ya gotta love all these TLAs. :O_o:

If two or more mods provides the same asset (say a mesh or a texture), the game uses the asset from the mod with the highest priority number. One possible solution is move the mod lower down the left pane, but then you may run into issues with the game using snow textures from Skyrim HD instead of from HQ Snow Texture so the easiest solution is try to put Skyrim HD in an optimal position in the left pane and then hide the few remaining assets we don't want to use.

I've been using this mod for a few weeks and I generally agree that it is a really good choice, although I have not done an extensive comparison with the other sounds currently in STEP. The one aspect I don't like is that some of the doors (notably the door entering Whiterun) seem to have excessive bass and I'm curious what others think about this one. The last time I was checked by an audiologist, I had fairly decent response in the low bass and high treble ranges and very weak response everywhere else in the middle so I'm curious if this one should be tweaked a bit or if I'm not hearing it correctly.

I see a few mods in here I hadn't seen before as well so I plan to use some of these in profile I'm currently setting up. Thanks for the guide, Hishy.

SKYRIMLE Mod Organizer messes up load order when switching profiles
Greg replied to Avastgard's question in Mod Organizer Support
I think that would be more of a question for Tannin so you might post a question to him on github: https://github.com/TanninOne/modorganizer/issues -
Should I wait for the Remastered edition?
Greg replied to Echo127's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I say get out of the conundrums and start playing! Skyrim Special Edition will be released on October 28 so that gives you two months to get a really good play through going to get out and have some fun with that shiny new gaming rig. -
Mod Organizer + SkyProc : 'Game Not Found' and Patcher Not Finding Mods
Greg replied to D3VNT's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
No, they don't conflict. I just meant that I have the path environment variable pointing to the x64 version intentionally for some side projects so I just need to find a way to get Mod Organizer to find the x86 version instead. It's not hard, so just thinking about a few different ways to do it. -
Mod Organizer + SkyProc : 'Game Not Found' and Patcher Not Finding Mods
Greg replied to D3VNT's question in Mod Organizer with STEP
Make sure you installed the the x86 version of the Java Runtime. The x64 version won't work and results in this behavior when run from Mod Organizer. Be sure to read the download page and installation instructions carefully so you don't get the sideloaded adware from Oracle. In fact, you just reminded me I'm about to run into this same issue because I had to install the x64 version of the Java SDK for a project I'm working on. This means I'll need to figure out a way around this when I get to the patches section of STEP 2.2.9.2 and need to run the DSR patcher. I might just create an mo.bat file that alters the path environment variable to point to the x86 version of the Java SDK. -
SKYRIMLE Mod Organizer messes up load order when switching profiles
Greg replied to Avastgard's question in Mod Organizer Support
Have you considered using multiple instances of Mod Organizer instead of multiple profiles? I do this by setting up say C:\Skyrim\MO_STEP with the STEP 2.2.9.2 guide. When finished, I copy MO_STEP to something like MO_STEP_Playground and I use the playground version to test new mods and such. An obvious disadvantage to this approach is that it takes up a lot of disk space because of the duplication of installed mods, but it allows me to keep everything completely segregated so I don't have to worry about updating mods or patches in one profile affecting another profile. -
I'm confused... the video is for Rustic Clothing but this is the Rustic Clutter topic?

I think this is the Nexus Client CLI that's in the ModOrganizer/NCC folder.

Broken Loadscreen NIF in Vivid Landscapes
Greg replied to Taverius's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports (retired)
My interpretation is that Arthmoor prefers to use NifScan because it reports potential issues without touching any of the NIFs. This seems to make perfect sense because I imagine someone with his skills would want to verify and fix any potential issues by hand rather than depending on a tool that may or may not work correctly. I can't say whether NifScan is any better or worse than NIF Healer in terms of false positives, though. A few of the comments seem to indicate NifScan catches some issues NIF Healer misses and vice versa. I also noticed a few people mentioned that NIF Healer can read in a perfectly valid NIF and output a corrupt NIF in certain circumstances, so I think this is a good argument against nilly-willy "healing" every NIF on your drive. -
Was the game working after you finished 2.H. Characters & Creatures and are you running Loot to sort the load order in the right pane before you run SKSE? I don't really see anything in 2.I. Clothing & Equipment that might cause this kind of issue. Assuming the game was working after 2.H and you are using Loot to sort the load order properly, you might uncheck all the mods from 2.I to verify the game still works. If it does, enable the mods in 2.I say five at a time and test until you find the culprit. You might also double check the SKSE executable settings, SKSE.ini and ENBLocal.ini to make sure these are all correct.

Very strange CTD on new game start with Skyrim Unbound
Greg replied to dunc001's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Does this mean it's working now without the fx files or did you have to add the fx files to get it to work? -
HTML a tag inside heading tag nor parsing correctly
Greg replied to Ganda's question in Wiki Support
The first one is based on your original HTML. I converted the anchor tag into a MediaWiki link: <h5 style="color:rgb(60,150,200); font-size:1.1em; font-weight:600; text-decoration:underline;">[http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48195 boopity]</h5>I changed padding to zero so the bottom border is directly underneath the text and adding padding-bottom:10px to effectively set a fake line height: ===== <span style="color: rgb(225,225,245); text-align: left; font-size: 1.5em; font-weight: 600; border-top: none; border-left: none; border-right: none; border-bottom: 3px solid #a7540b; padding-bottom: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px overflow: hidden;">[http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48195 boopity]</span> ===== No guarantees either of these work with Nexus, though. -
I usually have at least two and often more instances of Mod Organizer for Skyrim and it works well. I typically create a new instance of Mod Organizer in place of using multiple profiles since I think this is generally easier than switching profiles. The one caveat you might run into is that one instance of Mod Organizer will handle the Nexus "Download with Manager" links so you might keep this in mind. I generally download with the browser into to my own structured repository so I never really use the "Download with Manager" functionality anyway.

MO rewrites skyrim.ini when I launch SKSE
Greg replied to cptjimcarter's question in Mod Organizer Support
If you need to edit skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini in Mod Organizer, run Mod Organizer and click INI Editor from one of the toolbar icons at the top. These INI files are in the ModOrganizer/profiles/[profile] folder, where [profile] is the name of the profile you are currently using. -

Recreating Skyrim: By Michael of Gamerpoets
Greg replied to Darth_mathias's topic in Step Banter Inn
Huh... I was certain Michael had posted this video here but I can't find it. I must have found it in the watch list after watching one of his other how to videos. I do agree that it is a very interesting project and I look forward to seeing what everyone at GamerPoets comes up with.
