According to this post, while the Radeon card is 5-10% faster overall, the Nvidia card provides more overall features - in fact, enough that it allows for smoother gameplay. I was a little unsure now when I looked at the mentioned Radeon card directly, but now, I am 100% sure that I'll be getting the 660 3gb model, as Ayien originally recommended. EDIT: Not arguing with Besidilo anymore on this - decision is set. This thread also provides evidence to back up my decision. I will respond to any other posts, however.

Right... I play at 1440x900 anyway, so, for me, I can run about all games with maxed out settings easilly with the 660GTX. I'm really not convinced that I should get the 7870 when the 660, for me, is the best mix between cost and performance. Don't want to break my bank... Also, being able to use the GPU for more distributed computing projects AND PhysX, which can come in handy in quite a few games, adds a seal to the deal.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me it seems that in a comparision between the 660 and the Radeon 7870 (which is about the same price), in most cases the 660 matches or even beats the Radeon by a few frames despite having a smaller memory bus than the Radeon. Doesn't seem like to me that the Radeon is worth it when you have the 660. However, the smaller memory bus does limit AF/AA, but I can compensate for that.

A framework by NVIDIA for using the GPU for things other than graphics. AMD cards can do it too, but more distributed computing projects use CUDA than AMD OpenCL. OT: Anyone for a STEP team on BOINC?
-
Well, I've used AMD for a while for the same reason as DYEMB: it's cheaper. I use them for processors, and I used them for GPUs. But, with major price drops on the 660GTX, better support for ENB and Skyrim, my pretty small amount of VRAM, and CUDA (which is important for me as a supporter of distrubited computing), I'm going to make the switch to Nvidia. PhysX is a nice bonus - in fact, I'm getting Metro automatically by getting the new graphics card. So, it should all work out. And I don't have to worry as much about getting over the VRAM cap...
-
Right. So, right now, it looks like getting the GTX 660 is the best option. I found a factory overclocked version of the card that, after the rebate price, costs about the same as the non-OC'd version. And since EVGA has reliable support and good cooling - I'd go for that model. I'll see if I can put up the Radeon (from Sapphire, no less) on Ebay or Cragslist and see what happens.
-
*laughs* The Nexus 7 wasn't for gaming, it was more for reading books. Of course, I could just actually read physical books - which gives more reason to get the graphics card. And if I want my fix of Android - I could just use my phone.
-
You know what, I'm actually considering upgrading to a 660 GTX soon myself (thanks to Aiyen for the recommendation). Specifiaclly, a EVGA model that has 3 GB VRAM. The only thing I'm debaiting myself is if I should get that or get the Nexus 7 (or similiar), which is simillary priced. Any opinions on the matter?

STEP Program plus other mods
WilliamImm replied to ssconvert's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Apparently, you no longer need to use Enhanced Projectile Soul Trap with Mighty Magick unless you are using ASG (in which case, you can use that). UFO I've heard messes with vanilla scripts and can cause problems if you try to uninstall it. I'd recommend Extensible Follower Framework instead, it's as in-depth a overhaul of the follower system and it doesn't mess with vanilla follower scripts. ERSO I've never used - but if there are any conflicts with my mods, I'd like to know. -

SKYRIMLE bookshelves script SKSE (by McGuffin)
WilliamImm replied to rootsrat's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
It's not mentioned in this thread, so I assume it's not included in the USKP. -
Seems like SkyUi's favorite menu is like Catagorized Favorite Menu on crack - and it doesn't require any special configuation files to be installed. Anyway, that's a bit off-topic.

SKYRIMLE First-Person Messages (by ashiraniir)
WilliamImm replied to BahamutZ's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Now that I think about it, having the game tell me messages in third person, while it isn't realistic, it's not immersion breaking. However, changing the messages to first person is going to cause a very important problem - that is, they don't always fit the character you want to play. If I want to RP my Skyrim experience, I want to be my character as much as possible, and I don't see a Orc barbarian thinking "I can't travel now, I'm in combat!". There's a reason why games use third person messages, and there's a reason why I'm not using this mod. Can you guess what they are? -
