  1. Mono: I am not placing you in any box or anything like that what so ever. If you got that impression I am sorry. I find people who want to think different than me quite impressive, since as you obviously noticed I am a bit more technical and empirically minded. However I do think that I am quite a bit more open minded than quite a few other people around the world. Also meta = pseudo in my vocabulary.. at least I use them interchangeably. If it is strictly semantically wrong then sorry... But I tend to do that sort of thing. I guess a different way to describe how I see things is that just about everything start as pseudo, meta whatever you want to call it science. I guess we can just go with crazy idea. However at some point someone figures out how to measure something new, and then it goes from being hypothetical interesting (crazy) ideas, into being science. Since you mention healing then that is something I have actually delved into for years. I know that is a topic which have been hotly debated for a long time now. I am sure you know that healers and their ideas have been the target for not being able to produce concrete evidence for a long time now. However now enough statistical data is starting to pile up and so far it seems to support at great deal of statements healers have come with for years. You do not have to go many years back to have just about every doctor dismiss the very idea that mood affected anything significant. Now it is shown that mood and general state of mind affect a great deal about the body and how it functions. If I might put it a bit on edge I guess I see it like this. There have still not been found any strict empirical evidence that says moon rock A works like this... but there is enough evidence to say that moon rock A will probably have a positive effect X % of the time. As to why it has this effect.. we will have to wait for more ideas and measurements. If I was just clearly as dismissive of everything as you make me sound, I would still be in the box of people who still outright just says "They are full of bollocks and they are all con men"... instead I am looking at what is said and then say... lets see if we can gather enough measurements to hopefully see if there is something here. And all this brings me back to my original statement and morale.. if it is there it can be measured... we just have to figure out how. I am not sure if there are fancy technical terms for my way of looking at things, but I know it is not strictly old school empiricism. If you know then please let me know... you are obviously more of a philosophy student than me! :)
  2. Mono: We long since surpassed the human ability to reliably see what it is we measure. So many things today are based on what devices tell us, and we then track that information back to something we can relate too. We can do this because every single time it is done it is the same response. So again if it is there it is measurable, but we have not found the correct device to do so with yet. This brings me back to the whole premise of engineering not able to keep up. We have great minds and can think up great things... however we have no way of knowing if they are true or false, since we have no way to measure them. Also I do not dismiss anything... I just expect that if someone has a great idea, that they have the ability to provide some tangible way to measure what they claim. Otherwise it is just a hypothesis. It would be amazing if some of the claims meta science people come with could be more readily reproduced... however the sad fact is that they almost never manage to figure out what actually cause the effect they see... and hence making the process of measuring it really rather hard. As I recall there was a story about some guy who once claimed he had made cold fusion in a cup..... turned out he was a con man trying to score some easy money. The idea was then dismissed for a great while.. then one found some deep sea creature which could actually create fusion like conditions to hunt with. It was not true cold fusion, but it sparked some interesting ideas on how to measure for people. As far as I know they still work on that, with the aim to create cold fusion in a cup. Just now with a bit more of an idea of how to go about it. Morale of the story.. something is meta science until you figure out how the heck it works.
  3. If it is there you can measure it. If you can measure it you can theorize it. If you can theorize it you can prove/disprove it. Not necessarily in that order. That is the real wonder of science imo. A lot of the problems with meta physics etc. is that there is no tangible way to measure the effects postulated. All of the great discoveries tend to follow in the wake of someone figuring out how to measure something new. A common problem these days is that there are actually more theories than there are measurements to back them up. This is part reason why the whole gravitational wave discovery was such a huge thing.... it eliminated quite a few alternative explanations from the equation... sry had to. Those measurements, as well as those of the higgs... and whatever else is going to pop up over the new couple of years is most likely going to have some profound implications over the next decade or so. Once someone figures out what the heck to use it for. Also now that one know what to look for, it will make it easier to build someone more elegant.... because frankly another huge issue now is that engineering just cant keep up. But that is another story entirely. There done with the pocket philosophy for now!
