  1. Mods flagged as masters (typically mods with an esm extension, although they may have an esp extension like the Unofficial Skyrim patches) are always sorted at the top of the list above non-master mods. This is intentional behavior and I don't think you can change it.
  2. Can you post the entirety of the error text you are getting? Error code 1 doesn't really provide a lot of information since this is a generic error code.
  3. Verify you installed XPMS 1.94 (not Groovtama's XPMS Extended) with the STEP recommended instructions. Make sure you've installed Fore's New Idles (FNIS) properly and that you ran GenerateFNIS_for_Users to generate the animation files according to the STEP recommendations. Finally, if you install STEP Extended, verify you don't have Realistic Ragdolls and Force installed. Have you installed any additional mods beyond STEP Core or STEP Extended? EDIT: This may be unrelated, but you may want to verify you have enabled VSync in enblocal.ini. This ini file should be in the Skyrim folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim). [ENGINE] EnableVSync=true VSyncSkipNumFrames=0
  4. Have you verified the SKSE.ini and enblocal.ini memory settings are correct? Also, have you verified you aren't missing any masters and you use LOOT to sort the mods into proper load order?
  5. I also see a correlation with drops in CPU and GPU usage and VRAM usage. Look at 200, 330, and 365, and you'll see a cliff in VRAM usage that correlates to the FPS drop off. Leading up to these cliffs you'll see a significant drop off in CPU and GPU usage when the menu is open. It looks as if Skyrim is offloading a bunch of stuff in VRAM when you open the menu and then has to spend time bring it all back into VRAM when you close the menu. Have you verified the VRAM settings in enblocal.ini to make sure ReserveMemorySizeMb and VideoMemorySizeMb are set appropriately for your card? It almost looks as the VRAM is being capped at 3GB in the chart... although this may be a placebo (or my imagination).
  6. Well, for those of us with inquiring minds that need to know... the answer is pretty much as expected. I set iScreenShotIndex=2147483647 (0x7FFFFFFF), started Skyrim on the left monitor, and started pressing F12 while watching the screenshot folder on the right monitor. The screenshots are taken in this order: ScreenShot2147483647.bmp ScreenShot-2147483648.bmp ScreenShot-2147483647.bmp ScreenShot-2147483646.bmp ScreenShot-2147483645.bmp ... ScreenShot-2.bmp ScreenShot-1.bmp ScrenShot0.bmp ScreenShot1.bmp In other words, Skyrim is incrementing a signed integer by one so it rolls over into negative numbers as indicated by the minus sign. After it finally reaches -1, it rolls over to 0. So, yeah, I seriously doubt anyone would take 4,294,967,295 screenshots in BMP format.
  7. On a semi-related note, does anyone know the maximum value for iScreenShotIndex (in [Display] in SkyrimPrefs.ini) and what happens if this setting reaches the maximum value? Offhand, I think it should be a 32-bit signed integer and I'm curious if anyone knows whether it magically rolls over to 1, rolls over to negative values, or causes an integer overflow exception?
  8. Added this blurb for sScreenShot based on findings in the CTD When Pressing "Print Screen" to take screenshot. I think it's a bad idea that this defaults to saving screenshots in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim but this is the default. I think the specific cause of the CTD in this case is lack of write permissions.
  9. For all intents and purposes as far as the motherboard and operating system is concerned, an SSD is nothing more than a really fast hard drive. There are some differences obviously, but Windows 7 and later handle these differences automatically so you don't need to worry about it. The Samsung 850 Evo is an excellent choice and is one (if not the) fastest SSDs available at a reasonable price. If you motherboard supports SATA III, pick up a SATA III cable to go with it; otherwise, a standard SATA II cable is fine. EDIT: I almost forgot... if your case does not support 2.5-inch drives, pick up a 2.5 to 3.5-inch mounting kit to go with the SSD. See the "Frequently Bought Together" on the Amazon page for an example of the mounting kit ($6.99) and SATA III cable ($4.25).
  10. Everything in the ini files seems to be correct. When you use PrtScrn without any overriding settings, the screenshots are saved directly in the Skyrim directory (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Skyrim) and this can result in a lot of potential issues with permissions, security, etc. If you have a any screenshots in this folder already, move them all to another folder to get them out of Skyrim's executable folder. Check your Skyrim.ini and I recommend settings like this for the screenshots: [Display] bAlllowScreenshot=1 sScreenShotBaseName=C:\Users\Greg\Pictures\Skyrim\Screenshots\ScreenShot bAllowScreenshot just allows PtrScrn to take a screenshot so you likely don't need to worry about this one. sScreenShotBaseeName is used to override the default path and prefix used for the screenshots. In the setting above, I redirect the screen shots to my personal Pictures folder so I don't have to muck with the permissions in Program Files. If you set up an override path like this, make sure the entire path is correct and that all the folders already exist. The easiest way to to do this use to use Explorer to create the folders, then click the address bar, and copy the entire path into the clipboard. Finally, open Mod Organizer's INI Editor, and paste this path right after sScreenShotBaseName=. Note that normally when you press PrtScrn you'll see a message like "Saved ScreenShot2.bmp" If you set sScreenShotBaseName, you'll see "Saved C:\Users\Greg\Pictures\Skyrim\Screenshots\Screenshot2.bmp" (with the full path) instead of just the file name. In SkyrimPrefs.ini, check this setting: [Display] iScreenShotIndex=1 I don't know how Skyrim handles iScreenshotIndex when it reaches the "maximum", so you might consider resetting it back to 1 to see if this makes any difference. Finally, have you installed any third-party screen capture software recently that might be trying to take over when you press PrtScrn?