  4. Sparrow... you are dru... I mean crazy! Dont ever change! :D As for the question... ghosts... not so much. If there are effects like that, then I do not think it would have anything to do with what we think when we hear the word ghosts. As for aliens... I think it would be more amazing if we are alone than the opposite. If we are ever going to meet anyone else is a different story entirely. Relativity is a harsh mistress... both good and bad. Good because it prevents stuff from finding us, and bad because it prevents us from finding them.
  5. As I remember it this mod had some sort of issue with the effect when viewed at certain angles, or some such. Or perhaps it was just an incompatibility with the eye mod that went in STEP.... it has been quite a while since eyes where looked at last.... sry had to do it! :)
  6. Interesting. But one has to wonder if it will manage to get the community required to actually rival the other engines in the areas they reign in... documentation, tutorials, assets etc.
  7. It is only a modest increase in resolution, so I would doubt it would be a major issue. The problem is in fps first and then memory later. Ofc. it will depend a bit on which sort of post processing you are doing etc. The more of that you do, the more it will matter. But the game on its own would not be a cause for concern.
  8. The best thing about all those details are that you can then make good guesses if you want to alter something!
  9. As long as you only install the CoT weather parts, and leave the rest out you can use it directly with extended, if your presets are locked to those. Alternatively find presets that support vanilla weathers.
  10. Yeah I played around with that one too, but no cigar sadly. And it is as jawz says.. the way lights function is a base functionality, cant just be added in. Just like you can do lots of awesome stuff in 3dsmax.. but it will never get into the game because the game does not support all the texture layers. The solution I used in my blackreach mod when I wanted it... was a less than elegant placement of meshes to create the required shadows on the existing shadowcasters... mainly just make sure they did not have the option to glow upward. I guess it would be simple enough to create such mesh with a texture that is transparent, but obstruct the "raytracing" (I forgot how the game calculates shadows).
  11. A bit offtopic I guess, but the last I did any serious amount of testing the only real reason not to use coc is because all quest flags etc. are not set properly... hence some things will be a bit weird. However if you set those manually the game cannot tell the difference between running the sequence or doing coc. At least to my knowledge. If there was ever any issues in my testing the good ol, rest a month in a small interior space seemed to work nicely to make sure the scripts etc. had started working properly. Ofc. just doing coc, and expecting everything to work is hoping for too much.
  12. You can add sharpening shaders, and DoF or any combination thereoff which will help fight aliasing by partly bluring out the pixels and then resharpen them again. Done right it can help under some circumstances. Edge AA is essentially just edge detection and blur combined. Which is more or less the same idea. However due to it being applied in a different way it does not blur the entire image as much. Also most DoF´s are meant to be for photoshoting only, and if you notice it too much it is just annoying. The best DoF´s are those that are subtle, and that goes for any games. The one I made for skylight ENB is rather unique in this way... also I only really little over half the screen instead of the whole thing, so you almost never notice it on the close objects. While it still helps with Z-fighting.. until you focus on that distance anyways.
  13. One question jawz. Do you intend to include light shafts as "fixes"? or do you think those to cosmetic ? In my opinion then that particular light source is just not used enough even though there are many locations where the directional light bulbs would be the superior option. Ofc. since (as I recall) they are shadow casters by default then their use has to be very limited, and they tend to conflict with quite a few layouts. Anyways, before I digress I just want to know about if you already have a plan for how far "fixes" are going to be a thing. Overall for a project this size I would think it would be paramount to get every single location marked down with a status to it, then have it so that people can edit that status as they finish up a location. Also add a flag for "need input" so that JawZ can take a look and take a sort of administrative decision. I do not know if either the wiki or this forum can support that in a meaninful way. The only way I can think of of the top my of head is a series of threads for each area with all sub locations inside of it.
  14. Downsampling have always been an option, you just needed to unlock it in your drivers. Also it would void warrenties on monitors... however it almost never failed. If it failed it was due to bad monitors to begin with... at least to my knowlegde. And downsampling is the superior way... more raw pixels is just the best solution. Other than that then the software based solutions, FXAA, SMAA, edge AA etc. are all the prefered options, they can stack, and they cost far far less than the hardware based MSAA options. In general if you go for MSAA, then you might as well downsample and apply a cheap software solution on top to take care of the last bits.
  15. Sounds like a valuable and neat set of tools, and I do like the overall idea. ELE have since its original been one of the most required interior mods around. Yes you lost a bit of diversity, but you gained so much more. And after my experiments in blackreach, I am sure one could add in a bit more diversity to image spaces etc, and still make sure that ENB presets would be largely supported. I always felt sad that RS never got around as much as the other lighting mods, and it would make me happy to help make sure it finally got to a finished state. Also on the topic of legendary, then I would say that is all that is required. If people still have not bought the legendary version on a 75% sale by now then they should not expect to be able to get all of the goodies that the modding community can offer. Looking forward to seeing what you got planned in more detail to see where I can (hopefully) be useful.
  16. I would have time this weekend to look over your ideas and see if I can contribute anything. I would also not mind looking at your special presets etc! Would also allow me to test out this new fancy 980ti I got... Perhaps I can even go above 40 FPS now! :o
  17. Hmmm you really tempt me now JawZ! :) I do kinda want to get back on the horse, and it would be awesome to work with you! You know me, I love lighting and colors and all that jazz... it is one of the main attractions for me. I also do have the mesh abilities... however much. It is most likely going to involve a lot of complaints about the nif format and how I wish it would burn etc. (did I mention I really do not like the nif format at all?) So overall if you got a plan, I would not mind providing some at times decent banter, and create some pretty locations.
  18. Looks about right to me. If you want other colors, you kinda need textures that have a different base color. ENB only takes what you have and build upon that. Either that or manually adjust the overall color balance. I know that is "fairly" simple to do with the built in controls in vividian. As for the loading times then that is fairly normal. It should however go away as you play since then everything should be commited to memory. ENB effects does take up more memory to use so that would most likely be the reason. Not sure why projectENB would have any windows 10 issues... That would most likely only be because is is based on older ENB binaries (at least it was the last time I checked) and those might conflict. As for how bright it looks... then that entirely depends on the weather in question and the time of day. Also where you look. I would suggest they you try to travel around a bit using either the console or fast travel to get a better overall feel of the entire thing. Also you can try to increase the time speed so you get to see more variation. Hope that helps a little bit.
  19. Well it would sorta make sense for them to go that route. After all I can imagine that working on more or less the same engine, and same universe, and setting etc. gets a bit tiring. Good idea to release tools to make the game have even more longevity, while they work on their next project.
  20. It sound quite interresting, and something nice can surely be made from it... sadly I just do not have the time to try it. And I know if I do all my last spare time goes down the drain! :D
  21. Damn you neo.. I am already packed enough with stuff to try out already! :)
  22. Boris does tend to try to approximate his functions to what is realistic... at least so he says on several occassions. The materials in skyrim are all a bit wonky due to how the mesh format is setup... the speculars are just weird in most cases, since they where not really made with ENB in mind, and it shows on several of them. I forgot the main reason why the shimmering appears. Something to do with how they implemented the camera relative to the rest of the matrices used... if I recall correctly. Anyways, yeah I guess one reason why many people alter the values to extremes is because it is more or less one of the only ways to control shadow intensity. That and perhaps they later mess with the skylighting values as well and forget them.
  23. Good to hear that you sorted it out. And yes AO is a rather nasty beast to tame. Perhaps you are using a preset that have high contrast, hence the author had to use rather extreme values for the AO to even be noticeable. It is seen before. Glad that you found some values you enjoy and hopefully have a nicer looking game for it!
  24. Since you are adding more post processing, you will always expect a drop in performance when you enable ENB. It is on by default once you start up the game. The visuals you describe are normal. Since there is new post processing in play, and some of the effects are dynamic in nature you can expect to see some blur and tone change as the effects settle in. Hope that helps.
  25. Just got my 980TI (EVGA superclocked fancy cooled version).... which I just bought on impulse because I kinda suspected my old gtx660 was dying slowly but surely. Works wonders! Now I can once again play games at higher than 30FPS at 1440p! Hurray! Just had to get used to the fact that the fans do not start until it hits 60C! Which actually takes some effort! Damn this new modern tech