  11. Offhand, I think you may have to redo the /32bit+ switch. Just in case you need it, the instructions are here.
  12. Are you using F12 (Steam screenshot) or PrtScrn (Skyrim's screenshot)? Also, have you checked the memory settings in skse.ini and enblocal.ini to verify these are correct?
  13. Also note that in the recent updates the Scripts are no longer provided in the Scripts folder. You'll need to find Scripts.rar in the Data folder and extract it to the Scripts folder.
  14. External drives are nice for backups and documents, but USB drives aren't quite fast enough and have too much latency for gaming.
  15. Do you hear these sounds with a vanilla setup (without any other mods)? Double check your installation of Better Weapon Swing Sounds. You should have moved BWS.esp into Optional ESPS since it doesn't need the dummy plugin. Verify that "Have MO manage archives" is checked (in the Archives tab of the right pane) and that BWS.bsa is checked in the right pane. Also verify that all of the BSAs are checked in the Archives tab of the right pane.
  16. He says, "Ah! The Dragonstone of Bleak Falls Barrow! You have already found it! You are cut from a different cloth than the usual brutes the Jarl foists on me." Irileth then comes running in with news of the dragon and you're off... a babe in the woods equipped with a string tied to a stick they call a bow or an rock that couldn't cut hot butter they call a sword to fight a dragon. You mean when the guard says, "We're so dead!"? That part always makes me laugh for some reason.
  17. Did he install Mod Organizer fresh or overwrite on top of an existing install? I'm just wondering if there could possibly be some remnant left over from the old install that might be causing this. I just tried unsuccessfully to reproduce this with Mod Organizer 3.1.8 and both 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 versions of the unofficial patches.
  18. What do you mean by blacklisted?
  19. I can confirm... I had exactly this issue when using Mod Organizer 1.2.18. If you look closely at the output pane (the one on the bottom) while working with Mod Organizer, you'll see messages saying it's unable to parse Unofficial Skyrim Patch. The only way to fix it is to update to latest Mod Organizer 1.3.x version on Nexus. If he does a clean install of Mod Organizer, keep a good copy of the existing ModOrganizer.ini, along with download, profile, and mods folders. I initially did a clean install then copied the downloads, profiles, and mods folders back in. When I ran Mod Organizer, my profiles were all out of whack. I ran Beyond Compare on the old and new ModOrganizer.ini and found part of the mod setup in the bloody ini file so I had to merge to get Mod Organizer to behave correctly. If I remember correctly, this is selected_profile, mod_list_state, and plugin_list_state in [General]. EDIT: In fact, I recommend renaming the existing Mod Organizer folder to Mod Organizer.old and keeping it in pristine condition until the new Mod Organizer is setup and behaving correctly.
  20. You're right that the memory compatibility list from ASUS hasn't been updated in years, but Crucial.com does list this motherboard and shows it is compatible with 4GB DDR3 1866 (Crucial CT2594481) for $33.99 each from Crucial, $64.78 for a pair at Newegg, and $61.49 for a pair at Amazon. For comparison, 4GB DDR3 1600 (Crucial CT3583176) is $31.99 each from Crucial, $59.99 for pair from Newegg, and unavailable from Amazon. So, yeah, it's just about enough difference to get a small sandwich at Subway.
  21. If you're using Mod Organizer, you shouldn't have anything in the Skyrim data directory except the vanilla mods. Have you tried removing all the extraneous files in Skyrim\Data and trying again?
  22. Yeah, I have that enabled and it does help with the value per weight decision, but I still want the total weight column so I can easily figure out what's weighing me down when it isn't readily obvious without doing mental math gymnastics. This is mostly beneficial because I usually don't carry a lot of heavy items that I don't immediately need. I usually carry one bow, one light sword in case I get caught close up, one dagger, and the armor I'm wearing. I might pick up extra weapons and armor if they are valuable and can be cashed in. The bulk of my weight usually comes from the light items: food, ingredients, and misc items.
  23. Have you tried the solution outlined in Guide:Z-Fighting? The reason I ask is because I was noticing quite a bit of flicker (notably on the distant mountains walking into Whiterun from Riverwood) using SMAA and this knocked out quite a bit of it.
  24. I often wish SkyUI would add total weight (weight * quantity) that can be sorted to make it easier to figure out where the weight in my pack is really coming from. Looking at the weight column alone, it's readily obvious that a 20 pound axe worth 400 gold is taking up 20 pounds, but it's not quite so obvious that 156 quarter pounders worth 9 gold is taking up 39 pounds. I also tend to be a bit compulsive in attempting to keep the most value per weight, so a 20 pound axe worth 200 gold isn't nearly as worth being in my pack as a 5 pound dagger worth 200 gold. It would even help me figure out what I can get rid of after picking the flower that broke my back.
  25. This is funny because I have the DDR3 1866 version of the Crucial Ballistic Tactical. I'm not convince the speed difference is noticeable, but it was only a couple bucks more. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148560 Another nice thing about this specific memory is that it supports the XMP Profile, so it's a simple matter of flipping the BIOS to the XMP Profile to get all timings and voltage set correctly.
